Tank Battles of WW2 - The Battle of Maciejow

The battle of Maciejow is one of many forgotten tank battles on the eastern front. The Panther tanks of the II./SS-Panzer Regiment 5 were defending the area of Maciejow when the 11th Tank corps attacked with 2 brigades. At the end of the battle, the Panthers of the SS Wiking division claimed to have knocked out 103 Soviet tanks for the loss of 0 Panthers in return. Find out more about the battle in this video!

This dude is too underappreciated by the community who are, in fact, interested in history but they only want to see or hear the important parts rather than hearing the entire story, therefore, having a completely one-sided opinion on one subject. Great job dude for doing this

@@jasonmussett2129 for instance, his video on Jagdtigers in the Ardennes in wrong; no Jagdtigers made it to the Ardennes due to fuel and road situation. The combat he described involved either Jagdpanthers of PzJager IVs. The unit histories that actually describe these units and prove it wrong are expensive and rare... no research was done, it is a common myth which Felton propagates. Making historical videos in time-consuming and expensive, both in time and money.

A VERY good documentary I must say. I knew that the 5th SS Wiking Panzer Division were one of the very best fighting units on either side during WW-II and this documentary proved that even during the long retreat from the Eastern Front, Wiking fought superbly. My compliments.

Lend lease Shermans were a common sight around Kovel.............in newsreel footage they were in the streets of the town, destroyed. The Americans supplied 4000 specially modified, diesel powered Shermans to the soviets, and soviet commanders had favorable experiences with them. The US also supplied 100,000 6x6 Army trucks (with trailers and fully loaded with war materials) which basically mobilized a large part of the Red Army. US lend lease was vast, and enormous in scope of technology, materials, vehicles and even entire specialty factories.

My great uncle was a gunner on a panther during this fight. He was seriously wounded and sent back to Germany. The rest of his crew died, except for the loader who somehow pulled him from the tank. I think infantry actually helped. At that time, he had 13 kills as a gunner.

Let us pray that we never have to go through something like WW2. My dad was on the eastern front and the few things he told me about that time were bad enough. But he never talked about the really terrible things. Those things haunted him in his dreams and I'll never forget how he screamed at night once his memories came back. Thirty years haven't been enough to process the experience and ultimately he became an alcoholic when he tried to wipe out the memories in this way. When finally I fully realized what he must have been through, he unfortunately wasn't there anymore.

@@TheAceDestroyer What makes me sad and angry is the fact that our parents and grandparents had to suffer so much before we could get to know something like peace and freedom. But now the memory of how terrible the past was fades away and it seems as if all the experiences of the previous generations have been for nothing. Today's generations grow up in permanent peace and therefore take it as granted. They don't see the danger of populists and nationalists splitting societies, such as in the US, or what it means when those lunatics destroy the EU and bring us against each other again. Present generations can't imagine what war really means. I'm afraid it's true what's being said: That you only truly understand it when you experience it yourself.

I know that my father and the soldiers he commanded suffered after WWII but, I realized that most of them moved on with their lives. He fought in the US Army against the German Army in Italy and in France and witnessed destruction of a US tank battalion in Italy with the Germans using 88 mm guns.

Thanks! I always try to tell the stories of those who actually fought the battle, that often requires me to go in depth. I have a few French magazines which always give good coverage of some battles. Together with books and the internet I put the puzzles together and make the script. Always very happy to see that people enjoy the content, so thank you very much!

Nice to know about these forgotten battles rather than the usual ones. On both sides. Somebody's father, husband, brother or son. This isn't about politics or the despicable crimes committed by the Nazi regime, this is about the men on both sides who died before their time. Will we ever learn? Big thanks to the Ace Destroyer for telling the story of these small battles where so many died for nothing.

Visited Kovel last summer mostly as a reconnaissance of the earlier spring battles from its relief by Viking. On my last day scouted around this engagement, as though out of scope of my studies, it is still an epic late war ostfront tank on tank battle. Despite having some familiarity then with the ground and fight, this video was still an excellent breakdown of the forces of engaged, disposition, manoeuvring and, outcome. Very useful indeed. Highly recommended and look forward to catching up on the back-catalogue as well as new output.

op Bagration was an astounding success but the ruse further south was NOT a total "fake out" of the germans since a very strong offensive was launched a mere 2 weeks, after "Bagration" was launched in the southern area where the germans EXPECTED the original assault. It is NOT that difficult to fool the enemy when your resources are SO extensive as to be able to launch offensives in BOTH places WITHIN a mere 2 weeks.

Excellent video Ace Destroyer about a remarkable yet little-known battle. I am a researcher of the Waffen SS and your videos are well-researched and serious,, 5th SS Wiking was a high quality division, and as a large part of the division personnel were from Western European countries it would have made little political sense to have the division fight on the Western Front, thus spending the entire war on the Ostfront. Best Books on Wiking are Strassner's Wiking Division and Trang's Trilogy on WIking in French, as well as the two Volume set on Muhlenkamp himself by Paul Oosterling. I have an extensive library and can recommend sources for you, Kindest regards

Thanks to Ace Destroyer and Mr Felton for keeping the memories and records of these actions alive. Please keep em coming. Are your presentstions of WW2 only or do they include more modern conflicts?
