Beautiful work! I’ve been experimenting with gold leaf recently, looks like you sprayed the size on, definitely gonna give that a shot, seems you get a really smooth finish spraying vs brushing. Thank you for all the vids, keep them coming!

when you applied the squares, it looked really bad, how did you get it to look flawless and look like no gaps at all in the gold squares you put on ?

It's how the gold leaf works. It's really fine and it tears really easily so anywhere there is a bare patch of substraight with adhesive showing the gold will stick to right up to the edge and then any loose leaf that overlaps just breaks off and falls away.

Hi Mate just about to start putting the gold leaf on my tank and did a test first and used PVA for glue but just didn't seem right , Can i ask what you used to stick the leaf in place please ? megga job on the helmet by the way !

do you have to put any type of adhesion promoter on the goldleaf for the black paint to adhere to it properly. obviously you cant sand the goldleaf. or do you simply spray the color on top without any adhesion promotor or sanding

Is this done with genuine gold leaf or gold on base? I have tried it with gold on base but it turned out very patchy & tarnished after a week or so before i cleared it. I layered it, brushed all the overlap off and burnished it with soft cottonwool but still turned out very patchy. I also had some sheets of a slightly different colour, almost like they had a copper tinge to them. I would send you a picture but it wont let me post here. Thank you in advance for any advise you can give. Fantastic work on your helmets, been following you work for a while now.

I actually used a water based size to do this one although I have experimented with all the different types.

Hi Lalramengmawia. It is call "Gold Leaf" and it is real gold that is made so thin that a slight breeze is enough to rip it. It is applied onto an adhesive coating called "size" and then it has clear coat applied over the gold to protect it.

Adobe illustrator and a GCC plotter.

Covering a helmet with 24k gold, I was very impressed. But for what? Like putting gold in food and eating it and the result is only waste that is thrown away. Frankly I am surprised by the thought of someone who throws something of value for something that I think is not important, while all that can be used for something good that is more useful in my opinion. Really I really can't understand Btw, sorry if my language isn't good or if I offend you

Hi Mr Monkey. Not offended at all. The helmet was done in gold because Taylor had just won the championship he was running in. After he wore it for the last race it was then put in a cabinate as a trophy item.

Definitely. The gold would mark if it wasn't clear coated in before the rest of the design was done.

Hi Samtanto. It is called Gold Leaf. It is real gold that is pressed so flat that a slight breeze can rip it. You have to apply an adhesive called size before laying the gold on.
