[TAS] NES Karnov by Arc in
Ойындар
This is a tool-assisted speedrun. For more information, see tasvideos.org/4340M.html. TAS originally published on 2020-11-22.
The game retells the legend of a muscular fire-spitting man called Karnov, employed by Scottish villagers to eat gypsies' babies and pillage their settlements. Except in this particular case, Karnov's full name is Jinborov Karnovski, he looks like an old-school Ukrainian, turns blue when hit, and his goal here is to take some kind of treasures from feeble, unsuspecting enemies. Later in the game he also grows a pair of wings and flies. In doing so, he strongly defies laws of physics, common sense, and notions of subtle Kid Icarus mockery.
This new version of Karnov TAS by Arc (tasvideos.org/Arc.html) is a 19.58 (1,177 Frames @60.098813897441 FPS) second improvement over the previous movie (tasvideos.org/1225M.html) by adelikat (tasvideos.org/Adelikat.html). Improvements come from better resource planning, routing changes, and optimization.

Nothing can stop Karnov's swaggering strut!
Amazing ending wow 😮
That boots boosted boss kill at 5:30 is crazy!
Love this game!
That ending screen was worth it.

Didnt realize you were being sarcastic until i saw the ending.
Que recuerdos muy difícil
Karnov takes a nice stroll.
Ahhh nostalgia, love this classic
I remember this game, but never had it. Interestingly enough, Karnov was the name of the first boss you had to beat in an old NES game called Bad Dudes by Data East. Thanks for the TAS =)

This game came first. In Bad Dudes, Karnov reappears as a mid-boss in some later stages, using the greyish color scheme from this game when he gets hit once. Still later, Karnov is the final boss of Fighter's History, and is even a playable character in the sequel, Fighter's History Dynamite (as well as the SNES version of Fighter's History).
That was actually fairly standard fare as far as NES endings went.
I remember playing that game and never beat it!
This whole concept is a Russian heroin fever-dream turned video game.
😮 9 minutos!!!!
nice!
balooooon
Whenever it be that Joel buys the license for Karnov, what do you suppose he'll do with it? Make an official gritty reboot video game, or pitch around a screenplay for a film adaption, also in a mature gritty style? I dunno, Karnov looks like that kind of game that would return in a gritty fashion, would it ever.

Can you imagine Joel doing ANYTHING gritty unless it was self-aware grit?
When I first saw this game on my friend's NES, it was weird to me. Mainly because I played the game on an IBM, and the two versions are EXTREMELY different. From what I've seen, the IBM version is a bit more true to the arcade original, though even the IBM port had irregular oddities. In the IBM version, Karnov died in a single hit. I must've had an early version of the port, too, as there was a massive glitch wherein if you defeated the boss, but started running out of time while the victory music was playing, the "running out of time" music would start playing while Karnov was frozen after the level. Nothing at all would happen until time ran out, at which point, Karnov would lose a life. I wound up timing my fights against bosses so that I would either kill them with loads of time to spare, or would deal the killing blow while the "running out of time" music was playing.

The IBM PC port was terrible, like most home computer arcade ports of its time. It was rushed and lazy, with choppy scrolling and bad controls.
What even is this game and how did it come to be honestly? I also really hate the noise it makes when you do damage to a boss.
Mizoguchi wins!
Glad I never beat this game. That ending sucked!
