Ah totally remember this, I got mine for a Christmas gift in 87, loved that car so much, I still have the orig. chassis, just with a monster beetle body. It was run over twice in it's life time, but rebuilt and still can run strong today. Now if I can only get an orig. Tamiya Bruiser!

My cousin had a Tamiya Grasshopper way back then when I was a wee lad. I could only watch, from a distance and not for long. My cousin never let me try it, that selfish bastard! And then I got my 4WD Dickie dual motor buggie, and in "Turbo mode" it outperformed the Grasshopper. Never been so happy in my life since :). Good times...

I remember when I got mine for Christmas in 87' maybe? Was the first RC car I ever had to put together, finally finished in about three days... it looked awesome, charged the 7.2V battery and pulled the trigger, *poof* it caught fire! I had something in the gear box wrong... re-worked the transmission, bought a new battery and bingo! Had the time of my 16 y.o. life! Still have it to this day.

This is one of my favourite Tamiya buggies and it is one of the best and most effective promotional videos ever made for Tamiya!

i got a tamiya frog, blackfoot, and an traxxas slash, and the vintage blue eagle. vintage tamiya vehicles are the bomb

I have the Tamiya Frog!!! Used it once when I was 12 and put it in the box its in now (in the shed!)

Hahaha! Same here with the drive shafts, I was able to use a coat hanger to keep both rear control arms together and never had that issue again.

I roll with a frog....had it out 8 years ago....can't remember what its issue was....I think the "tie rods" that attach to the servo. I remember the speed control got so hot one time, it melted the solder joints on the bottom of it. I did upgrade the motor...something cheap, like a twister 4WD...just going from memory. The best part was switching out the pinion gear and the gear box.

I had the first one in the 80s, found the released kit with the new ESC , brought back memories.

@joss67uk I remember Beaties!! used to go the one in Southampton and watch these videos too.. could never afford to buy one new, but got a second hand "BlackFoot" that used the same chassis as the Frog. good old days when life was simple eh...

Hah I used to race these things back then... the dog bones stripped constantly, gearbox hit the ground, shocks would not rebound completely, this thing was a disaster... but it LOOKED FREAKING AWESOME. It is still one of the coolest looking r/c cars ever made... but performance well... not so good.

I am guessing you probably was not born yet when this came out. At the time this car was a very well made car compared to other RC cars out at the time. Tamiya cars were huge back then and one of the few that you could upgrade and replace parts. These were the cars to have way back before brushles motors and electronic speed controls. All three step speed controllers then. Your to young to understand

I have The Frog, I love it! But I really want a new shell for it which isn't the usual Frog style one, but there aren't any :(
