    The question remains, "who is the actual filth" , The man who looks down at marginalized groups such a blacks and homeless lgbt people rejected by the world, or is the it the man himself who in Walter mitty fashion , feels entitled to a beautiful woman to the point that he threatens her when she avoids him after she catches on to how weird he is. His reaction to the rejection? He arms himself to the teeth so he can kill a politician in an attempt to buy her admiration. How pathetic

    010110101110101010xyz 24-year-old cab driver here. In the past I would have enjoyed seeing myself in Travis. Now it fills me with terror knowing that I can relate to much of this. I think introverts and extroverts are at equal risk of winding up like him. A person who's always around people can be infinitely more lonely than someone who's completely alone. It all depends on making connections that are truly meaningful, which I don't think the majority of us were raised to do. The streets are cold and unforgiving, but staying positive in the face of it helps. I'm working on doing that.

    How are you? I hope you're doing well. Nobody should have to feel like Travis Bickle, for everyone's sake. Try and connect with people, and seek professional help if necessary. Maybe it's unnecessary of me to do this, but I just don't like hearing that someone is so miserable and troubled. Anyway, again, I hope you're doin' alright. Godspeed.

Unlike most people, though, i don't think that's a bad thing at all, i walked out of Taxi Driver thinking that Travis was a sane man in an insane world, and, watching it again, years later, i can see now, that he was a madman with a good heart, in a world of madmen who are pure evil.

    I think it's real. The fact that Travis just goes back to his usual ways is really good as an ending. The cicle goes on and on, and it can not be stopped is a true message. Our heroes will be forgotten, and nothing changes.

  • @Johnnybegood_

    @Johnnybegood_

    Whichever way you see the ending its sad. Real and he lets go and Travis would want to be satisfied over again and likely kill. The small look into the mirror with the score indicates (imo) that the cycle starts over. Fake and Travis is just imagining the scenario of a perfect life for him.

    First college paper tonight, being a new yorker, this is one of my favorite films as was my fathers, who was a cabbie himself. This theme always reminds me of him, even though he's far off in his own life, and I am stuck in my apartment on East and 22nd, writing this paper. I am in my own little world. The repetitiveness of all this work makes me relate to travis in a way, it is all so maddening, at some point I feel that I am about to lose it. Then I turn on this song, lay down on the rug and think about what to do next. I should really get organiz-ized.

    One sleepless night I decided to watch Taxi Driver when I was 12. My little brain could barely handle this especially so late, it changed my world. The music and 70’s aesthetics mostly. No words other than great movie. The time of day you watch it will always effect how the movie effects you.

    Many thanks for post! I knew of "Taxi Driver", but never actually saw it until it was on T.V. last night. Didn't really watch it through though. I was tired, so I drifted in an out. But I woke up at this end scene. That sax!!! I had to know what this tune was, and I'm very good at finding music I like. When I first watched this post I was like WTH? But then I got it. This is a beautiful montage, and showed me another glimpse of myself.
