To be more precise, Mutate functions at layer 1 while Nissa applies later at layer 6.

yup it also happened again at 33:27 and forest over gemrazer is actually better for the extra nissa mana.

Wow can’t believe you guys finally get the Boots! I really like the idea of multi-tribe tribal decks, it’s quite different from the Tawnos from Commander 2018. 3:40, there it is!!! 👺. Our Winged God.

By far one of the most fun commanders. Deck is fun to watch the mutates just go off. Forgot how fun it was

Imagine Twanos about to have 'the talk' with his teenage son like, "Son, its about time we talked about the birds and..." and the son lets out a huge groan/sigh, "....the.....BEASTS." xD That's the kind of dad I'd imagine Luca being ❤😆

Dude it’s crazy I’ve been working on a tawnos deck since brothers war came out! Excited to see how much better yours is lol

"It's Craterhoof time!" needs to be the catchphrase in a Saturday morning cartoon.

I played this on videos too and it's super fun. Very interesting dynamics with mutate! Watch out, Parallel Lives does not work with Tawnos! Also, Reflections of Littjara is essentially a 2nd copy of Tawnos! :)

Seems like 3 CMC Kiora would be a good addition to the deck, with all those chunky beasts entering the battlefield.

Considered it, although Tawnos being 3 power made me cut it in the end. It's similar to Uprising, but that one is a little harder to remove at least.

Seems like Arena needs to add more birds and beasts to make Tawnos more effective

28:00 I think choosing Indrik would’ve let you keep everything, assuming that Gemrazer mutated into the Nissa-animated land is still considered a land creature (Cataclysmic Gearhulk only destroys nonland permanents). Mutate can be complicated 😅

The regular Forest creature was greyed out since it was a land, so mutating gemrazer on top ended up kinda biting him in that case. Didn't matter in the end, though!

It's mostly a non-bo, but with Tawnos and Volo you'd get 3 copies of the first bird and first beast you play! Triple craterhoof behemoth is so good it's overkill!

The birds and the beasts are flying in the trees!

As soon as I found Tawnos in a packet I immediately jammed an HB deck! With all the most relevant beasts and birds! I find he is a little too weak, since he's a 5 mana creature with no etb, but I hope you'll give me some idea to improve the deck!

Mechanized production would be kinda fun in that

Would work better if Tawnos copied on ETB instead of on cast. Probably need some Hexproof creatures to really go off with it.

From the deck screen in the beginning: copying a Craterhoof Behemoth?! Yes, please! Nissa - still a beast! Or two.

The thing that happens with the Gemrazer and the Nissa land also happens with the search spell that makes the basic land a 0/0 with a 1/1 counter for each land that’s etb that turn. (What is that called).

My take on this deck went full duplication jank. Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief Vesuvan Duplimancy Spark Double Irenicus's Vile Duplication (that second s is incorrect, no?) And then more mutate creatures. One opponent graciously let me go off and I copied Craterhoof Behemoth 5 times on a loaded board. Well over 3000 damage that swing :D

Same my guy went full duplication but jankier. Orvar, the all form Vesuvan duplimancy Parallel lives Lier, disciple of the drowned Ran "creature deals damage equal to is power" spells as my disruption and it gets pretty wild having 3+ orvars on board

I like to think about what's actually happening in-universe when you mutate with an animated land. Like do the trees grow wings and beaks? Does the ground sprout fur or feathers instead of grass? lol

Would be a fine addition! Generally I avoid 3 cmc mana creatures in green decks that have cheaper ways to ramp, as not to overextend into sweepers. Cheap mana creature into ramp artifacts or sorcery is often a safer investment, although the payoff on Gwenna and cards like Palladium Myr could be worth it.

Volo has higher upside I think, but it's a lot trickier to build. Will have to give it a try at some point!

I tried to build Tawnos in Standar and it was embarrassing...

I haven’t watched the entire video yet but mutate and Tawnos does not work, if say a gem razer was played as a normal creature and not mutating yes it would copy but if it’s mutating onto another then it doesn’t… I had this same discussion with a friend of mine, who is much more knowledgeable and he even checked the official mtg rulings on mutate and it’s there in black and white. I doubt you’ll read this or reply but if you want the link I can add it here should you want read up on it more.

Haven't found any evidence against it and it seems to work as intended on Arena. Seems very similar to the way Ivy works from the last set, except now the target is the same one twice.
