@marley cymón I'm not a "hater"...there are several songs on that album I absolutely adore. My least favorite Taylor album is still a good album.

She left out the sickest part of Kanye's abuse. He made a fantasy revenge sex video of her because she said she never agreed to being called a bitch in his song, and because she said that he and Kim recorded a phone conversation that Kim edited in their favor pretending that she had heard that lyric and approved it (an unknown person later released the entire unedited recording proving taylor was telling the truth).He had a realistic (sex) doll made specifically for his Famous video, where he depicted her 'naked' and sleeping in bed with him. There are behind the scenes of Kanye, Kim (who was the victim of revenge porn herself), and good 'ol Scooter laughing and playing with their Taylor doll.again, he had a life sized, realistic doll depicting down to her freckles what they imagined her naked body would look like and then filmed it for the entire world to look at. It doesn't matter if you like someone as a person, or if you enjoy their music. That's sick.

Lover is so under-appreciated. It’s a masterpiece, its momentum was stolen by the pandemic. It has always been a great album, and now because of the Eras Tour finally people start realising this.

The biggest problem was the singles, especially the first two. People REALLY didn't like them and it damaged the album's reception. It was also a very weird choice to not have released Cruel Summer as a single, it seemed to be an obvious choice.

I love Lovers as well. That summer I was jamming out to "you need to calm down" and the acoustic version of her song "lover" is just beautiful. I think what she meant when she said she was going to make a better album wasn't that the songs we're going to be better than the ones on reputation. I think that she wanted to create an album that was something that the general audience might accept more. She even used it to send out a positive message and to reveal who she really was as a person. Like it was part of this mass voting registration movement as well. It's like she used it to fight the villains. 😊

reputation was nominated for a grammy but wasn't in a main category, and because reputation was her comeback after all the 2016 drama, she really wanted it to be a success at the grammys too, she definitely felt that the industry still hated her

as a swiftie watching that documentary was really hard for me. She went through so much shit and she did absolutely nothing. 2016 was really rough for us swifties and her coming back from that will always be iconic and groudbreaking. Her talking about her ed and sa case always hurts each time I watch it bc it goes to show that people don't really care about what you are going though, they will just make stuff up about you like on magazines and put it out there not knowing what that person is going through. This documentary talks about a lot and you really get a good perspective into taylors life a little bit.

Everyone has their own opinions on preference but lover missed its day for a lot of reasons. 1. Ppl didn't like her getting political 2. Covid made this the only album that didn't tour post debut. The tour always pumps streams Tbh I think a lot of ppl just nvr got past the singles because of the above.

Taylor Swift will never ever stop writing and performing her music, it is like breathing to her.❤ The reason for the eras tour was because she had 4 albums released since the last tour and since she is re-recording her old music and bringing attention to that, and at the same time celebrating her prevoius work. Brilliant marketing strategy! Thank you for reacting to this documentary🥰

*Just to note.* when she is talking about the groping case and she mentions what the "lawyer" said "Why didn't you move further away?" if you actually look at the picture you can see that THERE IS a distance between him and her, so the PICTURE captures the moment HIS hand was on her A$$ and her MOVING AWAY from him towards the other woman (who happened to be HIS girlfriend) had this been a video instead of a picture we might have seen her moving away. Also in my mind, the timing of HIM suing her is iffy, it was right around the *hate train* had started (I know the incident was in 2012/2013 and the case went to court in 2017 so you draw your own conclusions) and I swear I think HE saw an opportunity here, "everyone HATES her now so if I sue her it will add to the hate and I have a good chance to win the case and get loads of money off of her" (could I be wrong? maybe but, that is how it felt and still feels)

Nathan talking about Taylor taking time off and gathering new stories and coming back with deeper, richer stories…you’re not wrong. Thats what we got out of lockdown and her forced slowdown…evermore/folklore.

In reference to the Kanye thing, I just wanted to mention, Beyoncé gave Taylor back her moment at the next award show, I don’t remember if it was a VMA show or another. But she brought Taylor on stage so she could have her moment that Kayne took from her.

Yeah I believe it was actually later that same night I when Beyonce won what might have been the final award given out and she immediately asked Taylor to come out. It was truly a classy thing to do and she got to give a full speech but it's easty to see how the Kanye moment could effect her. This is such a brilliant doc.

I feel very sorry for whoever thinks an album that has iconic songs like "Death by a Thousand Cuts" (the bridge of this song alone is a masterpiece), "Daylight", "Cornelia Street", "Cruel Summer" is a bad Taylor album. There is no such thing as a bad Taylor album. Period.

Sorry to disappoint all of you Lover stans but Lover is her worst album. It has no specificity, sonic cohesivity and even the top class songwriting excluding a few songs. All of her other albums have a certain niche aspect about them. On Lover, there are so many weird songs. IFTYE being the album opener is so weird as it still drags the baggage of the past and prevents her from starting a new chapter in her life. Also, the song's production is so childish. The Archer is average, it is really overhyped but as a song about anxiety it lacks the lyricism essential for a Taylor song. I don't think I need to talk about ME, Yntcd and even the Man(an attempt to be too savage, but ending up as a foolish song). Daylight is again a childish song and gets the hype because of the little speech and comparison to Red. Paper Rings is so cheesy and weird. It seems to be written by a 6 year old girl falling in love and wanting to marry someone with paper rings. Inthaf is fine but I still don't know why it was on the album, its such a filler.

It’s a big difference between being a good person and being a good girl in the eyes of the world.

OMG THIS SO MUCH!!! I was about to comment the same thing, I am glad someone else did as well. This is very much a gendered issue, and I have seen other men comment similarly and not seeing it from women's perspective, and clearly not getting it. And it irks me _so_ much... Being a good girl often means being invisible, silent ( i.e. silenced), polite, etc. That is the programming that too many girls receive from very early on and how they build their identity (as Taylor clearly has done). It is not healthy in a long run, and nothing anyone should aspire to be. Yes, we should all try to be good people, but let's not teach the future generations to be good girls.

The thing about Taylor is that she explained WHY she was voting for a certain candidate. She didn’t tell people who to vote for. She made a very intelligent post about voting. always going above & beyond.

Maybe she'll stop touring after ERAS, but she has written a screenplay that has been greenlit and will go into production. There are so many things she can do. It will be fun to see her do her thing!

Lover is her most streamed album on streaming platforms so it’s doing pretty well!! And it isn’t her worst album, it’s very sweet and has many stand outs

I love how you guys had this whole spiel about the smart buisiness move of not getting involved in politics, right before the part where she got involved in politics

she also started working on lover during rep so that's why they are so close together. But making lover made her so happy

Lover was an absolute success. It charted on all music charts almost. It wasn't a failure. And her first single ME! became one of the most stremed MV at that time. It has some of her most meaningful and deep songs.

This was such a great video to be able to watch from start to finish as it premieres!! Thank you guys for taking the time to watch the whole documentary and pause to discuss it and pay a lot of attention to all of it! Again, that was a great video!

But are they listening to the whole album front to back??? Or just the good songs? Lover has a lot of great songs on it... but then there's a lot of "I Forgot that you Existed" fillers in it. I can see if 8 out of 18 songs are getting constant attention how someone will say Lover as a whole is trending. Her good songs from the album are like really, really good. Her other songs on the album are kind of mid to okay. Not bad by any means, but borderline forgettable.

I hate when people say lover was a flop. It was #7 on the billboard charts last week (feb 2024) as well as #11 on the year end charts for 2023, despite being released in 2019. No one else can achieve that and if that’s how her “worst album” performs… that’s pretty amazing! ❤

Lover literally just went back to the top 10 of the Billboard 200. That person just hates fun.

I know you were kidding, but to clarify her point: no one cares what Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, or Paul Simon look like, or how old they get. All that matters is the music. With a woman, every person comments first on how they look, so getting older and not being "a shiny new thing" affects a woman's career, unlike a man's.

Reputation album was when she came back from a year off, media didn’t like the album, she didn’t receive any Grammy nominations. Her next album was Lover which is completely diff. It did receive a nomination at Grammys but didn’t win. Then pandemic happened.

Only a few minutes in. Where she talks about wanting to be a good girl. Its a bit more complex than just trying to be a good person. I think yes, most people want to be a good person.... But i think shes commenting here more on the pressure to be a "good girl" which is a message that starts from the moment we can talk, where little boys are encouraged to explore and take risks and be brave, little girls are rarely told any of those things and are instead encouraged to behave, to listen, to look after others, to take on household chores, to be "good". To be a good person is noble.... To be a "good girl" is a totally different thing and not necessarily something to aspire to.

the thing with Lover is the lockdown. Lover is a GREAT ABLUM but definitly one that wouldve shined so much more live. Kind of like reputation. A lot of ppl didnt like that album but when they saw the AMAZING tour it grew a lot on them. Lover definitly wouldve been so much more loved if it had had a tour.

Taylor did take off for 2 years during the Pandemic! That’s when she wrote Folklore & Evermore & both of those albums were about characters that were fictional . Some songs, but very few on both albums were about t out her life m!

To say sorry in advance for the planned phone recording? And the worst part was the world sided with Kimye. And the truth only came out when their marriage was falling apart then "someone" leaked the real unedited phone conversation. It took two long years for the world to find out that they condemned Taylor based on an evil edited phone conversation. I think maybe the reason why the Rep nomination was so important to her is more about the context of what she'd been experiencing around that time. 1989 had been the pinnacle of her career thus far. She had just essentially gone into hiding for a year after being decimated on social media by Kanye and Kim. She thought her career was over. Reputation was her big comeback and at the time, she probably thought the success or failure of Reputation was going to foreshadow her future success in the industry.

After the huge success of The Eras Tour, her re-records and her albums in the last 5 years, I'm 100% sure she is not done making music and Swifties are not done listening to her. I'm sure she'll stick around for about 10 years from now and even more actually as a public figure and the Swifties will keep listening to her music. Taylor's evermore and folklore albums do what you talk about at 23 mins. It's amazing what she does when she writes about imaginary stories and other people's perspectives.

Lover album is by far the best Taylor swift album, one of her most streamed albums. Maybe the reason, people didn't like it because of the kanye west, kim drama and they had a lot fans back than, but tbh Lover is not a bad album. Lover is by far the best work with almost all of the tracks being popular

I'm late to the game, but 1989, the album before reputation, was a HUGE success. It was her first all pop album and her second album to win album of the year. So for reputation to not even get nominated for an award probably was a kick to the gut. More so because she was still overcoming the challenges of her public image at that time.

I still can't believe Rep didn't get album of the year. It was the AOTY.

Lover overall doesn’t identify as her “best” work but it has some of her most amazing melodies. It has lot of filler songs which aren’t that bad but not good as Taylor’s standards. That’s all. People are streaming its good songs nowadays since she selected those songs for her current tour.

It’s odd that Reputation didn’t win best album because it’s the HIGHEST GROSSING TOUR IN HISTORY!!!

Kim’s mom asked her to call Taylor and apologize and she refused. Also Kim used to be a fan of Taylor before she got with Kanye. I think Kim likes drama and either came up with the idea to make Taylor look bad or heard Kanye was planning something malicious to do to Taylor. Also in Kanye’s song famous music video Kanye had a replica of Taylor in bed with him and Kim.

Shes working on Lover. Lover came out right before covid so the tour got cancelled and it was very overlooked but is swifties loved it. 😍 It gave us Cruel Summer! Reputation didnt do well at Grammys but the stadium tour was the highest grossing your in US ever as of 2018. She was really just hoping to do well because she was hoping the drama of the media was over, she thought everyone was still against her. Keep in mind she left the public view for 3 years before reputation came out and did no pr for it.

Lover is just now booming for some reason with cruel summer because of the eras tour. Also I think it was supposed to be released before rep but the drama happened so she made and released rep instead. Reputation doesn't have a Taylor's version yet!!! It's going to take off baby! I'm here for it! My fav album. I love everything of her of course..she doesn't have a bad song or album period....

@@rHamUK the reality is, you don't know that. the same thing was said when she broke up with Calvin Harris, and that break up was very much not amicable as evidenced by his weird twitter rants he went on afterwards when Taylor revealed she wrote This Is What You Came For. She obviously does not want the press right now to be all about the break up instead of her record breaking tour. So of course they will say it's amicable. But the truth is, we will never know for sure (unless her next album reveals some truths).

@@rHamUK yes they did, she literally retweeted Calvin after it happened lmao. "The only truth here is that a relationship came to an end & what remains if a huge amount of love and respect". That was in june the year they broke up, then in july he changed his tune and said she was trying to "bury" him by leaking that she wrote the song. Like I said, no one knows the truth. Tree also leaked to the press right when the tour started that Taylor & Joe were doing great and he planned to travel with her when he could, obviously that turned out to be false when less than 2 weeks later the break up was confirmed. They clearly don't want the press affecting her tour. Like I said, we will never know the 100% truth, her future music will be the biggest clue.

We, as a society have a problem with people being too successful so we relish in their 'downfall '....then, once they've been torn down enough, we all pull back and say, 'wow, everyone was so terrible " as if we were never apart of it. We do it, especially to women, again and again and again.

Lover is in my top 5.. love it !!!

whoever said Lover was her worst album was probably talking her own personal taste, because Lover was the best selling album of 2019 😂 it went platinum in like a month on pure album sales (not including streaming) so yeah… definitely not a bad album 😬
