Imagine seeing a big bulletproof vehicle slowly coming towards you, you and your comrades tried to shoot but it just making scratches, as it arrived running over your comrades, and then a wave of the enemies reinforcement coming with flamethrowers burning your comrades. Salute to the soldiers, alive or not, that fought in those hard times for us.

weird how they initially acted surprise (this battle took place in 1917 I believe, and tanks were already widely introduced in 1915) like shooting tanks with normal bullets instead of K bullets, and show signs of shock and of disbelief. Later on they handled the tanks like champs. An extremely weird sequence imo.

@@hwuntsu4425 the whole film is not to be taken as a historical account. It's fictional compilation of the western front. In reality, over the top attacks were rare (not daily occurrences like the movie suggested), tanks broke down frequently and we're not invulnerable, and flame throwers were not used how the movie portrayed.

Historically, the Germans were the first to use flamethrowers. And some scenes involving tanks and flamethrowers were exaggerated by the film's director to make this film more exciting. Despite the fact that in reality the tank was supposed to become a formidable weapon, this new weapon turned out to be worse in its effectiveness in combat. Although the Germans were scared at first and suffered uncritical losses, they quickly recovered and began to fight the tanks more effectively and achieved good success in destroying and disabling them.

There were two other options available, and one of them is the most mean and badass ever (Landship), yet they still went with the dumb baguette on tracks (you can google "Saint Chamond stuck in a trench" to understand why I call this tank utterly dumb)

Tanks were first used on the western front in the battle of the somme but they did not do too well. They were very heavy, quite unreliable and very slow. They average 3.7 mph so they really were not this dangerous. Howether i can feel the shock form the soldier first seeing this on the battlefield so they definitely did lower thier morale massively
