Great video, I still have my original Hot Shot and restored it with Original parts mostly:). The last time I ran it was after a mid winter thaw and over night a -50f degree plunge in temp. The snow was crusted on top and was cratered like the moon. I ran several batteries through it. One of the best surfaces I had ever run on. Good times!

I hate people wanting to drive RC cars, because this _invariably_ happens. They give it full gas and just at the point their brain is registering 'wow, that's fast' _your_ brain is already at "STOP! STOP! STOP!". People think they're toys, and they are, but they're _serious_ toys.

Love the video. I had a hotshot back in ‘85 and came with white wheels as remember when a guy turned up to the RC club with a new Tamiya Fox and first time we’d seen gold wheels, they looked amazing. Ahead of the Impreza rally car by a few years. Might need to get my 8yo son a hotshot now. Was a great car until the Mid Optima and Cat came along

My first was the Hot Shot second hand. Must have been about 86/87. Love that kit. Ran a black sprint motor, a ?techni plus? and then got my license sold it off. But I always wanted the Super Shot. So I picked up a Super HotShot re-re. It’s a shelfie. But it think eventually I’ll chase up another Hot Shot. P.S. I love the Big Wig too. Love the design shape and the colour scheme. I have only heard that they don’t run so great, the steering is a bit pants. But in an ideal world I’d have one as well! Thanks again Glenn 👍🇦🇺🤓

I remember when this came out in 85’. I was 14 and $200 for the kit plus another $100+ for the radio/electronics was unaffordable. Ended up with the Wild One instead. Not as good at all but that’s all I could muster up.

Great video as always, made me laugh a few times!! I never used to like the Hotshot, but it's really grown on me over the years. I look back on the mid/late 1980's Tamiya cars and buggies and realise how many great ones they made. I got my first ever one, a Boomerang, in late 1987, I'd love another one but at current prices I doubt that even my internal organs would raise enough money ;) Look forward to seeing that Hotshot running mate, but please don't use the gold wheels!!

Addiction by tyre sniffing 😂, i have always liked the Hotshot too but never loved it lol, same with the Bigwig, when you get to spring time and some nice sunny warmer weather maybe take a boot load of cars to the track and spend the day driving/filming them, that way you will have loads of footage which can be used over many months, and also you will be able to compare the cars to each other on how they perform.

Hey Boss.. This is gonna sound really REALLY strange coming from me, but of all the car/trucks I have had, even other units with this gear train system and there many of them, well, this is one car I never owned, in fact, I have never even seen on in a out of the box, factory set up.. I have seen a few that the owners modified. meaning, they removed the rear single spring & shock damper and converted them to a dual rear shock set up that the other units had, as like with the Boomerang for example, Seeing the all red and black car set up, and this crazy blue rear shock damper tower mount... lol... In a future video, if you show case this car again, Can to do a few shots of the rear suspension system so I can see how it works. What is interesting, over the years, I have poked around on the interweb looking for videos of the rear, and nobody has video of that flexing and showing the equalizer bar sharing or dividing the load from left and right side, into one damper... Even the pictures on the web do not show case this very well, I bet I have maybe 8 pictures that are detailed enough to "KINDA" see what is is doing and how much it is doing.. but, seeing that in a future video even if it is just a 5 second shot of it flexing, would be great.. No hurry, it has only been 40 plus years.. lol.. I just can't see my self going out and buying one, just so I can see how the rear suspension works, when I really wasn't a huge fan of the series of cars, even though I had several other cars that ran this gear train..Don't get me wrong, I had so much fun with the units I had, no question of that, but as you slowly grow into the desire for faster and more technological cars, these got pushed to the last of the line. I always liked the look of these series, always had a really aggressive stance, like they are ready to fight each other, like no others... Thank you..

My mate had one back in 87 when we all got RC cars for Christmas. His older brother wanted a go and drove it straight under a car on a main road and it got crushed he was gutted and I don't think it ever got replaced.

I hate people wanting to drive RC cars, because this _invariably_ happens. They give it full gas and just at the point their brain is registering 'wow, that's fast' _your_ brain is already at "STOP! STOP! STOP!". People think they're toys, and they are, but they're _serious_ toys.
Well Tamiya’s #1 car salesman did it again. I just placed an order for a Hotshot. 😁👍
i remember when the hotshot came out back in the day ! mental performance and grip over grass
Definitely one of my favourites. Always wanted one but seemed super expensive when it came out back in 85, well too much for me then .This is well and truly on my wish list. Thanks for sharing Glenn.
Really enjoyed this one. I got the hot shot in 1985/86, it had white wheels It was my first Tamiya, I loved the look but it would break so easily.
Now that's a thing of beauty........to nice to run!
Ok, so I just got home and I'm seeing your video. Of course you still make me want ... But this time, I have the Hot Shot !! So I'm going to charge my battery and take a walk. Thank you Glenn A +
Hotshot is the original, I will never forget the impression it made on me. Hotshot II is the best handling runner. ( Supershot never really appealed to me. ) It’s heaps of fun in the snow!
Just got myself a re-re and did same as you with original wheels etc. For me it’s one of the Top 2 Tamiya’s - Hotshot and 959.
I’m going to pre order a re release one of these , to me it’s a pure classic .
I wonder how many of us would buy a Tamiya new tyre smell scented candle 🤣

Actually, the used vintage smell of old toy grade RC cars from the 80´s can be awesome as well ;_) But that one will be impossible to produce...That´s why I hunted them down on the web during the pandemic :)
Love it lots Glen. Best Tamiya in my opinion.
Love the hot shot, love the trick shot 🤩🤩🤩
My original Hotshot had White wheels and there wasn't any coat of arms decal. It was exactly like the box art!. I did however swap them out for the Gold ones..... I really did enjoy that buggy!
It's funny about the gold wheels cos where I grew up out in the bush in Aus there was no hobby shop and the 2 Hotshots that ended up in town both had white wheels and that is 100% how I love the Hotshots and they are excellent looking cars!
The Boomerang was my first RC car that was not a toy. 😉
Had the original back in 85!
Hot Shot was always one of my favorites as well.

When I bought my Tamiya Fox back in the eighties, I remenber that the shop had both the Fox and the Hot Shot on display. I went for the Fox because of the gold wheels so the Hot Shot must have had white ones in the shop.

I'm pretty sure there was a whole, "hotshot gold rims debacle" with tamiya, where they sent out some packs with gold rims and others without. Some guy on tamiyabase .com explained it all...

Yeah it’s an interesting one 🤓👊🏻
They used to make those and the Thunder Shot in those little AA Battery powered snap together models that used small plastic wheels on the corners of the bumpers to go through tracks that were setup on huge table tops.... Remember those?
Love it! Thanks my friend. Gauranga :)
Yep, absolutely love the Hotshot, definitely not the best runner but just looks so cool. I would love a runner but I have a 3 hole mk1 that gets a gentle run around the garden. Great video, keep spinning those diffs 👍
Hi Glenn i upgrade my hotshot, short course truck rim&tire with 12mm hex. i took front bumber off. 19turn motor . i have more fun driving than factory tire .
The Hot Shot is in my TOP 5 favorite 80s Tamiya cars. Big Wig, Hot Shot, Boomerang, Wild Willy, Monster Beetle
Got the decal numbers right this time 😉 loved the JD shell version you had 👌

Great video as always, made me laugh a few times!! I never used to like the Hotshot, but it's really grown on me over the years. I look back on the mid/late 1980's Tamiya cars and buggies and realise how many great ones they made. I got my first ever one, a Boomerang, in late 1987, I'd love another one but at current prices I doubt that even my internal organs would raise enough money ;) Look forward to seeing that Hotshot running mate, but please don't use the gold wheels!!
Love the shot series my first tamiya was the supershot which I still have I have all three original's also both rere's, thanks for the vid Glen 👍

Yeah I just bought one. It's my first rere, and I got a sport tuned motor. It's awesome so far! Although it's got an issue where the rear right doggone comes loose and the suspension stiffs up. Not Shure what's up with that, but I still love it so far!
Awesome vid love the hotshot great car
I had the super shot back when it first came out wish they would re-release it again since they haven't done it since 2012.
An Addiction is Right on the money 100% i love my to the box art Hotshot , then i painted the roll cage silver and glued the roof instead of the zip ties as they look cheap ass to me but now i really like those dam Gold wheels , glenn youve done it again im in a trance with the gold wheels ive gotta get some hahaha but in all seriousness they do look mint on it but cheers glen and yes the rubber smell is AHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lol :-)))
We all don't Glenn. Loved the vid. Me and my lad made a hotshot 2 from re re hotshot parts and we died some yellow cvas red
Awesome 👌
you are spot on regards the gold wheels, my Dad was the sales rep for Scotland at the time so knew this car very well

Run it buddy👍🇬🇧😎.I definitely had white wheel's on mine back in the day..with blue battery carrier 🤔
Love the Hotshot! Always have. Funny thing with the wheels is that I prefer the gold while on the shelf but the white look better in motion in my opinion. Sport tuned motor seems to suit it very well but there are probably many other better options.

One of my "wish list" items for sure!
Great doing business/trading with you!
Such an iconic Tamiya car. I have my eye on one but not sure yet. And i can't be the only one that likes it better with the white wheels..
Yea I agree I always loved the hotshot best looking 4WD car there is in my opinion. Well done with the Gold wheels. Yes the super shot is faster and handles great but the original with the gold wheels is beautiful...
Looks epic
Had Hotshot back in the day, sure I put an upgraded suspension kit on it,that turned it into a Supershot or a Hotshot2,I can’t remember, but she was a looker!!!
Love it. Looks so good with the Gold rims. Here's one for you, I always looked at the boomerang and thought...."Hotshot 2". Aside from the rear framework and the covered electrics, they are pretty close IMO.

I'm with you on that Glenn, I love a Bigwig but would make room in my collection for a Super Shot 😁
This car was my introduction to tamiya cars
Hated the Hotshot on sight when it first came out 😆 Absolutely loved the Supershot though. Was on the verge of getting one, but then the Bigwig came along and 8.4v, plus VZ and rack & pinion put paid to all of that. Got a bitsa Supershot waiting to be built now though, so all’s well that ends well😁👍🏻
Nice score, cant wait for a running video.

Love the Hotshot. Love the rear mono shock design and the drive shafts of the original. But I’m with you Glenn the Supershot is the looker. Throw a Bigwig in with those two and you have a pretty awesome line up on a shelf!

Hot shot, fox and the 959 were the cars I lusted after as a kid! Best I could manage was a futaba fx10
I've just got a re-re hotshot kit can't wait to get into building it any upgrades worth doing while I'm building it
Be great to get some of those slow motion action shots if you do get it out there! What an iconic car! Cheers Glenn

Glen Snow in May!! move out to Calgary.. we haven't had snow on the ground since March!
Hi Glen if your looking for some basher wheels just use standard tamiya hex adapters and then any cheap 1/10 buggy wheel and tyre combo from eBay will do the job, I got a full set for my hotshot delivered for $20au
No, bigwig is where its at. When I was a kid and had my monster beetle my friend saved up and got what was considered the best buggy money could buy at the time and I was insanely jealous of his bigwig. Absolutely gutted I didn't get a rere before it was discontinued. I kept putting it off until another time and now it's never gonna happen 😢

Good trade! I swapped some video game stuff for an original Hotshot last year, still need to do some work to that car, I want to replicate the “Hotting Up The HotShot” article from Model Cars mag from back in 86 I think.
Admired this car from afar while I ran my 380-powered Brat with no diff!
Always liked the look of the hotshot. My teacher growing up in school (Mr. Gunderson) had one he displayed on his desk. For the life of me though, I can't recall if his had the white or gold wheels? I laughed out loud when you smelled those new tires. I do the same thing. 😁
Glad you brought up the wheels.. i was in a state of confusion, i have an original that i got from a friend that came with the white wheels...

@@TAMIYALegends . I need to find the drive shaft for the front...right now its 2 wheel drive ..and not sure if its because of that, but i feel the turn radius is horrible, im with you...i have one...definitely not in love with it, its just a piece in the collection puzzle...lol
I don’t know how he funds his hobby but keep it up!
Good work, hot shot is a legend, throw a battery in and let’s go.
I want to see one on the RC 10...that thing was unbeatable for my entire childhood RC run.
Glen, love the vid. You may be able to help me out. Do you know if the Hotshot Rear tyres will fit the Thunder Dragon wheels? I'm a fan of the Thunder Dragon and want to pick up a re-re, but the HS tyres with the tictac shaped lugs would look really great IMHO..
A close friend bought one of these new-back in the day/ He bought it in Oakville from Penrose Hobbies and he had the gold wheels; not sure if my friend added them or Mr. Pentose.
The biggest thing that surprised me about the Hotshot was my Pumpkin just ran rings around it.

I'd like to see the Hotshot in the snow, think it would be loads of fun!
Thank you..
Yes I did that to my hornets I sniffed the rubber it really brings back memories and anticipation of the car when you build it.
I thought the Hotshot was expensive, but that was prior to the Vanquish/VQS rerelease. One thing I don’t like is that the kit doesn’t include full ball bearings.
Hi you mentioned the MK1, how much would a good running vintage one be worth ?, was planning getting out my old cars this Bank Holiday weekend and if I remember I'm pretty sure I had one of the originals.
Love the Hotshot, but I’m with you on the Bigwig!!!
