It's probably faster to use Tails to get 50 rings and enter the special stages asap than removing him so the results screens are shorter. They still could get less rings in some special stages tho, but I dunno

@@landfillbaby While that's legit, the special stages don't highlight any tricks that make them entertaining. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but if you're going to do the only type of run that includes the special stages, it seems odd to not put effort into making them as hype as possible. 🤷‍♀️

Uh, I don't think that's accurate. I'm pretty sure they've had multiple other Sonic 2 100% runs over the years and this one is simply the latest one that mildly out does them.

I remember always using a reset trick to get all the chaos emeralds in Emerald Hill Zone 1. If you reset the game, you get to keep the chaos emeralds you collected.

I love how the TAS has all the time in the world to fool around during the end of acts. Especially Mystic Cave Act 1.

When they almost ran into the Buzz Bomber's projectile in EHZ Act 2 while waiting for the special stage to open up legit scared me. I love TAS taunts lol

Sonic 2 is arguably *THE* speed running game. The refinement and small improvements over the years is so amazing. You should be damn proud of yourself, along with those other guys.👍

There’s no requirement for every part of a TAS to be done for entertainment.

I remember playing the mini games as a little kid, and I loved the special challenge I had. My GameCube controller was a hand me down from my uncle who was a hardcore GameCube gamer at the time, so the dead zone of the stick was Massive. Looking back now, I'd say I only had 1/3 of the total stick function of a fresh controller. Also at one point I remember my dad got mad at something while he was drunk and chucked my controller at the wall, which broke one handle of the controller and the stick fell off. So my mom taped up what was left of that enough to be kind of comfortable to hold again, but I didn't have any way of fixing the knob on the controller besides covering my thumb so the metal little stick didn't destroy my thumb (which I didn't do for some reason, so my left thumb print just doesn't exist 😂) childhood memories are so great

Scoring 1,000,000 in this game is possible but when can it be done in a future TAS? Only time will tell. Awesome TAS by the way.

Impressive, but our friend did a "mistake": In some Special Stages, he/she did take too much more rings than the quantity asked in the third tier of each one. Having the exact quantity of rings in the last tier of each Special Stage will help to save some miliseconds for the walkthrough from pressing start to the finish.

You're forgetting that Tails has some of the rings, and the score tally counts down for the both of them at the same time. So it doesn't really matter how much over you are, as long as it's not more than the double of what's needed. However, they did optimise it by having Tails collect some of the rings, so the countdown IS shorter than if Sonic had the total needed all by himself.

Since the run doesn't actually use Super Sonic, could there be a more efficient route to collecting the emeralds instead of getting them all in Emerald Hill?

The emeralds are collected in Emerald Hill because that _is_ the fastest route. It's not necessarily about using Super Sonic, just collecting all the emeralds, and Emerald Hill is practically custom built for that purpose. Getting that box checked in stage 1 allows you to focus on speed for the rest of the game.

The game actually hiccups and hangs a couple of times around 18:32. Wonder why that is?

It means the camera will (almost) always stay on the character (Sonic) instead of occasionally lag behind, like it would on the original.

It's funny how similar the tasing histories of crash and sonic are The third games are the first ones to get full completion runs Then their second games also get one And now their first games are all that's left

Unlocks super sonic before chem zone…never uses it. Who needs super sonic when you can just zip to the end 😂

I like the whole speedrun, except for the special stages... I think they are recorded extremely lazily. The main rule of TAS is to make even the most boring sections interesting to watch. But when I see how Sonic just running along one coordinate, it annoys me.

I also thought he was cheating turns out its common for speedrunners to spam the two spindash buttons on the genesis controller and that causes to break the game which can lead to going through walls things can't load correctly so yeah it's not cheating but there are speedruns with no bugs
