Jayem Neo was manufactured by Jayem Automotives in Coimbatore based on the parts from Tata Nano Gen X. It was provided for fleet usage in Bangalore, Hyderabad and other selective cities in limited numbers only.
The Jayem Neo was powered by a 17.7 kWh Li-ion battery and produced 27 hp / 68 nm through a permanent magnet synchronous motor. Claimed to offer a real world range of 150 km on a single charge, Top speed limited is to 80kmph.
It was available as a single variant only with basic essential features.
Production was stopped as it was not very efficient to manufacture and lack of improved safety features meant it wasn't possible to comply with updated safety norms.
Now, as ABS and Airbags are mandatory, it is not going to be possible to modify the Nano body shell to comply with the ever-upgrading safety norms in India. So the Jayem Neo or the Nano EV will remain a rare and unique City EV, available only in the used car market. I am a proud owner of the first series of Nano. Of course without an idea, bought the non AC model. Even though my family, relatives and friends have different brands and models, I feel Nano is the most comfortable and spacious vehicle. The flat chassis accommodates 3 bulki persons (of course not too bulki) comfortably which is not possible in other vehicles - leave alone the costly vehicles. The only problem is speed. Driving at more than 80/90 is not possible. Apart from that, most comfortable vehicle for long distance driving. Practically no driving fatigue. Let Tata re-think of re-introducing NANO again.
Nano is always.. Tata fooled us saying it is the cheapest car.. but it is not.. it's most affordable and practical car in the world... Proud to be a nano owner. My nano is one of my loves.

I'm sorry but it's your understanding that is mistaken. You can see that myself am owning a Nano. This Neo was not a full fledged car by Tata but a temporary failed project by Jayem and it was clearly not well finished in terms of power systems and electronics. Did we say we need everything in 4 lakhs? Did we say we need luxury for budget price? Understand the context instead of blindly judging us. We are just asking the basics to be corrected which were inherently criticized on the Nano. Thanks

People care about pollution while driving more than manufacturing pollution so we can blame them for that? First government itself is promoting EVs so can you change the govt? No right?
