I really enjoyed my stay in Taormina. Not sure when I'll return [hopefully some day], but I wish I took the cable car down to Mazzaró/Taormina Mare. NEXT TIME!

I originally seen Taormina locations in the 1988 film “The Big Blue”. My first visit was in the mid 90s, the Corso Umberto is my favorite place in the world! Soon I plan to return with my fiancée.

Planning our trip to Sicily and came across your video, WOW, loved it. Thank you for sharing your time in this beautiful destination. We are both foodies and love seafood, so all the food you are showcasing looks amazing. I am planning the same itinerary, fly into Catania, stay for a 2-3nts, head to Taormina for again another 2-3nts and then head towards Siracusa. Wanted to ask if you think a rental car is absolutely necessary for Catania and Taormina? We do plan to hire a rental, but didn't know if we really needed it for our time in the first two stops. Would you suggest just getting the car on arrival into Catania, maybe too much of a hassle to return to Catania airport just to hire the car for when we head to Siracusa?

Thank you so much for the nice comment, it makes us happy to hear it! That’s a good itinerary, Ortigia is big so you will need the same amount of time as well. As far as rental car, for us it was not a bother because my husband is Italian so he is familiar with the system, the way people drive etc., so we like having the flexibility to stop and see places so we like having a car. Having said that, it was really easy to drive in this region although we were warned about crazy driving. If you can manage without a car, it’s really more comfortable because you don’t have to deal with parking, dragging your luggage from place to place, etc. it can get tiring. You don’t need a car to visit any of the cities because the historical centers are small and very walkable. If you want to take day trips, maybe you can get a rental car at that time. Hiring the car at the airport in Catania might be too much trouble since you can get it in the cities.

Thank you so much for your quick response. I am thinking to possibly rent the car on our way out to Catania and make sure our accommodations in Taormina have a spot for that so we can leave Taormina with our car and not bother to stop back into Catania airport. We will need a car since we will be continuing on after Siracusa on our adventure through Sicily. We are allotting a minimum of 18nts. My husband is a good driver and he has driven all our Europe, so we are comfortable with this and love the flexibility. Our last trip to Europe was last summer when we spent a week in Puglia and we loved driving around and exploring all those charming areas. Happy Travels @@TreknEats

Thank you for your comment, it makes us very happy to hear that! We stayed at the Guest House Le Sibille. It’s on Corso Umberto, the main street, so it’s a great location and it was surprisingly quiet, at least when we went. However, it’s a bit basic (no restaurant, etc.) As far accommodations, there are some expensive and famous ones like Belmont Grand Hotel Timeo and San Domenico Palace Hotel. More boutique kind of hotel: Hotel Villa Ducale, but there are many affordable options on Booking.com For restaurants, besides the ones we recommend in our video, you can try these ones: Osteria Rossodivino, La Capinera and Osteria Nero d’Avola. Hope this helps and we hope you have a great time in Taormina! October is a great time to visit Italy 😊🇮🇹

Thanks for your feedback, given that we speak both English and Italian, we keep going back and forth on how we pronounce things. Pistacchio in Italian and pistachio in English!
