In two decades from now, you might find yourself reminiscing about how great the year 2023 was, just as you do today. Therefore, make the most of your life, savor every moment, and embrace the present with full enthusiasm. Instead of being overly optimistic about the current times and the future, focus on living in the now and cherishing the experiences it brings.
In those days the World Trade Center Towers still dominated the view across the river where I lived in downtown Jersey City. By the time I left in 2015, there were so many towers in Jersey City that when I stood on the front porch and looked left, I could not see anything in New York anymore. I had to go down by the curb on the sidewalk to see New York and even then, you had to know what was in New York, it was no longer obvious just by looking. Those were the days: when the World Trade Center was always there, something you had just seen or would see again soon. I had temp jobs up above the 100th floor and on other floors too. What a view we had up there at Shearson Lehman. Often I was there after the sun was down. The elevators were so big. I used to ask myself if I would want to work in those buildings full time and the answer was, not really. I don't believe in buildings that tall anymore. If something goes wrong there are just too many people and too many stairs. It is just too much. Whatever anybody says, don't believe it. It is just too much. Thank you for the ride. I would love to do it again. 8/22/21
I went to visit the towers in the summer of 1996 it was such a beautiful day i remember being in the elavator so excited to get to the top i was about 12 at the time still hard to believe after 14 years there gone

3:45 The towers finally making their appearance... I remember on the first time I came back to NYC after the fateful day I glanced in that direction while on the way in a bus and for a split second I actually half-expected the familiar sight before I was instantly greeted by an empty space. Seeing their demise on TV live was bad enough, but actually going there and experiencing their sudden absence first-hand...it just broke my heart to finally realize that they were indeed gone 😔😔😔

As an ex New Yorker, in 2001 the building and signs in your video look like I remember, and oddly the traffic looks normal, Not Crazy like these Days! And it's good to remember seeing yellow cabs, Not Uber & Lyft which killed the cabbies. And to think we all functioned without Smart Phones and people survived just fine! And Yes this Millennium started off badly with the 9/11 attack on the United States and our lives changed, things have gotten Crazy Expensive and more complicated and dangerous. Life simple Joys that always existed in the 1/2 century before are gone and have been replaced with a sickly acceptance of "THE NEW NORMAL". Life has been bad ever since!

What is common, that everyone exactly remember that day, 11.09.2001, and what they did that date. I was on my way from physics exam at Uni, driving from Kraków to Sanok, east Poland. My girlfriend picked up the call from her mother. She started to explain to us what just have happened. It was so difficult to catch, that enormous tragedy. Once we got back home, we jest sat in front of tv and followed breaking news. Horrible view. It's not me to judge and comment if towers collapsed due to melted steel (i have my own opinion about that). I just wanted to express, that it's so sad, that many innocent souls lost their lifes. There were millions upon millions of people who visited the towers inside and outside before they were gone. If they went there and didn't take very much photographs of the buildings from the inside or outside, of such a unique place, then that was there choice. Many people afterwards most likely wished they had. The towers were first attacked back in 1993, if you remember. If you don't, just google it. You would think more people would visit and appreciate those buildings after the first attack, but they still didn't receive much respect. They were not exactly liked by some people, because they thought the buildings were too plain looking. Which they weren't. There was an indifference to them compared to the other buildings in New York city at the time.

This is a great video, thanks for uploading.
I was just there this morning to visit the memorial. So much has changed and it's so very sad
Great write up or history... One of the best outlines that I've ever seen. You really laid it out... Always refreshing seeing someone literate who also pays attention to detail. It gves me a pit in my stomach every time I see one of these videos routinely visiting the WTC. I spent about a minute or so in the lower level before just turning around and exploring rest of New York City. Plus, I remember seeing the WTC from the observation areas of the Empire State Building... Just two big square buildings that you just assumed would be there forever. So sorry I didn't explore the place more.
Great video. The FDR drive to the World Trade Center was great. Great to see all of this from that view. Thanks for posting.

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
thanks 4 posting' great video, felt i was there x
Beautiful loved the video! The FDR has some really nice views of Downtown. :D
Back when we didn't have Uber's or use any apps to order everything ,Taxi cabs didn't use gps neither
And then, the world was never the same. Even from the other side of the world. How can one single day change the fate of the world ? Though I'm from France, I remember every bit of that fateful day. I'm speechless.
Thanks for posting this, lots of memories. Can't believe the taxi fare from midtown was $14!

This is a very well done video, I love the WTC and miss them very much. I remember watching them being built on TV, I came to New York in 83’ first thing the Twin Towers. Saw them 12/07/2021 60 years to the day of Pearl Harbor, and will be back for the new Tower and museum
Thanks 🙏 for sharing this vid
Cool, thanks! 👍
it's great how people shot vids that are so important at the time, yet are history later!
The good ole days, I miss the old N.Y.C ....I was in 7th grade when the twin towers was attacked !

I was in 9th grade in high school.
I'm in the UK and was in college at the time. I was about 17 and our time it happened around 1-3pm. I remember the first I heard about it was when my friend was receiving loads of messages asking if her dad was ok (he worked in new york). We were in a public park and confused as to what was happening, but when we got back to college after lunch all lessons stopped and we saw it all on the TV. I didn't realise how significant that day would be. ❤

Her dad was fine, he wasn't in that area at the time. But he should have been. The only time he was ever thankful for being late.
Thank you!
I can’t believe that it’s gonna be the twentieth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. 2001-2021
they were huge! the towers were probably gigantic more than we can imagine. great video it shows and gives me an idea of how downtown mahattan was before and how close those people walking were when the attacks happened.
They couldnt have picked a better spot to hit us. The tallest buildings in new york, could be seen from miles away. It was a statement. Thanks for sharing. Ive never been to new york and this gives me a taste of what it'd be like. Unfortunately minus the towers. :-(

Ah, $14 for a drive like that. In Europe you pay atleast 50 for that drive.
It would be so cool to be able to taxi to the old WTC today.
Glad you liked it and thanks for watching!
To think this video is 20 years old, wow, time flies
Thanks for sharing...

The FDR Drive! It brought back childhood memories
Thank you and thanks a mill for watching!
Now it's way more than $14 dollars. It wasn't expensive at the time.

I visited the new WTC complex in 2013 back when I visited non of the buildings were open yet only the memorial. It was so crazy thought standing next to one WTC it was so tall and was so massive. Can't wait until its "twin" is built.
