To explain it (if needed): how most NES/GB/GBC game works physics-wise is when you go too far, you come out the other side. If the death barrier wasn’t there at the bottom of the screen you’d keep falling. It only applies to sprites and Mario went far enough off-screen to trigger the button to starts the exit animation.

This is art. I grew up playing almost exclusively this Gameboy game.

This was one of the few games my grandparents had, growing up as a child and playing on their Game Boy. I always kept on failing on 1-1, and only reached 1-3 the most.

Wait a minute...the beginning of the credit music (starting at 12:47) is a nod to the rocket launch music from Game Boy Tetris, from the same composer. Sneaky move, Chip Tanaka.

This is truly insane. This made me realise how shit I am in this game😂 yet my record is at level 4-1with 120.000 points. However, my goal is to complete this game one day, whatever it takes. If I manage to do it, I'll do an update on my comment. Great speedrun! I love your video. 👍🏻 Edit: I did it, I completed Super Mario Land with a score of 375090. Thankfully the batteries didn't die. I love you all!

Today is the day

When I was little I would play this game almost all the time, I got really good at it as well. However, I could never beat the seahorse part of the final boss, and I got pretty consistent with getting to that point, well, when I wasn't going to bed at least. I never managed to beat him, but I could tell, even my younger self, that it was the final boss with how difficult it was, but I never knew it had two phases.

Is 361 really the best achievable time on 1:1? I´m asking cause it´s so da*n close and i could swear as a kid when i played this game (let´s just say more than i should have lol) once i saw a 362 on my Gameboy. As a kid, i had no idea what speedrunning is, but the 361 on 1:1 allways bugged me like hell, so i played and played... once i seem to remeber a 362 at the endtimer. By now, i´m pretty sure maybe it was just some sun shadows ("blocking some pixels") on my gameboy or a psycholgical efffect that made me belive it, but i´m really curious. I´ve tried a lot of diffrent jumping, routs and i think almost everything that is possible to do on a gameboy lol

This was the game when many people treated Daisy as a stranger because she came from a weird land that only appeared in this game. Because they weren't familiar with Daisy, they assumed that she was a Peach recolor instead of a different character just because of how she looked and appeared in this game. Nintendo had good intentions with Daisy, it's just that the gaming community during the 90's was too stupid to understand Daisy because she came from a foreign land which many people didn't understand as it only appeared in this game. They got away with Daisy being a Peach recolor for the 90's because there wasn't enough proof of how Daisy was different from Peach as they were very familiar with Peach and the Mushroom Kingdom sealing Daisy's fate for major video game appearances during the 90's. It didn't help that Daisy didn't make the cut to Mario's Tennis on the Virtual Boy. I'm glad she is still in video games today, it's just that Nintendo of America being scared to make controversy thanks to the FCC and their back then stict policies were the roadblocks of Daisy's existence in the 90's.

When I played this game when I was younger, I think I eventually my all time fastest time was something like 15 minutes, which I don’t think is all to bad for someone who doesn’t speedrun all that much.

It's a TAS (tool assisted speedrun) which essentially means that the runner goes through frame by frame to get the best POSSIBLE time, weather or not a human can actually do it. I recon he wasn't killing those enemies by walking into them, but was instead throwing a fireball at the exact frame he touched them to kill I instantly.

Or am I always laughing at these tas video games video that they always do something funny random things for fun like mostly the Underwater and sky; Underwater: such as 3:41 (mushroom), 3:54-4:01 (Mario flickering around like he’s not actually moving), 4:13-4:19 (near the enemies), 4:20-4:32 (breaking the whole block), 4:33 (mushroom), 4:36-4:40 (offscreen), 4:52-5:02 (breaking the whole blocks; almost), and 5:02-5:04 (offscreen + boss kill) Sky: Such as 10:02-10:15 (circle around one block and near enemies), 10:20-10:35 (near the missiles), 10:50-11:07 (all enemies dead with star and get 4k points), 11:11 (offscreen), 11:13-11:15 (near missile again), 11:19-11:26 (all coins collect), 11:27-11:47 (out of place/glitch out), 11:47-11:57 (circle around two fire ball block), 12:01 (offscreen), and lastly 12:02-12:11 (quickest boss kill ever) There ya have it, my two favorite lvl mostly and laughing off a lot, I can’t be the only one

Mario didn't die. They used a screen wrap glitch where if you are pressed off the screen on the left side you can warp to the right side, beating the level faster.
