I respect that Taylor is such a kind and humble person and ran to hug Kendrick. Yes, 1989 was huge and a fabulous album but so was TPAB. Even years later, there’s people trying to make a big thing over it, but let’s all appreciate it for what it is.

Its like winning a trophy for who’s the least terrible of the bunch! They wouldn’t dare give aoty to an experimental jazz rap album with substance and a deep concept. Why on Earth would they do that when they can give an award to another generic pop album!
Yes the album is great, but having a relationship album win over an album that deals with so many issues in the world that are still happening is actually mind boggling. Kendrick 100% deserved AOTY but they gave him best rap album AOTY to not make it seem like they didn’t acknowledged him at least f*ck the Grammys.

@@logicalinvestor1120 the grammys are literally racist. there is literally evidence of the higher ups at the recording academy sexually assaulting women and actively being racist. majority of them are terrible people. and the grammys always seem to only hand over awards to artists in black genres when they're in those categories. if taylor can win best pop album and aoty, why can't kendrick? and no, both albums didn't deserve it, tpab did, 1989 didn't. there are objective aspects of music and tpab is objectively better than 1989 in many ways. also i agree that most rap fans have only listened to the popular tracks off 1989, but i've gone through the entire album multiple times. out of the woods is one of the better tracks, but the fact you can so cleary pick which of the tracks are worse is more proof of how tpab is better. you could rank every track off tpab in any order and it would be valid. and almost every track off the album holds up against the best tracks on 1989. and most of us aren't here to start conflict with ts stans. we're calling out racism. this is literally racism at it's finest among the supposed "greats of the music industry." 1989 is a great album, but tpab is miles better. most popheads agree with that.

Definitely would have voted for Taylor to win this over all those artist because I don’t listen to their music. But I bet I know two of them and I’m pretty sure they make great music I’ve heard Kendrick Lamar name, never heard a song from him. And the weekend on the radio. But I very proud Taylor won. @@khalilurtrahman I think 1989 was a great album. I do, however, believe Kendrick Lamar should have won aoty because of the incredible social commentary and production value it holds. The narrative in the album is still as relevant today as it was 6 years ago. The Grammys have not been as progressive in the past, and been reluctant to award artists of colour or hip-hop productions. I do not think of Taylor Swift as any less of an artist and I believe she has made other projects more worthy of challenging To Pimp a Butterfly. I also appreciate the respect they show for eachother.

Obi Wan Kenobi 1989 spent and entire gear on the billboard top 10! I know the grammys aren't about sales and all that (but they sorta are) and 1989 without a doubt changed the world! Everyone knew about it and her singles were everywhere. Granted Kendrick's album talked about more sensitive matters but it didn't change the world in the same way compared to Taylor's album. Also 1989 world tour made over $217,000,000!! And was one of the best selling tours of all time. I think the way that 1989 shook the world, had such a big influence on everyone and the way that it changed 2015 made it win the award for best album. But I do understand where you're coming from.

I think TPAB should have won too and is one of the greatest albums of all time but 1989 is also one of the greatest pop albums of all time. They both appear on several greatest of all time lists and have aged well and are still loved to this day. You dont have to put someone down to lift someone else up.

Thank you. I was happy Taylor won but sad cause the second I got on Twitter, I knew people would badmouth her. Kendrick didn't seem that fussed, he was happy for Taylor and besides if that's the growth he had from the last time he lost, KL3 will not just be lit, it will burn down the facilities of everyone who owns the album. 1989 & TPAB are albums about an emotional journey, both put effort in & tbh both deserved to tie but i'm happy with Taylor winning, there's this connection the Swifties have had with 1989, the tour has shown that with everything going on, we can forget the world's troubles and just get lost in the music. Taylor has a powerful connection with music felt around the world, and it's that indescribable powerful connection with 1989 that saw her win I think.

+supermonkeyyyyyy Taylor definitely deserves AOTY, but imo not because it was the most technically sound or excellent album; she deserves it because of the impact it had and that's something that only Taylor can truly achieve for us. Anyway... let's not sit here and pretend Carly Rae Jepsen's album was not 10x better than Taylor's, we all knew this.

+SOK Love i think either way it fell as long as it was Kendrick or Taylor i'd be happy. 1989 was also a great album with all the factors you mentioned, except complex, the album's message was easy to understand. When listening to 1989, I felt very transcended by the music, lyricism and message, and this was furthered backed up on The 1989 World Tour. I'm not trying to swing after you, definitely not, but I feel as well Kendrick losing out will be great for Album 3, because if that is the progression he made after losing Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City in 2013, just imagine how on fire KL3 is going to be. He'll get there eventually. I also think his message is getting across very well as his performance of The Blacker the Berry/Alright was one of the most talked about of the night. The message is seeping through, so really he'll get there. It'll all be alright eventually. Both 1989 & TPAB were amazing albums and both deserved to win.

After hearing Taylor speak about how she made 1989 at the Grammy museum I realised she deserved it just as much as Kendrick and The Weekend. Yes, the topics on 1989 aren't the same as they are on To Pimp A Butterfly but she still put a lot of hard work and effort into 1989, a lot more than I thought anyway.

+Younes Abenal it doesn't matter about how much work you put into an album. yes you can put a ton of work into an album and still sound just ok. it's more about the music and how it sounds and how it feels. kanye west puts soooooo much effort into things he does but that doesn't mean his songs are always good. his previous album was so horrible and his new album is barely alright. in the end, the award is meant for how the album actaully is.....this award is not for "most effort".

Plus, the fame it has had that we still listen to new single from the album in 2016 when it came out in 2014. Soo... Fuck off with your Kendrick and his unoriginal album that all rappers try to do.

Nah. Folklore was good but IMO Future Nostalgia really deserves the Album of the year. Even though Folklore was as innovative as FN, Future Nostalgia was basically the album that set the base and era for the Disco Revival of 20. Future Nostalgia needed lesser reviews to receive the score Folklore got with over 30 reviews. Sorry but Future Nostalgia deserves it this time. And look at the bright side, a female is coming to collect the AOTY!
