Tamiya DT 03 Neo Fighter Buggy - Finished Build and 1st Run

Tamiya DT 03 Neo Fighter Buggy - Finished Build and 1st Run
I got the buggy done after some issues with painting, my fault for being impatient! It runs great and no issues with it at all. Super fun kit and a blast to drive. If you are looking for a first Tamiya build then this would be a great start. Now I have had reports of issues with failures on this platform but I think for the price and availability it is a really good option at this time. Sit back and enjoy the photos and running footage of the final product!

    Yeah, I was on the fence with box art or the retro look. Being a kid back then and having so much love for the old ones I decided to go with it! Very tuneful Addam!! 😂 I am a huge fan of this buggy. I have hopped it up and enjoyed every minute I run with it. Enjoy tuning it up and I look forward to the 1 year video 🙌🏻👍🏻

    My wife surprised me with this for Christmas. We have a 2.5 yr old and another on the way in '22. Feeling quite nostalgic and enjoying the beginnings of reliving my youth (vicariously) through my kids with slot cars, rc cars, model trains (my Dad's legacy). Growing up I built the Hornet, RC10 and RC10T (truck). Loved them, but fooled myself for 30 yrs pretending to have outgrown that phase. 😉 Great vids. Thank you. Keep it up. Happy '22!

    LOL, I am glad you did not outgrow the desire to go play. And now you have kids it is a great excuse... I mean reason to get some cool toys and go out and have fun with them! This buggy is a great one to build up getting back into the hobby with. The kit goes together with mostly one sized screw so you don't have a million different types and sizes. There are a few odd ones but it is mostly the one size. Also drives really nice too! I am glad you still have that little kid in you to want to get out and play, don't let go of that!! It works well on both Tamiya paint types and doesn’t hurt the plastics. I’ve used it on polycarbonate with no reaction at all to the body. Hi Addam! Great stuff, my friend! The buggy looks awesome in my opinion, you might know that this is one of my favourite RWD Tamiya buggies. The front end definitely needs to be soft as there is no weight up there and it's always off the ground when you accelerate! Sure is a lot of buggy for the money. First, sorry about the late reply. Your comment got held for review for some reason and I did not see it until now! I have not had any issues with mine but I was told be a few other in the community that this is one of the weak points in them. So far so good not breakages in mine even after a few rough tumbles on the track! I am sure I am gonna break something up front in it eventually and will look to upgrade when it happens. It really is a fun kit and it drives really well, a little light on the front end but that is somewhat common in 2wd buggies historically. A couple small self stick wheel weights in the nose really helps it turn a bit better. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out and I hope you get one, it is a great deal!

    I am looking to get into building a couple Tamiya and Kyosho kits, to add a couple retro style rigs to the collection. For one that is relatively cheap, and actually available right now.... do you think this buggy would be a decent kit for a first Tamiya? It will be displayed and be a conversation piece, and get occasional light use. We have bashers and race rigs for going fast or getting air time. One of the other kits I really want is the Kyosho Ultima... sadly I missed some of the cool re release kits like the RC10 ReRelease...

  • @AddamsPlayground

    @AddamsPlayground

    2 жыл бұрын

    It is a great kit for a first build. It has a lot of great stuff in it out of the box and it is a rather simple kit to assemble. The best thing is with these is there is not 20 different size screws, most of the kit is assembled with the same size and there are only a small amount of other sized hardware. If you are building a Tamiya kit for the first time I would pick up a #2 sized JIS (Japanese Industry Standard) screwdriver. One of the biggest complaints I ever see about building these kits is the "crappy hardware". It is quality hardware actually, it is not in a standard phillips tip format. They will work but often are difficult to use and can lead to camming out and possibly stripping them. I have put a bunch together with normal drivers without much issue, but just be aware you may have to dig and dig for one that fits them well. You can usually find the JIS drivers on Amazon fairly cheap. The only other recommendation is to pick up a bearing kit from Fast Eddy or TRB RC for it as you won't want to build it with the plastic bushings the kits always come with.

  • @isaiahfurrow7414

    @@AddamsPlayground, it would be our first Tamiya, but we have built and rebuilt a handful of AE and Tekno race kits over the years. Thanks for the tip on JIS drivers, we have somenof those so will be sure to use them. I imagine this or a similar kit will probably be on our list, along with a few other Tamiya RC models. One other question, did this kit come with oil or friction shocks? I have looked at a couple listings, and it is unclear or listed both ways. I don't have much desire to drive something on friction Pogo Shocks...lol If not Oil filled shocks, do you have any recommendations for a similar kit or any offroad Tamiyas that ARE oil shocks? One we also have onnour list is the Monster Beetle, as it looks to be a better handling chassis with oil shocks compared to the Midnight Pumpkin and Lunchbox kits which sadly are unlikely to end up in our hobby room due to being a bit too simple of chassis. Aside from just other kits that have oil shocks, do you have any advice on adding oil shocks to a kit like the Neo Fighter if it isn't built that way in stock form? Thanks again for the reply! Isaiah

  • @AddamsPlayground

    @AddamsPlayground

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@isaiahfurrow7414 the Neo Fighter kit should come with oil filled shocks and the upgraded torque tuned motor in the kit. The monster beetle comes with oil filled as well and is a good choice, a little too heavy due to the hard body shell but a fun truck/car. Another fun one would be the Blitzer beetle which is a cross between the two! The buggy is going to be a little faster and more stable just due to size. I'd say grab the buggy first and if you enjoy that then maybe the beetles later.
