The line “I should’ve asked you questions, I should’ve asked you how to be” is so devastating and captures that specific feeling of regret after losing a loved one. I don’t know how Taylor’s able to perform this again and again on tour without crying! It’s hard not to be emotional whenever I listen to it.

I had no idea Taylor is a direct descendant of such a glamorous famous opera singer! Marjorie looks so gorgeous, and you can see Taylor’s similarities in her young schoolgirl photo, I think. How awesome must it have been to have such a beautiful, musically talented grandmother? I can’t imagine. Taylor would have known her until she, Taylor, was 12 years old. That’s old enough to have precious memories. This may be why Taylor seems like such a natural in the spotlight, she’s well and truly grounded. Fabulous legacy.❤
Just lost my grandmother 2 months ago… came back to this song after not hearing it for a while. Needless to say, it hits different now.❤️ miss and love you grandma

This song helped me get through the loss of my grandmother in June. Bless you Taylor and Marjorie 💕
This is absolutely beautiful. The song starts with what sounds like advice that her grandmother gave her and we get more advice throughout the song. You get the understanding that Taylor’s character comes from her grandmothers guidance and life experiences. The line “all your closets of backlog dreams” is so bittersweet as Marjorie had all these dreams as an opera singer and now her beloved granddaughter is achieving things beyond her wildest dreams - That Marjorie never lived to see. Marjories memory shines through Taylor and Taylor is the way she is because of the way her Grandmother moulded her.
I think Taylor Swift really figured out how to diversify her audience, because I'm a hardcore indiehead and I love this

To make you love this song even more, Taylor said in her interview with Zane Lowe that her grandmother’s opera vocals were included in this song. Right after she sings “I’d think you were singing to me now” you can hear a quick snippet of her grandmother singing opera. And you can also hear her at the end of the song, the outro is her grandmother if you listen closely.
Rest in peace, Grandma Finlay.

I lost my grandmother 2 months before my wedding… not even a month after she was in the ground I inherited her house and all her things…. This song is amazing. My grandma spoiled me like I’m sure Taylor’s did her. Every scrap of her was taken from me and now I have all of her things. Thank you Taylor for understanding such sad feelings. I love you forever for that! I still feel my grandma all around this house ❤

this is just my favorite song from her. It‘s so emotional, the story behind that song and her emotions while she sings. What a masterpiece.
The most beautiful song because it's true .the ones we love are always right here
In her 14 years of career, she experimented and tested her limits. She reinvented herself with each album. Made her album more like an era. She stepped into 3 different genres- country, pop and now alternative. Taking such big risks fearlessly and making masterpieces. I dont find any reason to not stan her! Its a bliss to be born in the same era as Taylor and listen her music. Stan her forever cause i'm a swiftie for evermore.
