    Honestly this whole speech was such a power move. She spoke for 15 minutes and was not getting off that stage. Her role in the industry may change in her 30’s but if ones things for sure she is not going away anytime soon.

    Can you explain to me why so many super successful artists of today, and the past, were women? If men are not allowing women to have success? Madonna, Rihanna, Miley, Tina Turner, Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow.. I mean the list is huge. Madonna is one of the biggest selling artists of all time and she started in the 1980s. And Swift herself went Platinum at age 19 and won countless awards from the music business (Grammys etc). So how did it conspire to stop her success? She never complained at all about how her management and record label let her go about presenting her music pretty much how she wanted... not once until now. Just the opposite.. she used to regularly heap praise on Big Machine and Scott and all the people working with her to make her a success. I don't get it...not much of what she says makes much sense. And at the end of the day, it is the public who decides what they want to buy... have you ever bought a record you didn't want to buy? Right.. you didn't. So artists just have to make music that people want to buy and they will be successful.. MAN OR WOMAN.

  • @zx7-rr486

    @zx7-rr486

    5 ай бұрын

    And I'll make another point. There are many who would say the only reason Swift has become so successful is because the music industry has relentlessly promoted her and propelled her to the top. I don't completely agree with that because she has brilliant musical talent, but a lot of people who don't make it (male or female) also have talent. So it does not add up that the music industry is against women. Of course there are sharks and ruthless exploitative business practices in the industry, but they are applied equally against men just as much as women. At the end of the day to the business people it is about making money, and I really don't think they care about whether the artist is male or female. Taylor has a beef with a couple of particular men.. and she seems to have projected it across the whole industry. And I say again.. people buy what they want to listen to.. and music has never been more easily accessible through the internet.. and I see as many female artists as male. So where exactly is the misogyny? Serious question.

The way that she has reinvented her self so many times during the years is incredible and I couldn't be more proud of some like her who's taking her experience and is using it to empower women. Taylor deserves everything, all the love and support from her fans and for sure should be able to be the one and only owner of her records. As long as Taylor keeps singing there will be a voice for all women in the music industry.

    @@XTMorin365I know this was commented a year ago but I’m just extremely confused about your own arrogance. Your comments feels majorly misguided, and none of it quite makes sense. It is her award, that she’s winning, on behalf of herself, so of course she’s going to celebrate the hard work she’s put in to get there. She’s written and performed her own music, and she worked hard to get to where she is now - so it’s kind of obvious she’s going to congratulate herself on that. However, she didn’t just talk about herself. She spoke about dozens of other female artists that also worked hard to get to where they are, and thanked them for their hard work in the industry as well. As for shifting all the blame for everything that’s ever happened to her onto somebody else - every bad thing she brought up WAS the fault of somebody else? She spoke about constantly being torn down by the media, which is in fact the media’s fault and not her own. She spoke about her music being sold without her knowledge, which is in fact not her fault. It feels like people like you hop on the internet just to spread unnecessary hate and anger into places where you shouldn’t even be. You’re not obligated to like her, that’s totally okay. So why are you on a video solely about her responding to her fans to make them feel bad? Sounds like a very lonely and sad waste of your time. Find a hobby instead of spreading negativity about a woman who has struggled and worked hard to be where she is today.

    @@JaysonM695 Addressing problems and the fact that they require solutions is not negativity, and ignoring them certainly isn't positivity. She was not boasting, rather sharing an experience. A speech in which one shares their experiences in an honest and raw way is much more interesting and thoughtful than a speech where one credits all their success to others in order to appease people like you. At the end of the day, Taylor Swift is responsible for Taylor Swift's success and she should be allowed to say it. Male artists center their speeches around themselves constantly, which is not what she did anyways, but receive no backlash for it. She addressed problems which need to be solved in order to make the music industry a place where young artists can own their own music. She took time out of a speech about herself to defend artists who have been harmed by the industry. I'm so sorry that we no longer live in a time where women must credit their success to men, or stand by while their hard work is taken from them.

Believing she'll therefore be relevent 200 years from now on the sole basis of love songs, when she has NEVER once challenged or changed the status quo, is a truly ignorant statement. Shes a young attractive white girl who has mediocre vocals, and appeals predominantly to girls under the age of 30. Nothing about her CURRENTLY resonates with long term relevance. Might wanna look into the history of other female renowned international pop stars, and see how relevent they remain after just 30 years in the industry....let alone 200 years. As a little girl back when she started, until now that I’m a woman myself, I always drew strength from her music, and many other women’s - and I take pride and comfort in knowing that the woman I just blindly supported and loved as a child for her music, is also a woman that as a thinking and feeling adult, I now identify with and choose to support for what she stands for, and would choose to do so for all time. P.S. I love Jameela Jamil’s presence on that stage too - one of the biggest feminists and advocates ever. I already know she supports everything Taylor said.

After she dropped Midnights I started listening to the album and I fell in love with the creative process and visuals in the songs and music videos. I agree Taylor has got a lot of unwarranted hate .. which is ridiculous, she is a musician - not a politician! I am a huge fan - but this notion that she "proved that female artists can create things in the music industry" is honestly total nonsense. Believe it or not Taylor was not the first successful female artists. Not by a long shot. There have been THOUSANDS of super successful female musicians going back decades. Tina Turner. Madonna. Alanis Morrisette. Celine Dion. J-Lo. Beyonce. Rihanna. The list is HUGE. I am not convinced that females get any more crap from record companies and execs etc. than many male artists. Most of the things that Taylor is talking about applies to male artists and bands (remember that the majority of acts are not solo - so could be a mix of male and female.) and I have heard the same complaints from male artists. Prince literally called himself a "slave" .. which was a bit pretentious and embarrassing, but super successful artists moaning about the industry that gave them their success is nothing new.

None of the artists own their music but they never speak about it because they like to be adored by the companies or maybe they aren't talented enough. But Believe me it's 2023 and Taylor Swift is still getting criticised for her nusic & people are still undermining her talent because she's white. She has spoken about voting, equal wages to artists, lgtq and everything that needed to addressed not because of a 'trend' but because she considers it her duty to be on the right side of the history and to influence people in the right way. but if still you consider that she isn't 'woman of the decade ' you are just biased. Ps: She didn't say all male artists are living happily or something. we're here talking about female representation & how women are ridiculed for anything they do

    @@ananyabaldotra I don't think you understand how the music industry works at all. Nearly all artists own the rights to their songs. It's the RECORDINGS they generally don't own because, believe it or not, the record company fronts large amounts of money to pay for the recording studio, the producers, the sound engineers, the mix engineer, the session musicians, the promotion, the production of physical media .. etc. etc. Because they pay for virtually everything up front, the record label insists on owning the rights to the RECORDINGS, not the songs (which are usually intellectual property of the song writer). So when you say "hard earned music", the record company would say, "yes, the hard earned music that WE paid for all the hard work to get done making it". That's how it works .... You see when Taylor makes these speeches, it doesn't explain the detailed realities, and of which you know nothing, clearly.

I hope that we can FINALLY start treating women who are also artists/musicians with the respect and dignity they all SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FIGHT FOR 👊🏻❤️👊🏻

I was one of those who was saddened when she went completely pop, but who knew that was only the beginning of her struggle behind the scenes as she grew. I have always appreciated her music but I have never truly realized her strength, eloquence, grace, and intelligence before this past year. Taylor Swift is a true inspiration to all who will give her the time of day. This speech was beyond necessarily in formulating the message that women have always been and continue to be refused the chance that men have in the music industry. Music is art. And people only criticize art because they cannot understand it. They won’t. This is such a beautiful display of women uplifting women regardless of the way our patriarchal society measures women against each other on the basis of beauty, talent, status, and wealth. For too long women have been told that their worth can be and is only measured by their beauty and politeness which is code for “humbly accepting and allowing the continuation of the stereotype that men deserve success and women must prove themselves worthy of it.” Throughout her years as a public figure, she has experienced criticism, shame, unprovoked slander, and outright bullying, and has become the thing impotent men have feared the most. An icon. She has powered through the abuse and has risen from the ashes of pure hate as a phoenix. She is the woman of the decade. And yet, she still manages to recognize the achievements of her “competitors.” Taylor has always been an inspiration since the age of 16 and has never lost her humility, intelligence, grace, or eloquence. Us women are more than our status and beauty. She has proven that time and time again. Hopefully now people will listen.

    Taylor Swift is such a beautiful soul. She really has changed a lot in the industry that people don't even know about. That I'm just finding out about now. I just love how she is herself and she Embraces her flaws. I've seen videos of her during her concerts when something didn't go right or she didn't sing the song the right way and she'll stop and tell everyone her mistake and she'll do it over again instead of just pretending like it didn't happen. She laughed that herself which we all should do because none of us are perfect. I just think that she's just a incredible woman. No I'm not a Swifty like a bazillion people are. I do enjoy her music but I do appreciate how real she is and she doesn't take her fame or her money to her head and think that she's better than anyone else. She Embraces her flaws like I said and a lot of people with the type of Fame that she has will try and look perfect. So Taylor Swift you totally deserve this award you are a Class Act a beautiful woman and you have such a beautiful heart. I know you're on your concert for right now and I heard that in every city that you play in you give so much money to the agencies in the city to stock up the food bank for at least a year. And I heard that the bonuses that you give your employees that are touring with you are humongous. There really needs to be more people like you in this world. You have so much money and so much Fame yet you use that to help stock up food banks in the cities that you have your concert in and that just is so heartfelt. I just don't understand how people like Kanye West and Kim Kardashian and all these other haters have come at you with negativity when they cannot even compete to be the type of person that you are. So ignore the haters and continue to be a beautiful, kind-hearted and generous person that you are. Congratulations

    My friend is a sound engineer for this event, when someone was speaking they didn’t play the role audio, only the audio from the mic was picked up. That’s why when she pauses you can’t hear anything, the entire crowd has to react in order to hear it. So the audience wasn’t being disrespectful, they were listening. Also, Taylor usually gives speeches at award shows where she has tons of fans who laugh and clap nearly every sentence, this is why she is pausing, she’s used to it. It’s not because she is thinking everyone should clap or expecting it, it’s just habit.

She releases "Taylor's Version"s of the controversial songs, is Happier than Ever, and shuts down all haters.* If you're a Swiftie, copy this comment and paste this in other comment sections to put in light Taylor's story.

    I love love love the fact that she calls out Scooter Braun, not even privately but straight up says it. Another reason why she is one of the strongest pop artists in history. Ariana has to look over that contract and get out as soon as possible. Two inspirational women can't be stepped on.

    I think it’s incredible how she actively includes the audience in every sentence. She’s looking at them, and almost expecting them to respond. And hence, they do. Even during the awkward silences, she doesn’t back down. That is why she is who she is. Woman of the decade, a leader, she was born to inspire. There’s truly not that many people in music that can command a crowd with that kind of leadership.
