Nah, not necessarily. Barrel is too high in the air to be seriously damaged by the explosives. And too damn strong. In fact, it is allowed (although not recommended) to ram brick/concrete walls with your tank with barrel pointed forwards. Barrel moderately loses accuracy and that's pretty much the all for driving it right through several concrete walls.

@@LawatheMEid nnno, tank barrels usually have only thermal shroud/blanket around it which is basically Mylar/glass wool layers to prevent uneven heating from the outside (sun heats up top, bottom cools, gun deforms, accuracy is lost) and inside. It looks and feels almost like the thermal bags you can see in supermarkets to carry the goods frozen. And AFAIR T-62 in the 80s had even no thermal blanket yet. Liquid-cooling barrels are usually for rapid fire. Like, AAA 23/30mm (Shilka/Tunguska) are all liquid-cooled. Tanks just don't fire so often to need water cooling.

AM is the T-55 serial mod. T-62AM is autoloader modification, that wasn't produced. All soviet modifications of T-62 since 1983 have only M letter with any additions.
