    hi have the same model note it was indeed of alot of work doing to the decks heavy wear all over wear the tape run i lost my otari 5050 mk3 caps were bad from when i got the deck the same with this model my model now takes 1/2 tape now i had to jazz the deck with tascam 38 parts to get it playing 1/2 tape as the cost geting it back to 1/4 would just cost big money i know alot about the 34 38 decks there are new fix for the tascam 38 main pcb they are starting to show breaks in the pcb after 40 year i have to make a video and use a voice changer as i sound very bad

    hi i left 2 before i have news if the main pcb ever goe's bad in any of the tascam 30 line the deck can be used as a player with using them pie mini computer i have one deck that is made of many tascam 38 decks if the capstan motor goe's bad it would be parts only deck BEWARE NEVER LET the capstan motor run right open the corr of the motor will rip the solder pads in side the motor just take the black ring with the solder points and solder the motor wires to the tabs with out the black ring i have a tascam 34 very clean but heavy wear all over the heads as you will not know this my deck has been jazz up to take 1/2 tape i had parts from a parted out deck my otari mtr 12 1/2 inch deck has tascam head blocks on it as i had to have a deck i could easy check used tapes on all the nice looking decks are not right for me beware i have seen alot over the years power pcb's do go bad it the pcb it's self you are lucky with this deck
