Jay why dont the draw crowds! Seems like a gret area for baseball and the team consistantly is doing good

There are reasons why and this is somewhat of my opinion too. A lot of people love to hate the Trop because it’s uniqueness and because of its location (it’s a thing) It’s the excuse for a lot of people not to come. Second, the Yankees have had a history and fan base in the Tampa Bay area since the 1920s. It’s not all just New Yorkers who transplanted here either. There has been a Yankees fan base here in Tampa for a while. There are photos of Babe Ruth standing on Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa during Spring Training, and also sitings of him in St Petersburg where the Yankees used to play for spring training as well. Third, The average ticket price for Tropicana Field is a little higher than most stadiums. We need $5 outfield seats! It’s really expensive to park conveniently around the stadium ($20- $40 a game). Last, The Rays have had a 30 year contract to play in Tropicana Field with the City of St Petersburg that ends in 2027. Rumor is, it is such a great deal, the Rays are basically playing there for free. The owners are going to wait as long as they can until they break ground on a new stadium. I believe the Rays will be in Ybor city by 2028 or not sooner. Will this bring more fans? I don’t know, but I hope so. It’s going to take a World Series championship to get the respect of the MLB and a ton baseball critics out there who have continuusly hated on the Rays since 98. I think it will take another generation of fans to help establish a good fan base, in my opinion. Most people say they will come to Rays games if there’s a new stadium built in Tampa, but I don’t know…. . Part of me thinks that if they are true fans of the game and / or the Rays, there should be no excuse not to make it out to at least a game or two a week. Great question. Thanks for watching man.

@@TampaJay jay im ur biggest supporter man u see me comenting on all ur stuff by now lol to me this is how i see it. The rays have great young talent and they ply hard each game and there exciting to watch. Ive always been a big supporter of young teams that spray the ball around the field and win the right way instead of having all these big names with big payrolls that ate wxpected to win every year. The rays field for what it is isnt a bad place my any means. That shouldnt keep people from coming at all. My opinion is this as far as the attendance n field. If u are not showing up to attend but u love n support the team than obviously your hurting the situtation because everything is statistics now a days n numbers. No attendance means no interest which means packing it up n moving. Oakland a's right now r doin this exact thing which is keepn fans away which will eventually make them leave if they cant get a new park deal done. Im not sure of st pete is the right area market for the rays but i dont know im not familar eit the area. All i know is ill be there for a game this summer so ill see it for myself for the first time n couldnt be more excited

You’re absolutely correct, there’s a bigger scheme to all of this, the Saint Petersburg market is a lot different than Tampa. For instance, our Lightning have one of the best attendance in the NHL, and the Buccaneers… well, they have Brady! That packs in a few extra thousand a game. Baseball i think has really gone backwards with the rules n changes and its a long sit for people n the prices dont match up to that experience n its hurtn our sport that we love. Attendance is now down 45% from just 3 years ago. Nhl is growing on the orher hand i think. Ur lightning packs it out sue to the names that are on the ice n the prize at the end of the year that you lift it seems like alot these days lol. Blackhawks and u ited center during the great runs of middle 2000's was the same way there was waiting lists n now they are below .500 n the core group is gone noone is payn to see it. Tampa Bay has such a great stadium...I wish people went to their games more. Makes me sad to see their stands empty. DRays fans need to use their imaginations and appreciate regular season baseball more

Protip: I park for free near 3 Daughters on the other side of 275. It's a little walk but worth the scratch to me

Tropicana Field is similar to the Carrier Domb in Syracuse NY where the Orangemen play. They both have canvas rooves. The one in Syracuse is mostly to keep the snow out.

The traffic is on the bridge before and after games from people coming and going to work. I drive to the trop practically everyday (work there) and there’s always traffic after the Howard Franklin bridge usually from people leaving the area and merging

It's pathetic that Tampa people don't support the Rays. They are so fortunate that almost every year the Rays have a good to great team. I wish that the Rays played here in Chicago at Wrigley Field. The Rays would play before 35K to over 40K fans daily.

1. It's a pain in the ass to get across the bay with literally only three bottlenecked routes from the population center 2. We are dead last in MLB in people who live 30 minutes or less from the stadium, by a *lot* 3. Round 2 of the NHL playoffs was this night, so not the best representative sample 4. We *should* have gotten the White Sox, but Chicago politicians are corrupt and did not adhere to a deadline and literally approved New Comisky behind doors in the dead of night (it's an interesting story actually) 5. JFC just build a stadium in Ybor 6. Stu Sternberg is perhaps the worst owner in professional sports Thanks for coming to my TED Talk

Tropicana field is so far away from EVERYONE. Bucs and lightning have no issues. Tampa Bay has extremely high TV and radio ratings for the Rays. That's why they threaten to leave but wont because they see these things. Tampa BAY is not Tampa so the stadium isn't in Tampa. Although we appreciate St Petersburg for getting the team it's a smaller town that is ridiculous to get to from the 7 counties in the Tampa Bay area. Call it an excuse but it's true

@@jarvisfrederick671 I don't doubt what you are saying. But, here in Chicago if you are driving your car to Wrigley Field your in traffic 1 to 2 hours just to get to the Park. Then pay $45 to $75 dollars for parking depending where you park. Same length of time leaving after the game. Going to see the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field is easier because of Expressways maybe 30 to 45 minutes and cheaper parking. I'm sure that every Stadium has drawbacks. Going to Soldier Field for a Bears game is by far the worst.

Why the team shorten their name??

I gotta get off my lazy butt and go up to see some games (from Sarasota)

@@TampaJay I always complain about parking...lol. Just don't get it. Private parking ok...I understand. Parking sanctioned by MLB ...I want to buy a hot dog and soda for my kid but can't because I already spent $$ for parking, gas and tickets. Don't say it is for security reasons because no one is around when you get to your car after the game. It's a pet peeve of mine. Wish someone can explain it to me. I may feel better next time I go somewhere like Disney, festival, baseball game, etc.

Can't sustain a MLB club with attendance like that. What's the answer, build a new stadium (Marlins tried that and still no one shows up) or relocate the franchise?
