It's a BEAUTY mate! Why I love the supershot...here's my story When I was a kid the old lady next door named Clair on the bottom of her driveway it stopped and went down a steep hill into the woods with dirt rocks weeds branches you name it! All my friends used to come over we called it Clair's hill challenge, So they always came over with all different RC's and we all tried to get up the hill even my brother in law tried it he brought a big bear when I seen it I was like o no that's got to get up the hill and like all the other RC's before NOPE it did not go up! Then my brother in law came with a clod I was like man that things sick it got to make it up...nope it did not it flipped up and tumbled to easy! And as you can probably guess from your supershot video... my beloved low slung 4wd bad to the bone spike tires supershot was the only RC to ever make it up Clair's hill challenge!! and this is why it is one of my favorite RC's and is very special to me... I got the re release and painted it the same exact way as i did when I was a kid! check it out on my channel! it's bright green!

Fantastic to hear this story my friend 😍😍😍
The Original Hotshot was my dream car back in the late 80's and now the re-re sits front and center in my office top shelf on my desk but will have to get a super shot now after watching this video Glenn, just a superb shaped buggy and lots of nostalgia to back it up too simply gorgeous thanks for sharing this build with us all Glenn. 10/10 ALL DAY :-)
You described it perfectly Glenn. 'In awe'. That's how it was for me too the first time I saw a super shot. It became my favourite Tamiya that instant. ...and I finally bought one...32years later!!!

I just built it 4 weeks ago. Had one in my childhood. Upgradet with Superstock and 2S Lipo. Amazing Buggy. Love this. Great channel
That’s a nice looking car. The Tamiya model that triggers my nostalgia is the Rough Rider (Buggy Champ), but an unassembled kit is just way too expensive. That was my first model, I got one when I was in the Navy in San Diego.
Coolest 80's buggy by far for me. I saved up my paper run money and brought the original Super Shot back in the 80's. Paid a deposit and the rest on Lay Buy if anyone remembers that? It was almost a spiritual moment for a kid that loved Tamiya. Wouldn't mind getting one now problem is no one seems to have them in stock?.

Absolute stunner of a buggy, it's the most iconic 4wd from tamiya. I've seen a video of it running on 2S lipos and it was amazing, even with the extra power it handled like a dream.

Totally agree! My all time favourite Tamiya buggy ( In fact, due to nostalgia, my ALL TIME FAVOURITE of all - There, I said it ). And I have just pulled the trigger on a new one today. Can't wait to do the build.
I’m the same as you Glenn, this was one of those unobtainable cars that I spent hours drooling over in the tamiya Radio control car guide. It just looked so hard ass, it’s that metallic silver and lightening bolt together with the gold wheels. Just love it mate!
Superb Glen!!!. At my age that takes me back to that golden era!!!. It’s got that look about it.. like you say they completely out of reach back then!!. Brilliant🤣🤣🤣
Just brought one recently , my First foray into Tamiya (& RC cars since I was as kid). I wish I did the paint & stickers better. But love the look too! Having great fun with it
Beauty, and great story 🥰 I still remember the big wig that way....

Glenn, I agree... Most aggressive looking of the hot shot family and just a beauty... I have a vintage Super shot... With a mild restoration... It has some interesting Parts on it though. Someone put in mk1 Hot shot aluminum driveshafts front and rear and even put on the front bumper of the seam hot shot on it, so it has a really kicked up bumper... And even though I know the parts are wrong... Actually makes it look pretty cool... As always thank you for the video content you provide Glenn.
Thanks Glenn! Appreciate the back log here for sure!
It is a beautiful buggy and agree, as it is it is just perfect, no tweaking needed! I think they did a good job on the new decals for this one and would leave it as is also! And don't worry about apologizing for trying to stay on budget, I mean you are talking to a ton of guys and gals here that all have to do the same things! I know I am always juggling and walking that fine line of too much and not enough when doing builds! Now that I am doing it for KZread as well there is more pressure to do more things so that line gets even harder to walk!!! It looks amazing and thanks for sharing the build and the stories!

That's an awesome looking buggy! One of my favourites and definitely the nicest of the Hotshot series.
Finishing up one of these right now. Body painted but no decals yet. Lettered my tires in yellow. But otherwise box art. Feel the same about them. My father sold them in the 80's and as a 13 year old it was unobtainable!

I managed to find one for sale late last year, and it’s going to be box art. With the kit GT tuned motor. And with the rere stickers. Like you, I’m not going to change a thing. And I never leave anything alone, but this one is different. They are special enough as it is. And everyone doing the repro stickers, will take away from it one day being considered an “original” rere, if there is such a thing. That’s m2cw anyway. Great build and video. Your enthusiasm is infectious and brilliant😀

Hi Glenn. I'm like you. I spend a lot of time at the hobbyshop staring at the SuperShot back in the day. The only things what came close to it was Hop up my HotShot2 with the dual shock set. I bought two years ago my Super HotShot💪💪 I lover it. Nice to see you sort of same experience👍
God damn Glenn, that is a stunner. As i think i mentioned on here before, i received a Supershot as a birthday gift from my parents in 1987. I loved that car, sadly i don't have it anymore. Now i really want the rere. We have a major vintage racing bash event at my local club here in Melbourne Australia in October, maybe i need to buy 2 kits - one as a shelf queen, another as a runner. Keep up the great work on the channel 👍
Ive got one to build next Ive got the MCI Decals for it. I started a bigwig yesterday just finish that off while I'm watching this

Back in the mid 80’s as a teenager my best ever Christmas present was the hornet. I felt superior to one friend who had a grasshopper but I was very jealous of my other friend who had a hot shot. I agree it’s an awesome machine. Even now approaching my 50’s I may just buy one. Still have y hornet.

Absolutely spectacular and beautiful Glenn. I love it. I own 1 too mine is a rerelease but I missed out in the 1980's so I had to get a rerelease. Doesn't really matter to me though , I love the car and also I own a rerelease Hot Shot both cars are standard box art too and I don't have any problems going with box art. Also I reckon rerelease Tamiya may be better than a genuine vintage era kit that may be 40 odd years old.just look a modern ESC units compared to the mechanical 3 step forward speed controller from the 1980's vintage era kit.and battery technology is vastly improved over the old nicad battery packs from the 1980's also.i say good on Tamiya for bringing out the rerelease kits👌 anyway I'm a great fan of yours and enjoy all your videos keep it going 👍👍.
Yeah, the hot shot family has character. Look forward to about 3-4 years when I build my, hope the plastics have not become brittle.
Top work bud! Love the video. Cannot wait for the run video!!!
Definitely agree it's all about the memories. This is another one of those kits that really speaks to me. As good as it looks (another job well done) can't wait for the run video! 😎👍
Damn, that Super Hot Shot looks fan-bloody-tastic mate, you've done an awesome job👍👍 I cannot wait to see it running. Excellent video as always!!
The hot shot wheels and tyres look ace on the Terra Scorcher too Glenn, i put them on my vintage when i first got it...handled loads better on the tracks. When i get around to buying a re-re and refurbing my vintage i will be putting the hotshot wheelset and tyres on them....hopefully be able to get hold of the gold ones. :)
That's is absolutely stunning. I get 100% what your saying. I don't own a Super Shot yet but would love one in my collection. I have the Hot Shot as when the hype started me me for where I lived Australia it was the Hornet, Frog and Hot Shot that was heavily promoted. I only had the Hornet so naturally as soon as they were originally released I bought all three.
The one car I never had when I was young ..But was the first one I purchased and built and got me back into this hobbie over 40 years later ..Looks great mate ....Mines my pride and joy..
Love your channel. Ran my supershot re re at the iconic event here in the UK September, winning the B final. Best racing of 2021.
love all the hotshot series and this is definitely the best performing and looking but the original just has that special place in my heart. I'm starting to think it's better being genuine with the stickers, OG is nice but somehow feels like lying on a rere.

Another great looking buggy! I have an original hotshot that I am going to tear down and clean it up for display so watching these videos gets me excited to work on them! Thanks for doing these videos and keeping us motivated in this fun hobby👍🏻
I love this buggy so much I made a video on my channel talking about a race* I had when I was teen with my original SuperShot! Great job and I do agree that it is one of the best looking buggies Tamiya ever made. I also really enjoy running mine and it gets run ALL the time. ;) *- not an actual sanctioned race, but a gentleman's race
What a great looking car. I've said it here before but it's worth saying again. If anybody make a shell/create a after-market overall look that fits onto the TD4 chassis, I'd buy one. Thank you Euro RC and a massive well done on another great 10 minutes to content provider Glenn!
Great timing with this video Glenn. I just started restoring my first ever original super shot and even with 30 years of dust and grime on it it’s a beautiful thing to look at. I’d love to see a race between a technipower Super Shot and Technigold Big Wig!Great viewing as always.

Looks fantastic Glenn. I put those gold wheels on my Hotshot Rere and they complete the look for me. What a iconic RC and one that Tamiya should draw inspiration from for future TD4/TD2 models. I think the mono shock on the hot shot 1 looks mint but allows the body go up in acceleration unfortunatley. With worn front arms yeah its all over the place. I have replaced front top and bottom arms as well as the ball joints and red bushes. Ill be running the brace for the top of the front arms and shims. Well see how well go. Hopefully ill get a super hot shot soon!

There are things that cannot be improved. The shape is outstanding and is emblematic of the design of all cars in the 80's. The silver, red and black color scheme is also perfect. I've seen a lot of hotshots, but boxart is perfect. Keep it up, there is hardly anyone who describes the subject of eighties RC cars better. By the way, my Super Hotshot is also nearing completion. A few more stickers and it's done 😁

Looks great Glenn, when you add the MCI decals , to have them shipped to the US it’s almost 40 bucks depending on what you get . They look great when you’re done but it’s hard to justify the cost when you already have a set of decals.

There are so many steps to build this car that I have.
What paint did you use
People don't realise the levels of nostalgia something like this can create. Tamiya Manta Ray, not the best car they ever made. If they re released it would I buy one? YES cos it was my first ever Tamiya kit. Could I buy something better for the money nowadays? Sure. Would I? No.

Good looking buggy, the Super Hotshot. Is the ride height of the Super Hotshot/Supershot increased over the Hotshot? Unfortunately I can't compare them in person side by side. It's as if the Hotshot is lower sitting, perhaps due to the different shock arrangement? And how is ride height compared to the Hotshot II (non-Blockhead)?
