    I don't think Groke fears her, but rather her reputation, neither of them have never meet and thus this is the problem. Groke is very lonely and has an obsession into objects, rather than living being to have something to cherish without losing it. I believe Groke could meet lady of the Cold with great interest and maybe have a common interest at least at something, but neither would be afraid of one another once they meet. You can face the lady of the Cold by just closing your eyes or having an blindfold to counter the effect, or just look at her feet.

    When I was a kid I used to find this episode, or the Lady of the Cold, very scary but yet fascinating in an odd way. I really love that Moomin was such a huge part of my childhood. The serie itself and this song is so well made, and you can kinda hear the mystic over the whole song. Ah, I love it. And I really love how Moomin captures a kind of scandinavian vibe, especially when you've grown up in Scandinavia, it kinda feels closer to heart.

    Imagine walking, through the forest. During winter, snow up to your ankles. Then you start hearing this very feint, barely audible melody. As you keep walking it becomes a bit more clearer and you realize you're walking towards the source, as you get a bit closer it's clear enough to hear the melody. It's of course this melody, and being cold, dark in the middle of the night snowy you're definetly freaked out by it. So you turn around to walk away from it, but somehow.. Even walking the opposite direction, the melody keeps getting clearer. You turn around to walk a third direction, same result. No matter which direction you decide to walk the melody keeps getting closer and closer.. and closer. So you stop and you dare not move a muscle. But the voice is still closing in.

    I'm starting to think Moomin had a bigger impact in my life than what I think... it's just so many things comming together, in a circle that I had never noticed... I like japanese animation, but little did I know this was the very first anime I ever saw. My favorite episodes were those like this one... with a haunting dark adventurous atmosphere, much like the feel I get now in many RPG and MMO games. This kind of music is also something I really love... and it's just strange, since this series was made by japanese and finnish people, and this song is SOOO "northly"... and so it happens that my favorite music band is a finnish band, Sonata Arctica. I know it's weird for me to say it, and maybe it won't make sense to many, but suddenly I felt a connection between all these things... like the missing piece of a puzzle, it suddenly clicked.

It's dark most of the day and the cold can be extreme, particularly in the northern parts of Scandinavia and Finland, and it's not for the faint hearted. Moomin characters often have those wide-open eyes, but the design of the lady of the cold is just so... bizzare. Three "Legs" which don't even look like they're they're from a living creature ending in little stars (?) that act as wheels, and then there's the fact that she's a real, actual threat, unlike the groke. There's no bargaining, just do the ritual she demands and she'll leave you alone. And then there's that song. it's not even scary, it's just haunting. And the fact that it just seems to play in the air around her is double chilling

  • @MrBeetlejuice16

    @MrBeetlejuice16

    In Sami culture the northern light consists of the souls of the dead (not just children), and is something you should respect and even fear. If you sing, make noise or taunt it, it would reach down and bring you up with it and trap you inside the sky forever, so many sami people would stay inside when the northern light arrive. I like how it's similar to this episode where Too-ticky and Moomin urge everyone to stay away when the lady of the cold arrives, because she has dangerous powers and will punish those who disrespect her.

    From what I've heard and read, severely cold weather saps your of your energy. Once you get the bright idea to "get a little rest and then keep moving", you won't be waking up. This is why staying mobile is equal to staying alive in the cold. In the latest 3D-animated rendition of Moominvalley, Moomintroll runs into the Lady of the Cold, who cradles him on the northern wind before tucking him in with a blanket of snow, but he is luckily saved from this tender death. A cold, tender lullaby of death.

    The Lady of the Cold is a supernatural being appearing in Moominvalley in Moominland Midwinter. Her appearance is described as very beautiful, but if she looks someone in the eye, that person will instantly freeze to death, making her similiar to mythological creatures such as sirens. Her cold properties resembles those of the Groke, though instead of frightening people by her looks, the Lady of the Cold lures people towards her with her appearance. moomin.fandom.com/wiki/The_Lady_of_the_Cold

    @@Unknown_crusader It doesn't matter what language she's singing in, the way you feel the music is how you understand it. This is the beauty of art - it's free for any interpretation, including the words in languages you don't know :)

    Imagine this... You live far up north in a Nordic country, and you have just made your way home, getting off the bus. It's in the middle of the winter and late in the evening and freezing (-25°C or colder) and not even a gust of wind. It is all quiet, all you hear are your own footsteps in the snow on the desolate highway as you make your way toward your home. Suddenly, it gets windy, and you can barely make out sounds in the distance, surrounded by forest. It gets closer, slowly. Now, you can clearly make out this song somewhere in the dark distance, and the winds are getting stronger. The asphalt is no longer visible due to blowing and drifting, and the song echoes more and more clearly and louder, slowly closing in to where you are, and you are alone...
