Tamiya Electric Handy drill build and review - Toy Polloi

Sometimes you see a tool and know it is going to be so useful for fixing and repairing vintage toys. And this Tamiya Electric Handy drill was one of those. I saw it a few months back online and have been trying to track it down since then. Finally I found it on my recent trip to Tokyo and today it's time to get the kit built ( yes it's a kit ), and see how well it works.

The Tamiya board of directors are all giving themselves a pat on the back this financial quarter after discovering they can now get us to build the tools too 😂

“If we put ‘model kit’ on the box, we won’t have to pay manufacturing staff because customers will put it together themselves!”

It could do with some custom Toy Polloi stickers, Dave.

£15 is a good price but anyone looking at paying £40 might as well just buy a Dremel, much better quality and value for money at that price range

Can we take a moment to think on how meta it is, for Tamiya to make a kit of a tool to help make kits?

Awesome device and I might pick up one for myself. If you have any troubles with the Japanese manuals you can always use Google translate on your phone and it can translate the text real time while pointing the camera at it. I used it myself with some Japanese and Chinese manuals and it helps a lot.

And in the next video, he'll show us how to modify it to run on electricity for more power. 😀

That little tube of gear grease is adorable. Love this thing. Now make a drill press for it.

Nice kit to learn how basic mechanics work with gears also 👍

The main advantage is that it's slow enough that it doesn't melt the plastic you are drilling.

What a cool device. I love that it's a kit and would enjoy building and using one of these. I'll keep my eyes out for one!

Quite nice small tool. I could not build it. Or better say I don’t have the confidence to build it. But I would use it for my projects. Keep up the good work. Thank you for sharing
