Tamiya Boomerang Track Run

I took the Boomerang around the track the other day after the Super Sabre. Overall, it did well but I preferred the handling and the power of the Super Sabre a little more. Either way they both did great, and both got basically the exact same fastest lap time!

    LOL! Yeah I was getting annoyed with it a little, it was not as predictable and planted feeling as the Super Sabre was and it was a much more jittery and wild feeling. I hate smacking those pipes that hard, steering parts hate it even more! Glad you got a laugh out if it, it is funny now that nothing broke! Both of the cars did well out there and got the same fastest lap time. The Super Sabre did get a lot better average lap time though, it was much more consistent and stayed in the 10 and 11 second times for almost all of them.

    It did pretty well out there and it is good looking buggy! It was a little more jittery and skittery than the Super Sabre but it help its own and turned in some good lap times. Just not quite as consistent. I do not put them away dirty, these did sit in the floor overnight dirty but first thing Saturday morning I was down there cleaning them both up. They look good again and both turned in some great times so all is right in the hobby room! LOL!! Take care Larry and have a great week!

    Hey there Craig! It did run pretty well, not quite as smooth and composed as the Super Sabre. They are both really cool and great kits from the past. Sorry for not getting the board updated, I am dead set I am going to find those stupid magnetic strips and I am completely clueless as to where I put them! Knowing me i stuck them to something metal and moved it to somewhere else... I spend way too much of my hobby time trying to find something I know I have somewhere! LOL ! I am glad you enjoyed the run!!

    Thanks Mark, It did pretty good out there and matched the fast lap of the Super Sabre. It just did not feel as planted and smooth as the SS did. I know the shock are part of it but it could also be the motor difference to making a bit of a difference. Not a huge fan of de-mudding cars, especially when they just got built! Take care and have a great week!

    Yeah, I know, I just hate cleaning up all the mess! It is fun for the 15 minute drive but a lot of un-fun for hours trying to get them back in top shape! It was still worth it as both of them did really well out there! I spend about 1/2 may time in this hobby looking for something I know I have or the thing I just had! LOL! Those magnetic strips are around here somewhere and I know I put them in a logical spot, just cannot remember where that was LOL!!! I refuse to buy more as I know they are here! I will find them...

    The slow-mo at the end was awesome. Something about watching a mono-shock in action just makes me so happy! -- Interesting tip with the red/black o-rings in the shocks. I never would have thought of that. Now I have to compare rebound rates on the Boomerang v.s. the Super Sabre.

    I did enjoy seeing it digging in a sling up the dirt in the slow-mo shots! I do like the mono-shock buggies as it give such a different look to them over the tall towers of the regular buggies. The slow-mo footage is cool, you really get to see it throwing the dirt all around and the suspension working. Ugggg, the rain nothing will dry out! everything has stayed wet for a month now! I have not even been back out to look at my track yet, I know it is too wet to run on. Best wishes to you and the family 😊😊😉😉

    Hi John, I am glad you enjoyed it and you got a bit of a chuckle with the reaction to hitting the pipe so hard! That was me fussing at myself! I never really thought about all the left turns I make in the dirt compared to the one right hander on the carpet. It will be better once I take the big jump out and can run in either direction. From Now I have to stand on the up hill side and kind of off in the corner to line up the jump and see the other parts of the track. It is amazing I get landings done as well as I do as I cannot see it really at all! Take and have a great rest of the week!

    Thanks Mark, glad you enjoyed it! It did well, just a little more ragged and not as controllable as the Super Sabre was. I think the shocks had a lot to do with it and maybe even the differences in the motors too. It still turned in some fast laps, just not quite as smooth as the SS was. It is cool to see the older kits hanging in there and sometimes beat out the new more refined ones! Take care my friend!

    Such a sweet ride. Yes it would be interesting about the shock o rings. You nailed a few banked corners. Looked so cool. Big 4wd drift. Again the big block tires looked good in the wetter dirt. Bit squirrelly in the drier dirt. Still the 4wd pulled it through good.

  • @AddamsPlayground

    @AddamsPlayground

    6 ай бұрын

    It is a great looking one and I think with the shocks figured out it was be even better out there. The tires get great traction in the soft dirt and almost to much in the grass, I traction rolled it twice driving it around in the grass afterwards trying to clean off some of the dirt! They do struggle for grip on hard pack dirt though, the lugs are so stiff it skates on top and gets slideways! The Super Sabre was a bit easier to keep low in the corner and it just hooked up and drove out. The Boomerang was a bit more skittery and often hopped out of the soft stuff and up onto the harder stuff so that did lead to smacking into the pipes! Plus you screw up one spot you over compensate and end up hitting something else! Lets just say composure is not a strong suit for me while driving out there! Overall it did well and got a great fast lap but was not as consistent as the SS.

It has the same shims for the lower motor screw as the Hotshot does and there is a little play one way or the other. I think I just need to loosen it up and pull it to the other side of the play in it and it will quite down some. But yes, the Kyosho, silent drivetrains will spoil you a little! LOL!

    It did pretty well, it may be the difference in the motors adding to the different driving. It was a bit more jittery and did not want to stick to the inside of the corners and go up on the hard pack part of the turns and then the tires lost traction. Just a lot more to deal with but still got in a 10.04 lap so right there with the SS, just not as smooth. If it was still raining I could be out there with a boat! There was 4 or 5 inches of water outside the garage at one point yesterday! Thankfully is dry and windy today so everything looks to be drying out nicely.

Then I have 5 or 6 'go to' runners that I beat the stuffin out of..... I maintain them, but never clean them! Seems as though it doesn't matter where your viewers live, we are all suffering the same conditions this year..... ☔ 😞 On the topic of mud, if you go to my own personal channel at yoda darkside of Green Hawks RC you will find a couple of shorts from my monster beetle run this week....trust me, as a mud hater these clips will give you nightmares bud! 😂 👍 👍 👍

Can't argue with the fast lap time! I enjoyed the drive but hate the clean up! LOL! I am not a fan cleaning them after wards but it is a necessary evil! I do usually keep the nice kits on the shelf and take out the bashers for the fun and not worry about them being too dirty. It has been a soaker all over the place this winter, I know you guys have gotten non-stop rain over there. The folks here in the north-east have really gotten it badly, lots of flooding up there. First thing I need to remember to comment, I like how your dog loves that area in the background to the left. Pretty many of the videos, he's goofing around there, must be a great place! About the buggy: This is just great! I'm not a fan of the looks of these (either of them) but they seem to drive really well! I also saw same thing on Craig's videos, his did really well on Orchard Raceway. They seem to be easy to drive really well? Very predictable? How about putting a Holmes 17 turn Retro Sport in one of them, with the sole purpose to destroy the ten second barrier? Would that be a cool project, mud or no mud? You'll find those magnetic pads sometime... I got some laying around, too, just need to find them... But probably not cost effective I send them to you, ha ha!

    Hey there Mads! Our dog has a love/hate relationship with the RCs! She always wants to be out there around them but also wants nothing to do with it, it is like the hunter in her wants to get it but the sissy, snack hound she is, is terribly scared of them! LOL! They are both great running buggies and were fun to build. Maybe one gets a spicy motor and tries for the 9s, we just got a flooding rain yesterday so it won't be this week though! That and I am not looking forward to cleaning it again right away! Those suspension arms seems like they were designed to hold as much mud as possible! LOL! I know I have a huge stack of those magnetic strips somewhere! I cut enough of them to fill the whole board, I just am clueless where they got put. I looked in all the places I could think of in both the garage and in the basement. I almost bought more but I know if I buy another roll then I will find them right after I cut the new roll into strips.... might be the only way though. No, I think I can get more from Amazon much cheaper than international shipping LOL!!!

    Great to see the Boom running. They actually run and handle really good considering the time period they are from.

    It is a great looking one and drives really well too. I have to give the advantage to the Super Sabre as it was more consistent but they both got the same fast lap times so both are very capable!! Yes, it is amazing that these buggies from old school tech are putting down very fast lap times and handling so well still. They beat out the rest of the field of buggies and trucks I have run out there!

    "Dammit" lap 6 @ 6:07... LMAO!!! I probably would have used a few other choice words... Looks great Addam, non stop action. Are those tires the same width as the TT-02B wheels or are the fronts narrower? Asking cause I don't know and they would look great on a TT-02BR. Anyway, great video man!!!!

    LOL! Yeah, smacking into the pipe like that can often end up in broken front end bit so I was not pleased! There are times where I have had to cut out some other more flavorful words from the run videos! LOL! I have not though about trying these tires on on TT02B but it would be better suited for the track at the moment. Heck with all the rain we have been getting I'll need clod tires out there soon! LOL! I will have to check to see if they would fit and get back to you, now I am interested! I am glad you enjoyed the run!

    Hey Adam! Great channel my friend. Dumb question... Are the Tamiya oval block tires directional? My Super Saber will be the first set I've had.

    Thank you, I am glad you are enjoying it!!! Yes they are directional, they tires do have a rotation arrow imprinted on the sides to help you out get them on the intended way. I don't thing it would make a lot of difference in the drive of it but they do have a intended direction. Have fun with the buggy, it is a lot of fun!

    The gearboxes and a lot of the front end and rear end area are the same. The chassis and the steering are different. It i all part f the HS family but specific changes were mode to this, the Super Sabre and the BigWig.

    On the Performance side, the Boomerang will run laps around the Hornet. On the nostalgia side, the Hornet is a bigger icon. For the extra $30ish dollars I would get the Boomerang personally.

    I think they wanted the boomerang to handle a bit differently than the super saber because they wanted to give the boomerang different handling characteristics with the same shock set up.

  • @AddamsPlayground

    @AddamsPlayground

    Well they succeeded in making it worse. The Super Sabre was very planted and dug into the corners, the Boomerang wanted to slide around more and was not as settled. both did well and got the same fastest lap time but the SS got a better average time so it was faster overall.
