Don Quixote Pearl City has a spam musubi deluxe with kombu tsukudani and daikon. Gotta go early because they run out fast.

Iyasume Musubi Cafe was highly recommended when we were in Oahu! I wonder what your thoughts are since we only got spam musubi from the cafe and nowhere else.

It's hard to say which is the best. Some of the drive ins marinade the spam in a shoyu sugar sauce, so that reminds me of how my mom made it. I eat both 7-11 and ABC's spam musubi when I am in Waikiki for a quick meal. I like them both.

I think the best Spam Musubi is from the convenience store in Kukui Plaza. Its just so good! I also like the Ume Shiso spam musubi at Iyasume Musubi cafe.

I was taught that the way to make Spam musubi is to fry it in a pan and finish frying it in teriyaki sauce before taking it out. And after that to soak the Spam just a little in teriyaki sauce before assembly and this is how I think the 7-11 musubi was made and had residual teriyaki sauce on the rice and maybe why it tasted good. 🤤

7-Eleven hawaii gets all their food from a Japanese owned food processing company on Oahu. I think that's why the food is so good. Just fyi.

I would love to have Spam Musubi in Hawaii but if I could choose either one….the Spam Musubi/Sandwich (?) in Okinawa would be the one I would really want to try!

My own weird concoction. I like to take regular ham and mix it up with some Kewpie mayo and some Sweet Gherkin pickles I chopped up into tiny dices. Then I take a nori sheet and lay out some lightly vinegar sushi rice, put down some homemade rice wine pickled cucumber slices, and add the ham mixture on top. Then close the nori sheet up like a pocket and eat it. It is tasty. A nice mix of salty, sour, umami, and sweet. I have also taken Nori sheets and used them to make keto sandwich pockets. So I would take anything I wanted inside a sandwich and put it in the middle of the nori sheet and close it up into a pocket and eat it. Makes a great substitute for bread.

Great video! Spam, eggs and rice (with aloha shoyu on the rice), breakfast of local boy champions.

5:10 Perhaps they used the low-Sodium Spam? The taste is indistinguishable from the regular Spam, but less salty.

Excellent taste test. Question - If The American Military did NOT leave behind tons of canned SPAM. What do you think Masubi would consist of?

The original and traditional Japanese musubi we grew up eating in Hawaiʻi is the slightly salted rice formed into a triangle with an umeboshi (pickled plum) in the middle or some other Japanese ingredients. The Spam musubi became popular sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s (I remember making them for a school festival when I was teaching around then). I donʻt think they were sold in stores till that time, but people have eaten Spam (often with loose rice) since WWII.

I'm hoping we get this someday here. They're opening 2 Japanese ramen restaurants near where I work and 1 near where I live, so Japanese food is getting kinda popular here in Alabama. One of them is supposed to have ramen, soba, and udon noodle bowls. I can't wait to try them. Maybe one of these places will have spam musubi on the menu as well. That'd be great!😄

I’ve never seen spam musubi in the States but we make it at home (I’m vegan so I use a brand called Omnipork for my spam and it’s amazing!). It’s so easy to make at home!
