Taualuga with Maryjane
One of most treasured heritage art forms in the Pacific is our dance - and expression of our social roles, status, our joy for life and our soul. In Samoa and Tonga one of the most revered dances is the Taualuga - the dance of life.
"With the taualuga, it's just the best way for me to express myself as a Samoan, it was like when I put my hands up it felt like all the energy from our ancestors, I wasn't just dancing for myself" - Maryjane Mckibbin Schwenke

Met her in person and what more can I say. She is a true Samoan. She dances beautifully and knows her background very well. It was an amazing experience to have danced and learned a few things from MJ herself. She's so down to earth and true to herself. Keep on doing what you do best.

As the saying goes ‘DON’T TOUCH THE BOOK BY ITS COVER’ people misjudged her based on her looks. And she proved them wrong. She proved that she’s more than just being an afakasi girl from Australia ❤

This video was so beautiful. I'm grateful to you for not letting others tell you you're not Samoan. You are truly Samoan! Very inspiring for me. I'm afakasi, wasn't brought up in Samoan culture. I wanted to join the Polynesian club in school but was too worried what everyone was going to think of me cause I don't look Samoan. Now I really want to know more. Fa'afetai lava!!!!

You are a lovely inspiration. You make me cry for the yearning of this lovely culture we share. I love your explanations of things (you are a born teacher) and although I only learned siva Samoa when I was very young, my daughter and I are learning from you and she will be dancing at her school's Mosaic Fest, an opportunity for any student who wishes to participate, to share her cultural heritage. You will help us share our Samoan heritage. (Great music choice too!)

I was a fan of Mary Jane when she ran for Miss Samoa because she was the only girl competed that mention she was from Auala Savaii. So I was proud of her……didn’t know she was being judged of her being afakasi.
