I do like the video, and you had many good points, but there is a major thing that many Wii tanks fangame devs disagreed with. You criticize certain aspects for not being closer to the og, but that's not why many people are remaking Wii Tanks. They are remaking to put their own spin on it, and improve what they thought was lacking, or add what they wanted to add. Someone in the discord said "I do think that just perfectly recreating the OG doesn't make too much sense imo, because it already exists"

I can see that. Some people might not want a perfectly made replica of Wii Tanks. The only reason I intensely focused on it is because of my own experience. I've been playing Wii Tanks for 15 years now (off and on of course). And I have become intimately familiar with all the aspects of the game. So in a way, I don't want it to change too much! Cause it means I have to relearn how to properly play the game. Which for me, is something I don't have the time to do anymore. (Running a personal business is no joke) I understand that not all others are like me, and going from Wii Tanks to TANKBOX won't probably be as inconvenient as it would be for me (not that it ever was inconvenient, but you know what I mean).

I totally agree. Being different should be a positive, not a negative. I also think that symmetry in level design shows a lack of imagination.

It's interesting to see how different developers and people have their own takes and tastes on the Wii Tanks idea - You have Tankbox, which seems to focus on being faithful to the gameplay, (EDIT: according to the developer, that wasn't exactly one of the main focuses actually - but I found the hats and achievements in Tankbox, along with the whole style to be quite unique and cool) Wee Tanks, which focuses greatly on the campaign experience (with all sorts of cool unique bosses and layouts made just for them), Tiny Toy Tanks, which has lots of interesting mechanics like magnets, spikes, hot blocks, and keys, and (my own personal remake) Tanks: The Crusades which focuses on modularity, extensibility (it's open sourced and moddable), and the editor

For Wee tank's mini review I have to disagree with you as you have your preferences of not really being here much to think. I know the game's very buggy, that's why we're constantly trying to hunt them down. We have an entire page of various bugs whilst trying to at least complete the 100th mission/final boss. You may not like wee because it's a slower pace but many don't mind so it should probably be taken with a grain of salt.

TANKBOX was my first game, made entirely by my self with no engine and no playtesters. Yet I have not heard of a single person complaining about bugs, actually have not heard of a single one. Even with it also having a full on multiplayer experience where I took special care into making each interaction be fair towards each player, letting me play with my friend across the world with it still feeling like a couch co op experience. Having prevalent bugs is either laziness or ineptitude. Have not heard of any bugs from that complex multiplayer system either. I took special care for the bullets, movement and collision code to be framerate independent, even over the network. We don't even have to get into the start of the poor AI of Wee Tanks. *BigKitty was kind to wee tanks considering the poor AI, level and game design.* I'm assuming its because he did not have the time/desire to make a dedicated 75 minute video ranting out an immeasurable count of issues. At that point its obvious the lead designer does not care (or can not understand) the true quality of their choices so they are likely to create equally bad decisions in the future. Constructive criticism is best reserved for something that you can already mostly get behind; having some points you don't agree with or think some work could be done into it. I greatly appreciated the feedback that was provided for my game. The envelope of map complexity was pushed too far for the stock campaign - that kind of map belongs in a custom campaign. I let it through because I wanted extra map variety. The provided musical feedback and contribution BigKitty was immeasurably helpful. The tweaks to the black AI were a great improvement, his push for larger bullet on bullet collisions were just what I needed to get past the effective angle reduction concern.

@@rumoi4050 let me explain why you're wrong 37:40 he says he prefers to not take it slow, that's fine, but that's HIS preferences, not a legitimate reason that the game is bad. Most of the stuff he lists is because they're bugs. This is active development, all out concurrent players are testers. Ok, what about the "illegal" portion? Black tanks leading their shots doesn't explain the issue nor is it really a glaring issue. What about greens moving when shot? That's recoil, if you dislike it feel free to tell us and we'll consider removing it. *like something in actual development* let's discuss the slow pace. Is it an issue? Depends on your point of view, he doesn't explain WHY he thinks it's bad and even lists the audience differences. There's no valid criticism with you either, poor ai, you don't explain that. You say it twice to set home the point it's bad but you NEVER elaborate, instead you rant on how the lead developer doesn't care about his project, again, it's a non profit game aside from donations. We don't ask money to play this game. There's no incentive to NOT care. And our progress is enough to demonstrate his love for the project. Putting out videos and playing player made campaign missions. Interacting with people in the community and taking suggestions. Want to know that the boss was partially created by the community and then evaluated by himself? Your entire thing about bigkitty hating this game is proven to be at least somewhat false unless he wants to prove me wrong. You don't elaborate on your issues and assume he's making a muck of the game when he EVEN says good things about it. Yes the controls could be considered valid but he never *elaborates on it* nor has that issue ever appeared nor notified to us. Hence your hostilities are invalid and short sighted.

@@tks2072 I never said BigKitty hated Wee Tanks. I was stating my opinion that BigKitty's criticisms were kind very kind, which heavily implies he does not hate the game. I'm not speaking for him - he obviously can talk for him self so you should be directing your questions related to his personal opinions to him. Also you are also self injecting hostility into my comment, it's understandable with the topic point. Game design is a highly subjective topic. There is no point in trying to change **your** game to match the opinion of someone who does not want the same experience you want in your own game. I (and I'm assuming BigKitty) are more interested in compact simple designs, like a solid game of chess. Design by coalition ( with no strong director ) leads to a frankenstiens monster mix of differing opinions amalgamed together. Which is more akin to a crazy whacky board game. Wee Tanks lacks enough focus to hit my personal desire for an experience, so I'm not the person you should be coming to for criticisms. Let me explain further that I'm not saying it's intrinsically bad. You don't need succinct design to be fun, it actually seems most other people find non succinct games more fun! Having no strong design council can let more creative ideas be expressed into the final product than a more rigid design would lead to. At the end of the day I am an incredibly pedantic person, I didn't mean to disrespect you with my previous comment.

@@rumoi4050 It's all good, just the presentation with the whole 75 minute rant and does not care portions along with some of the stuff said really felt like you were flat out attacking the game , especially since you listed stuff like poor ai which to me in combination with the rest of what I saw felt like an attack on a specific person and their creation rather then isolating the creation and just targeting that. It's all good.

This ladies and gentlemen, is how you have a proper, rational debate... I'll provide my 2 cents here so that no one needs to try and 'guess' what my opinions are -- For the record, I don't hate Wee Tanks. There are some elements of it that I really like! The survival mode in particular was one of the best parts in my opinion. I had many hours of fun playing that mode! And I *DID* plan on including more about the game in this review. However, after spending a bit of time writing the script, I realized that that wouldn't be possible without creating a movie sized review video. This video was already long enough as is. And I wanted the video to be focused more on TANKBOX (the game that warranted this review in the first place). When it came to the part about Wee Tanks, I had to keep it short. I thus, couldn't talk as much about the stuff I did like more than TANKBOX. I'm a very critically minded person. And I'd rather mention the things that could be improved upon vs showering the game in too much praise. That's just how I do things. I'd like to remind everyone that Wee Tanks has not been 'properly' released yet. By that, I mean that the game has not had a full version 1 release (I believe 0.8.5 is the latest). Bugs are an inevitable part of game design. More so when you use a pre-coded engine; even more when the game is complex! Make no mistake. Wee Tanks is complex! The different bosses, new gameplay elements, map layers, even the most competent coder is going to run into issues! To explain the "illegal" elements I was pointing out, the green tank's turret movement was very different than in OG Wii Tanks. OG Green tanks don't suddenly fire behind themselves -> they only fire in a 80 degree radius around the player. The black tanks leading shots is also not how they work in the original game. They always shoot behind you in OG Wii Tanks. For me, this is quite a change of pace. And thus, requires me to modify my strats on how I confront it. I'll be honest with you and me here, I know these things I mention are quite specific and subjective. And I'm not going to discredit that! I have a opinion, we all do! My vision of a Wii Tanks remake is very specific and will be different than someone else's! Again as mentioned, I didn't have much time to talk about Wee Tanks in the review. If you want me to be more specific, I'll have to make another video on it. And I honestly don't have time for that at the moment, expect it to happen in December if it does come to fruition. I prob won't make it though if people don't suggest it. So if you do want it it, LET ME KNOW! Also @TKS 20, You say that my speed of gameplay preference is "not a legitimate reason that the game is bad". On that note I'd like to poise a question to you. *What actually DOES make a game OBJECTIVLY bad?* You might say glitches/bugs, but I would argue that some people LIKE bugs/glitches as they can make the game more fun to play! In the same sort of way that the saying goes 'it's so bad that it's good'. The problem is that your dealing with human beings. We are terrible at being objective! Someone who hates something you do will always find a reason for it! Even if that reason is so obscene that it seems ludicrous to most others. -- Before I go, I want to mention that I did take a business marketing class. And what I see here is a difference in product design. There is a reason I didn't explicitly say I hate Wee Tanks, or that I just love how TANKBOX is made! What I did mention is how they are made for different people! For both @Romoi and @TKS 20, your objective for each of your respective games is to try and find out who those people are, and how to cater to them! Show others what makes your offerings different from the competition and develop a following for your market so that people will chose your game over someone else's! Make sure that you don't become like politics and complain why other options are so much worse. Instead, show why yours is so much better! In the end, It won't create such a divide between people if you do it this way. And that's something we desperately need in this generation! I hope this has provided some insight into my thoughts and opinions when it comes to these two Tank's remakes. Best of luck to both of you with your respective games! :)
