Tap Dance TAP-torial: Learn a SUZIE Q

Hey Everyone,
Come learn how to tap dance with me, Shelby Kaufman!
In this tap dance tutorial (TAP-torial), I will be teaching you how to do the simple, yet stylized step, the SUZIE Q. This is part of my 3 Sound Series, where I teach tap steps made up of 3 sounds. There is a simpler version of this with only 2 sounds that I explain here as well.
Enjoy!

Great tutorial and very interesting to see what is the SUZIE Q step in Tap Dance.🤔 We have it also in Salsa - but there it's different..😀 I do a lot of *FOOTWORK TUTORIALS* myself. (also *Salsa SUZIE Q* ) Great to meet 👊

I found this to complicate the step because I was seeing you complete it opposite of what I would have seen had I been learning in a class.

That is why I do the close up foot shots from behind... so people can follow along like in a class. But I teach it facing you so you a) can hear me, and b) can see what the step looks like with the full body. Teaching tap in a video is tricky so I figured the more different angles I include, the better.

Hi Shelby. It'd be very useful if we have a speed reference for practicing steps. What do you think about a metronome? For instance 4/4 on 90, is this speed fine? Thanks so much in advance. Andy. July 2018

Truthfully, you are able to pick any speed you would like for any step. I recommend starting slow and building speed from there, but there is not a right or wrong where speed for a step is concerned. It just usually comes down to the speed of the music if you are dancing to a song.

I would be interested to know what your "bombershay" looks like. I realize many people call the same step multiple things, and there is not necessarily a right or wrong way, but I always like hearing what other people call certain steps. I learned bombershay one way, and I've recently been studying under the Dance Masters of America curriculum, and they do it differently. They call a Suzie Q they same way you do, but their 3 count bombershay is the same as your Suzie Q with the added spank.

I didn't listen to all you said yet, but I've learned these in jazz as bombershays and a tap bombershay is a totally different step, with brushes and heels....
