This is my ''comfort'' song. No dear, True golden love is not always the one you are dating, she is not calling her current relationship golden and the only true one she ever felt, she will never devalue her past experiences like that. She means, sometimes you have to let go your true love. it's more likely to be about her and her changed understanding and beliefs of love, her statement says that things are not black and white, as if it works out it's white and truelove, if it doesn't it's black. She once used to believed in this concept, but no more. Sometimes you have to let go of the people you truly loved and move on. And She wants to be remembered for all the love she shared not by the hate she received for dating them ( understand her audio clip in end ) she is not calling any particular person her true love. Her perspective changed in 1989 as described quite often. She is describing that changed perspective here.

It looks so pretty and sparkly at nighttime but in the daylight she can see its ugliness and cruelty. The Sun in the allegorical Platonic sense had never risen for her until she discovered true love; hence why nearly all her songs prior to the Lover album are hinted to take place at nighttime.

@@nuclearcatbaby1131 I love how u found the depth, but she uses lyrics with double meaning, if u are not a new swifty u will know, in reality she has experienced back and forth love in NYC where she gave multiple chance to her xbfs, it is mentioned in 1989 and Red directly because both stories were rooted in NYC, so that's why it makes sense in context of complete verse. The song is about " herself" and how her perspective of love has changed, not about finding true love in any bf. It is her journey from viewing love as burning Red to golden. But point is, in no way she is talking about gateaway care or it's muse, by that line she is describing clothes that tom and her wore in met gala, not their love experience, she even mentioned that "it ain't a love story". But in the black and white which is mentioned in OOTW or 'burning red' in Red, she is talking about what she was experiencing in love. Hence i think getaway car really doesn't fit with lyrics.

@@shailstia9137 The whole theme that I took away from 1989 was that city life was unsatisfying and she was using her casual lovers to fill a void in her soul. She might have said it meant one thing but if you listen and analyze it’s got a different meaning. 1989 feels like deep depression being covered up with stimulants such as cocaine. Only happy on the surface.

They are. In the foreword/prologue of the Red album, Taylor referenced the song Starlight and said, "There's something to be said about moving on and realizing that real love shines golden like starlight, and doesn't fade or spontaneously combust...This record is about love that was red." Starlight was written about her imagining what someone else's relationship was like. She knew they had *real* healthy love and she hadn't experienced it for herself. But this time with Daylight, she does have real golden love, but it's brighter than she ever imagined, hence the change from nighttime to daytime.

Harley Anderson No all of her previous albums were moonlight. And city lights. And headlights. The types of lights that you only see at nighttime. Listening to this song makes me feel kinda lonely, not gonna lie, even though right now I'm listening to this song in my headphones while being surrounded by my family. I still feel somewhat alone.... this song hits different.
