    Another reason is that if there is a loop or a knot or something on the back it could come out or pull through to the front Sara, so generally the neater the back the neater the front!

    you are very welcome- I thank you. As I continue to look about the net at work(wo)manship like this I feel lazy but heartened. I love the Arts and crafts Movement (England 1880"s-WW1) William Morris trying to restart the cottage industries again- he is the man who said "have nothing in your home that you do not deem beautiful or useful"- sorry Master Morris if I screwed that up- been up since 4am and need caffeine- very depressed of late and beauty like your work makes me realize there are reasons to lug one's butt out of bed. I haven't the dexterity to do what you do though. But I will watch more of your viddies.

    Have you ever done beadwork aari style? That is, with the beads or sequins loaded on the needle and done from the top instead of on the working thread and done underneath? If so, I'd love you see you do a tutorial on it. Most tutorials seem to be in Hindi or Tamil, which I don't speak. I haven't found one in English that's as clear as your explanations yet.

    Hi. Thank you so much for this video. 1. Can one use any embroidery hoop frame or must it be only a tambour beading frame? 2. Does one need a stand for the frame? 3. Can you use any shape of beads and sequins when using silk organza? 4. How secure is this technique? 5. How long does tambour beading last on silk organza fabric?

  • @SarahHomfrayEmbroidery

    An ordinary embroidery frame is good but hands free is essential so have a look at a table clamp frame: www.sarahhomfray.com/myshop/prod_4538062-Versatile-table-clamp.html You can use any bead that will fit onto the tambour hook so check them first As with any embroidery, make sure you start and finish your threads securely and with care of your embroidery it should last a life time.

    Thank you so much for wonderful videos on tambour work. Just bought my hook and am working through. I am wanting to learn tambour work to incorporate it into clothes. Can you advise where I can learn how to do this. I think I have to mark out my pattern pieces on fabric on the frame do the tambour work and then make up the jacket, dress etc.............is that correct? So hard to find courses in my part of the country.Thanks again for your very clear instructions. It's a new learning curve!

  • @carolinehomfray1830

    @carolinehomfray1830

    Hi Marysia, yes that's the best approach. mark out the pattern piece edges, and the seam allowance. Use a frame large enough to get the width of the piece on; you can roll up the fabric around the bars to make it easier to reach into the working area. Mark on the embroidery, and bear in mind for tambour you want to mark out the stitching line; the beads and sequins will be wider than this line. then sew up the garment; you may need to beads across the seams once they're stitched up. you can use a zipper foot to get round beading which goes right up to the seam. If you use a ring frame on finished garments, you risk leaving a round mark on the fabric. If you want to try this, unmount the fabric from the ring frame whenever you're not working on it. Good luck!

    So do you start your work with the bottom faceing up and the side you want to have your beads on is at the bottom. Do you have to do it upside down

    A novice beaded here. Is this tool and technique something that could be used to decorate Native regalia (USA, Native American), as an alternative to hand-beading (which is tedious)? I ask because I only ever see it done on looser weave type cloth (translucent), and wondering if it would work on, say a poly-cotton blend, used as clothing?
