Target fixation : Motorcycle riding tips

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A short video on target fixation, showing how your bike goes where you look. Target fixation is a common cause of people crashing on bends because they stare where they DON'T want to go and the bike follows the eyes.

Great lesson! thanks for uploading! Videos like these are of great help to people like us who do not have access to proper motorcycle schools. I live in india and we do not have a single mototcyle riding academy with qualified instructors to tell you the technicalities of motorcycle riding. I am a new rider and watching your riding tutorials really builds up the correct mindset and knowledge required for safe and effective riding. Although Indian roads are probably 100x more dangerous than UK roads but these lessons are still extremely useful. Keep up the good work!

@GlobalAgenda ....Number 1 is to be aware it happens and also get to know the scenarios it happens in. Then when you get to a situation like it, train yourself to say "look where I wanna go, look where I wanna go" Happened to me last month at Donington on the track, if it wasn't for me saying that, I'd have gone off the track but I trusted myself to do the right thing.

Did the same thing on a tour. Went round a very easy corner, took my eyes off the road for a split second and ran wide. Had to jump off the bike as I was heading towards the edge of a cliff!!! I was OK, bike had cosmetic damage though. Lesson learnt.

It has worked for me in reverse.. I was riding round a bend and a speeding Fiesta came round the other way over the double white lines, I looked at the gap and got through.

Interesting thing is... when I'm on a roundabout and leant over to the right going round it, then I get towards the exit I want to take, I put my left indicator on and take an over the left shoulder look for anyone who may be coming up my inside (rare), but funnily enough that look to the left is okay because I need to go left (ish) anyway for my exit ! :-)

Thanks for the videos and am finding them useful as a new rider. One question, is there anything thing that can be done to train yourself to avoid this kind of thing? as I've come close to the kerb a few times similar to this. Though it seems after watching a few other target fixation videos, it seems like it can happen to more experienced riders also. Thanks In advance

Keep accelerating in the corner while leaning and you’re gonna confuse it with target fixation. Freaking bikes can’t turn if you accelerate too much while cornering .
