    Wow, I never knew Tamiya had so many 1/25 scale armor kits. I remember the Tiger, Centurion, Panther, J.panther and T34, but never knew they produced a StuG, Pz3, M4, M40 or 155 Howitzer. Too bad they never reissued them, they look quite cool.

    That brought back some memories, the first Tamiya catalogue me and my brother had may have been the following year's edition as it was very similar. The catalogue we had a big section about their new release, the East African rally Datsun 280ZX. We made several Tamiya kits including the S.A.S. Jeep, U.S. Willy's jeep, Morris quad gun tractor and 25 pounder, Centurion tank and a M3A2 half track. Happy days. Thankyou for sharing.

    And on the 1/35 Centurion tank, my copy has a date of 1971 on the sprues. The original 1/35 M-60A1 was from 1970. The original M-551 Sheridan is from that same era, 1970-1971. Their current M-551 is so much better. By the way, the excellence of the 1/35 Tamiya armor led to that scale being standardized over 1/35. I wish we still had 1972 prices...

    Great stuff! Really brings back memories! First REALLY tough model I built was their Lotus 49. It was so expensive compared to everything I had previously built. It took me a couple of months to finish because I was petrified I would mess it up! I think I subsequently built maybe 7 or 8 of their models over the next ten years or so. Thanks!!

    Sorry, I don't want to spoil the party, but there was one catalogue preceding that one in the now typical Tamiya square style in late 1970/early 1971. And before that they had a brochure of approximately A5-format. The foldout in black/brown/grey and white you showed was included many kits in the late 1970s and into the 1980s as a bonus, as others have already pointed out. Nevertheless: many thanks for sharing that gem with the community.

  • @Sarah-JaneR32
    @Sarah-JaneR323 жыл бұрын

    Those leaflets you showed used to come in the kit boxes that's why there's no dates, they're not actual yearly catalogues as such, it's a forerunner to the the kit advertisemnets you see in some kit boxes at the bottom of the boxes. The ones I had somewhere were catalogues but A5 booklets. Love the old models and the nostalgia with the catalogues :)

    @@MOS6510Models I haven't a clue where they are at present unfortunately. I had a quick look online as I'm sure they came out in the 70's, but all catalogues seem to be the standard Tamiya size, I think they might have been quarterly ones, I'll have to do some research :) I only have from 1983 onwards, I stopped getting them at around 2008 I think as they took a lot of room up which I need for my model mountain :)

    It's a beautiful catalogue and I only realized now that some of their old kits went that far back. I also have that fold up catalogue but can't remember where I got it. I got the 1/18 Nissan R381 when I was a kid for Christmas and now I realized it was that old. I think they are making it again but not motorized like the original.

    Built a couple of 1/35 tanks as Airfix only done 1/72. One I do remember (It was a long time ago 75ish ) was the Tiger with the 2 motors in it. You had a 2ft wire coming out the back to massive hand held controller with 4 huge batteries in it. It was in my parents loft for years then my sisters kids got hold of it and the rest of best kits. needless to say they did`nt last long !! The kits I mean. I had a couple of Tamiya Kits, Must of been just after yours. The cover was similar... By the way, It`s post decimal.... £1.99 for the Harrier was quite expensive back then, Twice as much as a similar Airfix kit. It was worth it though, As the kit had more details, fitted perfectly and NO FLASH !!!

    On that folding paper catalog that you first showed, it was from the middle 1980's, judging from the M2 Bradley on the cover. Those were included with the kits at the time.

    My first Tamiya kit had a 'leaflet' in it in full color back in 1981. Seems like they kept those smaller less glossy 'catalogs' they put into their boxes in production into the 1980s based on the Audi Quattro and Ford Sierra on them. They had some pretty unusual scales then as well, like 50th and 21st scale, for some of their models, but the quality of the product could be seen as far back as then.
