Tarp or tent? Both! Ultralight full mesh tent, pitched under a lightweight tarp.

I tarp all the time. My tarp is a bit heavier but all of the tie points make it very versatile.

My tent allows me to use just the rain fly as a tarp when conditions allow.

You need to make the footbox of the gossamer gear One tent bigger to fit 25in wide pads.

From South Africa If you have 1 grain of sense, you won't use a tarp here.... UNLESS you fancy living with maleria for the rest of your life......

The conditions for sleeping in a tarp are …. In my home game room with my grand kids lol. Outside ? You just have to be the idiot who thinks being miserable makes you coooool.

Nothing about coolness to it. It's genuinely just more convenient. Tarps are so much easier to pack, set up, and clean. You can be completely comfortable tarp camping in the proper conditions. By far my favorite camping method.

If you are camping closer than 200' to water, you're doing it wrong. Leave No Trace principle 2 says, "Protect riparian areas by camping at least 200 feet from lakes and streams."

There are plenty of established campsites on the water Karen, and by laying on the ground next to water all you are leaving is your footprints, it's not Portland 😂😂🤣
