Well if you think about it, it does make less memory for the game to adjust so I do see what the point was in making it not go any higher or further!

I don't even think it was really thought about that much. If a "traditional finish" was just caused by one script that could be used by any minigame then it was probably just added as a security measure because, when you code, that sort of security measures make sense to make. I don't really think they even thought about this possibility when they put it in, as I said, it's a pretty basic bug fixing habit.

@Stain Think of it this way: you have a button you can press that will always do the same exact thing. At any moment, you can press it, it will do what it should do instantly. In this case, the button is what's called the "method call", or the keyword if you prefer (though never use this term in programming, it means something else!) that triggers all the events that lead to this basic ending happening while in a minigame. Now when you code, you need to constantly make sure that you account for all the things that can go wrong at every point. What happens if this fails to load? What if this value goes under 0? What if someone uses a technique I don't know about to do this thing before they are supposed to? (that last one goes a bit far and more worthy of a " game patch" for instance but you get the gist) What I was saying was basically that this "method call" for the "traditional finish" was probably placed inside one of those "What if..." countermeasure. You check for stuff like that all the time in programming, almost instinctively (especially when you're dealing with numbers). And so, I can't really imagine that a Nintendo programmer actually envisioned that someone could do it -- he only though about what to do if it does happen. Does that make sense?

The highest I ever got was page 35. I had a friend who told me that after page 50 the holes turned into Bowser shapes. I was never able to prove him wrong because I never made it that far, haha.

a book actually has three parts to it: the holes in the shapes, the words, and the covers. usually, its the holes in the shapes that are important, because they let us win. But sometimes its the words that we want. these let us read, which you will need to be doing right now to learn to build up speed. as for the covers, there's currently no cases where they're useful or important.

I think that getting to 99 without tool-assist is humanly impossible

You could always pause buffer.

Sort of weird how it's actually properly timed so you always can survive, and they also bothered to code it so it would end if 99 is reached.

I love how, toward the end, the pages' crashing sound effect is heard about half a second after the pages actually hit the pile.

...Well that does it. We don't need another Mario Party because Mario just proved he can't be beat.

This is really great. As the game goes on, what determines success is spotting the misaligned shapes in the upper pages, while also knowing where your character is, and how to move the character there. Nice reflexes.

Fun fact: the odds of getting the RNG necessary to complete this Minigame without RNG manipulation is roughly 1/10 to the 94th power, and this assuming you have frame perfect inputs, hence why no human on record has completed this.

are you sure? the only point it's physically impossible is going corner hole to corner hole, and I'm pretty sure that's a 1/5 chance each time of that happening.then again I don't know how to math it all out

This is a TAS, which means Tool-Assisted Speedrun. These have faster reaction times than any human and are capable of inputting data at a rate which would be impossible with a normal controller. Watch a TAS of Snow Whirled, or Control Schtick.

Out of all the videos on my feed this one was the most intriguing to me

One of the few mini games that gave me and my buds a premature heart attack when we made it past twenty pages. XD

Even though I wasn't the one playing and knew this was a TAS, it was still very stressful watching.

That book HAS to be saying something pretty interesting if each page involves the same 3 astrological symbols of the Sun, Moon, and Stars over and over again for 100+ straight pages.

This would make Buster Keaton proud! For any who may not know, he was a silent movie comedy actor from the 1920’s whose most famous stunt was where the front of a 3-story house collapsed on him, but he survived as he stood in the area of a single window through which he could fit.

The pages had to change fast because it was past Mario's bedtime. And maybe it was just trying to put him to sleep by squashing him.

Pages of the 6499 English Ivy Ct book will begin to turn (fall), so the players must find holes in the pages to avoid being flattened. Players can share a hole. As time goes on, the pages will turn much faster, & the number of holes in each page will decrease, to make the game more harder. This process continues until one character is left standing. In Mario Party 4, if the remaining players get flattened at the same time, the game is a draw; this is the case in The Top 100 only if all four players are flattened simultaneously.
