When my son died in 2017 was the worst. Fortunately I figured out I needed to remember everything during that time. I just no longer run to it when presented with a challenge. I suppose……. Taylor writes ALL of her lyrics/songs. The guy on the piano, a producer is Jack Antanoff, on guitar is also producer Aaron Dessner, both award winning. Taylor is the most Brilliant songwriter, without question. She has said herself, I’m a songwriter first, who sings her own songs.

One of my favourites ❤ 1. This is Jack Antonoff - producer, they work together for years and are great friends,, he also work with Lana Del Rey 2. Track 5 in all her albums is the song that feels more personal to her, more vulnerable 3. This song can be taken as a betrayal by a friend, going through a divorce, literally taken you're dead and the person who killed you is at your wake, but Taylor's reasons for writing come from very deep betrayal by a father figure in her life Scott Borscheta - the owner of her previous label who was with her from the very first album when she was 15-16 years old. He owned her first 6 albums and was planning to sell the company and she knew and wanted to buy her masters but he wanted to sign another contract - for every new album she could buy one old one and she refused and sign with new label but the masters from now on will be hers. Then the biggest betrayal was when he sold the company to Scooter Braun - a man who hates her and through out the years they had feud, so now this enemy of hers "owned" her and if she wanted her music back she had to sign NDA to never speak badly about him ever again - of course she refused. The end of the story, how she won: she decided to re-record all of her past six albums again and now they even sold more then before and even films, radios etc. are using her new masters so basically the old ones are worthless. Until now she has re-recorded 4 albums (while releasing 2 new ones and touring) and we're waiting on the last two - Reputation and Debut. That's why you can see on some songs there is "Taylor's version" her re-records and also she puts as a treats for the fans some never heard before songs which didn't make the final cut on the albums One thing about Taylor - she's very protective of her song writing and melodies👍 Another suggestions: 1. Seven ( about childhood friend who at the time she hadn't realized that it's from an abusive home and just wnated to move together so she can stop crying) 2. Cardigan - there is very beautiful music video 3. The Lakes 4. All too well - (10 minute version) - it's very old song but for her age of 21 I think the writing is amazing 5.Ivy - secret relationship/ cheating 6. Cowboy like me - one of my all time favourites ❤ 7. Dancing with our hands tied - it's more upbeat, beautiful melody 8. Would've, could've, should've - it's from the perspective of 32 years old Taylor when she was 19 and dated a 32 year old and still regrets it to this day😢 9. Exile feat. Bon Iver - immaculate song, also there is version of it in the Long Pond Sessions

Great reaction - I love watching new Swifties come into being. Everything from Folklore and the stripped down Long Pond Studio Sessions performances is beautiful, but My Tears Ricochet is definitely my personal favorite. It was inspired by the debacle over Taylor’s masters being sold to Scooter Braun and the dissolution of her relationship with Big Machine Records, the label she basically grew up working with. The line “I can go anywhere I want - anywhere I want, just not home” is one of the song’s many evocative lyrics, because not only was Big Machine her home from the time she was a teenager, the masters debacle was essentially about her life’s work up until 2019 being stolen from her. She’d apparently been clear about how much she wanted to buy them from Scott Borchetta for years, but he chose to sell them to someone who had reportedly bullied Taylor ruthlessly. As an artist you’d probably love her interview with Zane Lowe about the follow-up to Folklore, Evermore - and their conversation about the masters debacle. She spoke in that interview about the emotional impact of separating an artist from their art. The Tortured Poets Department Anthology is my favorite album at this point, but Folklore and The Long Pond Sessions are just phenomenal works. You should definitely check out “Exile”, her first collaboration with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver). But I’m guessing you might really appreciate everything on Folklore, Evermore and TTPD (especially the Anthology) - just for a start. Red (TV), Reputation and Midnights should probably be high on your Swift syllabus as well.

Love a sad song? Check out "loml" (that's L-O-M-L) from the recent album "The Tortured Poets Department" I think it's the saddest song I've ever heard, and it's absolutely gorgeous. The gentleman in the leather jacket is Jack Antonoff. He has been producing and co-writing with Taylor for several albums now. He is also the founder of the band "Bleachers." The other gentleman with the longer hair is Aaron Dessner. This is the first album on which he and Taylor collaborated, but he has continued to produce and co-write with her since. He is also in the band "The National." Taylor does not mess around with her lyrics. We'll never truly know the full meaning, but she makes it so that you can really interpret it in a way that makes it relatable to just about everyone. Her pen game is STRONG. Amazing wordplay, unmatched use of simile and metaphor. She truly is a poet.

Taylor is a multi instrumentalists who writes all her own songs (either alone or with co-writers) and directs her own videos. She's worked so hard on her voice, it's unrecognisable from where she started and she's one of the few who sounds better live. As you hear more you'll realise she also a multi genre artist. Check out Intro/Ready for it and Don't Blame Me live from the Reputation Tour. For more folk/heartbreak listen to Exile. For her country storytelling I love No Body No Crime, but really if I list the TS songs I can't live without it would be way over 100 long! Enjoy the rabbit hole!

You are 100% the type of person that can see past all the haters opinions and recognise the artist that she is. Your comment of some songs being instantly familiar without having been heard before was wonderful. I can tell you're a writer just from the way that you speak. If you like sad songs, I'd recommend: LOML from The Tortured Poets Department, This Is Me Trying from Folklore, Marjorie from Evermore (preferably the lyric video featuring Super 8 film footage of her Grandmother) and Bigger Than The Whole Sky from Midnights. This reaction earned you a sub btw :)

It's a beautiful song and she performs it so beautifully here.Glad you are doing the long pond sessions they are magical.Along with Jack A there's Aaron Dessner from the National.,who she works with a lot. Always think theses sessions show just how good a singer she is,and how much emotion she puts in .Oh boy are you in for a treat with Taylor,l think lyrically she's unsurpassed. The song is about her ex manager who sold her music from under her, hence the re recording of her old music. Her sigh at the end of the song breaks me, heartbreaking.

That sigh reminds me of something similar Rhianna did at the end of a performance of Love On The Brain, at the VMA's, I think. I'll link it at the end of this comment. Different situation/feeling of course, But a genuine release of emotion. To me it's a "wow" like she can't quite believe the power of the wave she rode through that performance. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iG1lxsN-krjFaNY.htmlsi=PAlqnzdI4VaxrOb5

This song is very personal to her....She loved like a favorite uncle, Scott Borchetta of Big Machine Records...then he stabbed her in the back by selling her music to Scooter Braun without giving her a chance to buy her own music. As you delve into Taylor's music, I think you will discover she is a generational talent...one of the, if not THE, best songwriter/storyteller/singers in the business.

Most of her songs are autobiographical, life’s lessons and experiences. Thats what makes her relatable to her audience , it touches their hearts and often describes something that they also have experienced at some point in their lives. Maybe best song till the next album. There are so many amazing songs. Thanks Izzy!

I think you’d really appreciate This Is Me Trying from the long pond sessions…hearing Taylor’s discussion before the song is quite emotional. She was less open back then about how she relates to the perspectives in the song, but she’s discussed suicidal ideation & coping with alcohol even more since then. These are topics she explores in her art, but *understandably* doesn’t really want to be a public discussion (esp in the media) when it comes to her career

All of the Long Pond Sessions are great. Listen to So, Long London. It is off of her new album. It is a track 5. All of Taylor's track 5's are the most emotional/vulnerable/personnel songs. This one is about her and her longtime boyfriends breakup. He lived in London. Taylor loves the place London. She has a love song called London Boy about this person. So it is bye to the person and place. All Too Well (Taylor's Version 10 minutes) lyric video has some fantastic lyrics. I think you will love Carolina. It is from the book/movie Where the Crawdads Sing. Taylor read the book several years before talk of it being turned into a movie. She loved the book and when she found out it was going to be turned into a movie she wrote a song for it. The book is set in the 50's so she only used instruments that were made from then or before. She sent it to the producer and director with a note telling them how much she loved the book and got excited when she heard it was being made into a movie. It inspired her to write the song. She hoped they would like it and use it somewhere in the movie. The producer and director said they both burst into tears when they listened to the song. And that a more perfect one could not have been made. Of course it was used. Listen to the 4:29 minute video.

The thing about Taylor is that she makes music for every taste whether you love fun, catchy pop songs; heartbreaking ballads; deep, introspective indie songs; or even youthful country songs. Her storytelling and lyricism has improved with maturity, but she's had those from the time she was a teenager. In my opinion, she has several songs in contention for the best written lyrics. I would check out All Too Well, the 10 minute version which is also a short film music video, Tolerate It from the Eras Tour, Illicit Affairs from the Eras Tour, and from her new album The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, How did it End, loml, and I could just keep going with songs from each album. Love seeing you're journey here.

Love your reactions! This song is about her music. When her first 6 studio albums were sold without her knowledge and to someone she did not want them sold to. Her music, her words, her art. The lyric, “when you can’t sleep at night, you hear my stolen lullabies” is powerful. She has fought for the right to regain the rights to her words by recording those same albums, and in doing so has also fought for the rights of other artists to do the same. Only one of the many reasons her fans respect her on a level I have never seen with another artist. The Long Pond Sessions are, as you said, magical. The lyrics she weaves together are a tapestry of truth, pain, and damn good storytelling. Happy listening!

The guy is Jack Antonoff he has a band called the Bleachers, and he works with Taylor and other stars, the other guy is Aaron Dessner he is in a band called The National, he doesn't sing, but he composes music, which Taylor has used for some of her songs, he also is involved in production. After a while, most Swifties can tell who worked on which song. The jewels she gave Scott Borchetta of Big Machine Records were the albums that went gold, platinum, and diamond, the stolen lullabies are of course her albums (6 of them). Scott refused to sell to her, but instead, he offered her that for every new album she would get one old one back, she walked when her contract was up, she didn't have it in her to go with grace. Taylor helped build his label, he was just starting out as was she. So, he sold to the one person he knew she hated. Great reaction, yes this is one of her best Quill pen songs. She refers to her songs in what kind of pens she would use for different types of songs, she also keeps a notebook of words she wants to use in her songs. And boy has she been using them, the inside joke is that you need a starter kit for folklore and evermore, it's a dictionary. But she has been upping her vocabulary for her last 2 albums, well the last one was a double album so 3 albums. Folklore has a bonus track called "the lakes" I think you would love it. Good luck with your song.

Oh seeing you catch all those little moments that are so delectable is fantastic! She has great melodies and superb lyrics that describe so much, and yet so common so popular that everyone can understand. To me the coolest singers are those who master their own instrument, it doesn't have to be the best voice, its how you use it, and she has worked on it every single step of the way, she just gets better. The tightrope she manages to pull this all of is unbelievable: write good music, interesting but that radio plays, be pretty but relatable, give us content but fight people invading your privacy, be generous but be business savvy... etc. You should listen to the album version of this song too, the instrumentation and production give the emotion even more body and ambiance. Honestly cant wait for more of these reactions!!

Taylor has dipped into so many genres that it's incredible. Its frustrating that some only see her as this bubblegum pop princess but that is what happens when you start your career at 16 I guess. You can tell by the look on her face here that she really still feels this song. Im sure people have mentioned in comments what exactly this song is about... contrary to what some might believe, it's not about a lost lover. But "stolen lullabies" is a giveaway that it was about her stolen music. Folklore and Evermore would be the albums for you.

I have always said that the greatest books, movies, songs are those that make you feel something whether you laugh out loud, cry, feel scared anger or it helps you heal! Taylor is a masterclass in this which is why she has so many people follow her and love her because she is so down to earth and she writes songs that make us feel and that is the greatest thing an artist can do!

The guy in the cool jacket is Jack Antanoff who has produced a lot of her recent music. He's won a Grammy for producer of the year several times, but he's also her very close friend. In addition, Jack is the lead singer of the band Bleachers. Lana Del Ray is also a close friend of hers. Not surprising that they have some similarities. Yes, there is a lot more stuff like this in her catalogue, particularly in the past few years when she's embraced a more Indie vibe, but the good stuff is always there, right from the beginning.

Excited for you to hear some of the songs she wrote when she was in her teens/early 20s as well. She’s been a gifted storyteller since youth. All too Well 10 minute- I’d check out the official lyric first, then the Short Film. (We Swifties will watch both! 😊) Dear John, Holy Ground (BBC1 live version), Love Story- live 1989 is a great version, but different than the original country version. Both are great.
