    I've been using a regular ole blue tarp with bungees and para cord and clips to do basically the same thing, however i would tie out out to nearby trees, which was a bit problematic at times to find the suitable camp site with the right trees! I've just received one of these and cant wait to try it out!

    I bought that same tarp after spending an evening in the rain using a much smaller tarp. It gives a nice big area behind my 4Runner while still having the hatch open. Many set up options.

    Like that for my 4runner also. Did you try to make the tarp tent a stand alone, like in an emergency when rushing to the store for beer? Are there grommets for poles on the strap end? Thanks.

    2:24 when you're tying to the wheels or whatever. Look at that rear door. What if you could just open that door, toss in a strap with a buckle on it, but also some 'bung' a bulge that wouldn't pull through the door weatherstripping. Now you've just tied one part of the front edge in 2 seconds. Then on the other side: same thing. You're either done. Or inside you can clip the two straps together so you can open the doors without losing your tarp. And you're tarp is some useful distance away from that rear door, liftgate. You've also got extra fabric so if you open a lift gate later you won't have a problem. Just thinking out loud. And I think I'll do this to my tarp.

    I use this tarp as well. It is great. Have you seen the REDCAMP waterproof car awning shelter? It has sides that can come down to ground level. Also there is a KELTY backroads shelter that looks pretty good.

    My question with this kind of set up is. So after you are done sleeping and cooking for the night, you want to take your car out to explore, buy something etc. Do you have to take the whole thing down again? Is it still useful if the car is suddenly taken off the picture? Could you easily attach it to a tree or leave part of it on the floor and would it still work if another person were to need it?

    The only thing I don't like about tarps is having a spider web of guy lines stretched all over camp. With an awning you sacrifice some coverage and lose the different configuration options, but the convenience is hard to beat.

    Unless you have sides on your awning… you only get good coverage at high noon. With a tarp you can configure it to your needs.

    Are you able to close the hatch/trunk once it's set up? or will it fall apart?

  • @WanderlostOverland

    @WanderlostOverland

    2 жыл бұрын

    You can close it but the tarp does slope down when you do. We've since put a grommet in the center of the tarp near where the hatch holds it up. We can insert a pole there to keep the tarp up and tight when the hatch is closed.

    Do you have a problem with the back door opening completely when you pull the slumberjack tight? I used it once and in order to keep the tarp from flapping in the wind. When I tightened all guide lines. The back door would not full open. I guess if I were to leave it loose, it would not be a big deal. Did you have any problems at first, at all? Thanks for the video.
