That song is one that my step mother, who is Serbian, can't stop crying over. For the Serbians, is a testament of all the hardships of WW1. It describes their journey from their homes to Albania, where the Albanians guerilla fighters attacked them relentlessly and finally they reached Corfu in Greece where the Greeks treated the wounded, buried the dead, and took care of hundreds if not thousands of Serbian children. 🇷🇸❤️🇬🇷

The Slovenes especially were driven by a nationalistic "revenge" against Italy and pushed over to Trieste claiming it as their own. (Even though it has 0 to do with Slovenia and was eventually returned to Italy, however many Italian cities like Pola, Capodistria and Zara were never returned).
