I think that this ink could be nice for apprentices to use so that they have a chance to learn how to apply ink properly before their (inevitable) mistakes become permanent. Also for shows like How Far Is Tattoo Far and “prank” tattoos it would be beneficial. Otherwise though, I would not pay the price and suffer the pain just for it to fade away.

If an artist does the tattoo with less experience, there is a big chance that they will damage the skin in the application process, so it leaves a scar behind when all the ink is gone.

⏰ My friend has wanted a tattoo for ages but she’s afraid she’s would not like it anymore after a while so something like this would be perfect because she could “test run” her design. I did mention that she’d have to get tattooed twice for the same thing tho and that cooled her jets a little.

Why is everyone so pressed about this? I think the idea of a non permanent tattoo AWESOME, since I love change and couldn't possibly commit to one design for life, and I'm sure many people share this sentiment.

I agree! I really want to get a tattoo of a band logo. This band means THE WORLD to me, and their music was live changing. but I know that in 10, 15 years I will not care about it. I know that I will never commit to a fandom for over a year, so why not show my love for a band while the love lasts!

@Vema Ray drop the band name 😃😃😃 I've thought about getting a Coheed and Cambria tattoo (I'm torn between the hourglass and the dragonfly). Their music has gotten me through some abysmal periods.

As someone who has always been on the fence about getting a tattoo I love the concept of a fading tattoo. That way I can experience the process (see what the pain is like, and see if I could tolerate it on a larger scale) and if I love the tattoo and chose to get it done permanently there would most likely be a decrease in regretting the tattoo. Over all I think it’s smart because it will open up the market to many people who want to “try” a tattoo without the commitment of a traditional permanent tattoo. ⏰

I honestly kinda feel weird about the owner of this shop. In the article he talks about the interior design of his shop and how pristine it is and yada yada yada for waay to long, with very little mention of actual tattoo process. Like are you trying to advertise your tattoo shop, or an interior design agency??

This ink would be great for reality shows like Ink Masters to give as an option, coz not one season or episode did I see a customer not complaining or disliking his/her tattoo. But it would also be a slap on the artist’s face knowing your customer doesn’t trust you.

⏰ I think there is some cool artistic opportunity here in designing a tattoo to decay. There's a lot of physical art that is designed to fade, decay, rust, or fall apart to explore the full lifecycle of a material. I'd love to see people use this ink to design a tattoo with its fading process in mind, not just as an afterthought.

imo tattoos look the best AFTER a year! don’t get me wrong i love me a fresh bright tattoo lol but to me nothing is cooler than a lived in tattoo!

Mexican-Americans (Chicanos) from Southern California are an exception to the “white gatekeepers” of the tattoo industry. In the late 60s, Chicanos in prison, in my opinion, popularized the heavily tattooed body aesthetic. Hell Angels, too. Every minority rapper, black or Hispanic over the last 25 years, can attribute their styles and highly visible tattoos to Mexicans from Southern California. They really started that. New York hardcore punk scene from 90-95 also popularized the heavily tattooed look for certain demographics of Caucasians. Pantera, too. Allen Iverson, the legendary basketball player, also influenced Millennials of all races to get tattoos. Agree with your white gatekeeper point, but minorities also had a cultural impact with it.

tbh their shop looks waaaaaay more intimidating than any tattoo shop i’ve ever been to. most shops i’ve been in are lively with lots of chatting and laughing, with music playing and art on the walls. this clinic just looks a little sterile and cold. different strokes i guess lol

To me the shop looked more like a spa rather than a tattoo studio. There's nothing wrong with that. I just like it when you can see the studios artists represented on the walls.

I think this is AMAZING! I’ve been waiting for something like this for years! I’ve always wanted a tattoo but always been to nervous to do it. I’ve been going to school to become a pilot and unfortunately the industry has a hard time accepting individuals with tattoos. This allows me to try it out. The price is COMPLETELY worth it to me since I have been waiting for something like this.

For a new shop with a brand new product to say they’ve been testing and creating an ink for 6 years you’d think they would post more proof of how it will fade AND on a variety of skin tones. Some of their post looks like stock images all for aesthetic so it’s rubs me the wrong way. Their vagueness is also off putting. Have you been to this tattoo shop before making this video? Will you try going and make a video showing your experience? Not to be negative but I’d like for more transparency from a company when it comes to a new product being out in living skin.

I was curious about the scarring as well, and if it would somehow "show" if one then got a permanent tattoo over where an ephemeral one used to be, but I guess logically the scarring left would be just as visible as in a regular coverup tattoo, and in this case would be even easier to hide since it's such fine lines and has no more colour left. a good point you brought up is that they seem to start fading pretty soon, so in the end for most of that one year the tattoo will look nothing like it did at the start, the real "shelf life" of one of these seems to be around 6-9 months maybe? it's not for me, but I still think it can be an interesting option for people who maybe want to dip their toes into being tattooed but aren't so sure about their decision yet! It can be difficult at first to look at something like this from a tattoos aficionado's standpoint and not just dismiss these as "not real tattoos" since they fade so quickly, but I appreciate how you always approach the topics of your videos taking into consideration how different types of people might view something. great work! ⏰

I'm a tattooer and you're always introducing me to new things in the tattoo industry lol! I'm very sure they're just using permanent makeup inks which became a thing about 6 yrs ago. Which is also why these tattoos fade so quickly - they're made with iron oxides which the body readily absorbs. Another point to consider here is that PMU inks are wildly expensive compared to traditional tattoo inks, and it's not really obvious as to why this is, even to us tattooers.

⏰ Tbh I really love tattoos, but getting one just doesn't feel right. I change my mind a lot and would most likely end up regret getting it in the first place. So I really love the idea of temporary tattoos. And I know that the price is fairly reasonable considering they are tattooing you and it's pretty much the same process as a normal tattoo, I'd still consider twice before spending so much money and maybe 6 months of a good tattoo. Maybe if the idea ever spreads to europe and i have a stable income by then i can consider getting one for real, haha.

I always hated tattoos cuz they are permanent but I might get this when I’m older! It’s cool that you can now get a “tattoo” without being permanent. This might also be more accepting.

I think this is incredibly innovative and could be great for giving to younger kids who often get dumb ideas they don't love forever. Also tattooing has gotten so popular as a concept that tons of people want it without coming up with concrete ideas.

I think its a cool thing to do ... I love tattoos and have a few by myself ... but for example I love finger tattoos but most of them looking like shit in just a few months and so you can do a tattoo on your fingers that hold long but go away ... or if you want a tattoo on a place which isnt accepted from your future job but you want to have one there this is also a way to do what you want but doesnt mess up with your future job and life time :)

I'm not a fan, but it has its purpose. I'd be happier seeing people put more thought into what they want tattooed.

I'm a tattooist but I learned microblading as well a while back, we used ink that has natural pigments instead of inorganic pigments so if you don't like your eyebrows in 10 years when the big eyebrow trend is gone, the natural pigments will absorb into the skin rather than staying forever. The ink fades in 3 years or less

This isn't a first by any means - beauticians that do cosmetic tattooing used to do them back in the 90s in Australia. Most people ended up with visible pink scarring once the dye wore out!

Last week I get a tattoo.a 'normal'one.I thought about it for 6 Years then I looked for the style for 4years than2years to find the artist and 4 hours of work.It was painfull but worthy but I don't think I will made the same next year.I think tattoo must be forever and meaningfull.

This would be excellent for that friend that wants to tattoo their face/neck (sometimes as their first tattoos). Go for it, see how your life changes, you didn't like it? Well, it will go away

my opinion is that MOST people who get tattoos removed are because it was poorly done in the first place, not necessarily because they changed their mind. My advice is to FRONTLOAD ALL YOUR EFFORT into finding a good artist that you trust. Not the first one you find, not the cheapest. I don't think I've ever seen good tattoos (other than racists, nazi, etc) being removed. If you're unsure or can't afford a good tattoo, it's ok to wait until you are/can. Waiting for a good tattoo is much better than getting a bad one you'll want removed later anyway. Just my opinion.

I could see this as being useful for artists who are doing large pieces where there might be months between sittings and having a 'live' reference on the actual person in terms of outlines would be useful rather than having to rely on a flat image.

its not for me, but I think its brilliant from a business standpoint. ephemeral is going to make so much money.

That's probably the tattoo shop for folks that want their significant other's name tattooed on them. They could get it redone on their anniversary until they break up.

I'd say... as an artist you should buy some of this for couples name tattoos🤯🤣🤣🤣 I'd make money by saying "you want this to fade in a year and a half in case yall break up?" They should start selling it ... in all honesty this is a great way to innovate the industry

Love this idea so you can check the wear of a certain design if you iffy on it … I would do this in a heartbeat before permanently getting it done just to be sure

I actually think this is a cool idea, because like 1 in 4 people regret their tattoos. I would consider doing it, because I'd like to get a small face tattoo, but I doubt it would look very "cool" when I'm 60. This would be cool for trendy tattoos that people don't want to have FOREVER. My concern is that if it's completely gone in a year, then it's half gone, and looking awful, for the last 6 months. Also, sometimes tattooing can cause scarring, so it would suck if it faded away leaving a scar in the shape of the tattoo. Definitely not for everyone, but there is definitely a market for this.

I think this. Will be good for the indusrty and the business but I am a little old school and I think that getting a tattoo is taking a vow with our own body.

As someone who cannot decide what I tattoos I would want forever on my body, this is cool!! A lot can change in a year. Having to pay basically twice the amount if you decide to get the permanent tattoo is a downer but if you end up not liking the tattoo, it’s probably cheaper than getting a permanent tattoo removed by laser.

I am a huge fan of this becoming a more popular thing! I understand why it is the same price as a permanent one, as the same amount of material and labor goes into it. However, that can be a barrier for a lot of people in considering the investment side of the price.

⏰I'm all for removing gatekeeping and like the accessibility of their shop. That part is cool. Not really sure about the fading bit. I definitely think it is a way to stand out and be trendy. The biggest issue with tattoo regret is not thinking things through before hand and the people with enough forethought to get a fading tattoo are more likely to be the ones to think through their designs and not be candidates for removal. Also, FDA approved means little if we don't know what the FDA approved those ingredients for. And ink breakdown is potentially a dangerous thing, depending on those ingredients. I really don't like the vagueness, although I get it from a legal standpoint. But many people will read more into it than is there and trust without thinking it through.

Seems sketchy. What happens to the ink when it fades, does it collect in lymph nodes after being removed from the dermis? Biopsies of lymph nodes of heavily tattood people tend to have ink collected in them as the body has trouble eliminating the ink so stores it instead. We don't really know if this is a benign thing or not as it hasn't been studied extensively. If a regular tattoo ends up with ink in lymph nodes it is reasonable to think the same would occur here.

I remember my dad a few years ago saying that he would have liked a legit tattoo that ends up fading, simply because he would have liked a tattoo but that the factor of it being permanent was a big deal for him, as well as he would have let me get a tattoo sooner if it wasnt permanent. I thought his idea was neat and suggested it in the french tattoo community and everyone sh*t on me and the idea. While i personally love tattoos for the fact that they are permanent, its kinda neat to see that they exist now and that there is a market for them. Its like a personal revenche against people who told me my idea was stupid haha

⏰ I can see why people want to get it, especially for those that are unsure if they want a tattoo or do want one but may be getting into a field where having a tattoo may interfere with success. However I don’t think I could withstand the pain, and more importantly, the staying still for it, just for it to go away

would they use the same ink as the ink used in medical tattoos like the ones they give identical twins?

I would be interested in getting a tattoo by Ephemeral Tattoo but I worry a bit about scarring since I seem to bruise easily as well. I have a fear of long-term "permanent" commitment so I think this is a good in between step, especially if someone is willing to pay a similar amount to how much the permanent ones cost. I am also keeping in mind the cost of travel too since I don't live in the places that these studios are located. Even if I can stay with family and avoid a hotel I will still have to worry about the cost of traveling. Overall I feel very interested in trying this out but I just have to figure out which design(s) I want to have tattooed!!

Meanwhile any stray dots of ink that were accidentally put outside my stencils are still on me years later 😭

am i missing something or if you get one of these don’t you end up with a faded and unreadable tattoo for a few months at the very end 😳 ? like to pay all that money for a tattoo that’ll have a few weeks of healing, maybe six months looking like a real tattoo and then the rest looking like crap but you can’t even wash it up or speed it up? 🤔

I definitely think that this is a trend that will remain very isolated. I mean who wants to walk around with a tattoo that's barely there for the majority of the time that you have it and have You have spent just as much, If not more for a tattoo that will go away. I think people that do partake in this trend will want the tattoo for its novel purpose so that they can say all this tattoo fades away. Just like black light ink or UV ink. It's a novelty item. But I do find it a little suspicious that they don't sell their ink online or maybe they do? If it was so safe why wouldn't they mass produce it and sell it online? Especially if they thought that there are a lot of people that would want to do this. Not many people are going to travel all the way to New York to have a tattoo that will be with them for less than 2 years. So why not sell the ink if it's so safe?

Would love a video exploring this idea of gatekeeping

Me too. I'd like to know how only white guys could Tattoo people since time began. And how women and POC's were never tattooed or tattooists ever. And how these Gatekeepers prevented these poor POC's and chained women from owning a tattoo machine and using one. Will be a great tale. Perhaps the greatest story ever told.

I'm on the opposite side, actually. I love the idea of it fading away, I wouldn't want to have something forever on my skin. For me it would be like I got to live and experience something meaningful and then the experience fades, like everything in life, it lived its cycle. Or something like that

I’m a semi permanent make up artist. I’m guessing they use the same pigment as we do?? Cuz the pigment we use are made to fade over the years

This is great for the people that like to get their current boyfriends name! Hahaha after the break up now you just go get a new name. I always thought, why do you get a name tattooed on your body? Now, there's an option for those. 😂 the relationship fades, and the name will, too!

The off putting thing about this is the fade period. You get about 5 months of your tattoo looking fresh then 10 months of it looking gross and like a weird bruise before it’s totally gone. I would rather just do an inkbox tattoo or a genuine permanent tattoo.

Seems super cheap to me considering they had to develop special ink to do it. Personally I like my permanent ones. ⏰

As an tattoo artist i wouldn't say there is racism between darker skin (in my circle) but its extremely more difficult to do a rad tattoo on a darker skin and you have to do a lot of other techniques so the tattoo stays rad-lively .Example: (darker skin gets extremely swolen just after some lines and in my opinion it takes more sessions).I just try to avoid them if the canvas want to do 1 session only. Sorry for my english.

Just shows how much of a disposable society we have become. This shop will thrive because most people can't commit to anything nowadays.

I couldn't spend my money on this tbh lol. The most beautiful part of getting a tattoo, for me, is going to my appointment, experiencing a special time and bond with my artist, and getting to carry that memory and artwork on me forever. The whole meaning of tattoos would be gone for me if I knew it would be gone in a year. The longer I have my tattoos, the more I bond with them. I couldn't stand the fact of it fading and - walking around with an ugly, faded tattoo for months?? If you love a design, why wouldn't you love it in 30 years? As long as it's not something like a name, a band, a show, a religious symbol etc, I don't see why you'd suddenly hate your tattoo in the future.

Black and grey realism has and is dominated by hispanic males of course theres great black and grey realism artists of all walks of life but it was brought to light by chicano artist in the west coast , traditional tattoos has always been dominated by white males , but i see what she’s saying
