I went to Juba for work in some time around 2010 as someone who's 6'6 and from a Southern European country - I've always felt huge, uncomfortably so at times considering the average male height here is around 5'8, I'd heard about how tall they are in South Sudan but it was still incredibly shocking. I was expecting to feel relatively normal but I truly felt small most the time. It was super weird. Extremely polite people everywhere too, as is well demonstrated and showcased in this video.

@Deez Nuts Yes, the least developed country but rich in its own way. If you knew the history, you would love these people for being the most resilient humans on earth. What is missing is good leadership, otherwise, it has the wealth that other countries don't possess🤗 remember that not everyone is malnourished, those terminologies are used by those making money in the name of South Sudan being poor. If today South Sudan gets brilliant leaders who are determined to put the system in order, they will first get read of all those humanitarian organisations in the country....those people they claim to be helping won't die in any way apart from being made poorer.

That was a wonderful speech at the end. They seem like wonderful people, and I enjoyed the video.

I saw an article about research in the Netherlands which looked at hundreds of years of data recorded in marriage registers. It seems to show that the height of Dutch people had been selected for over a long period of time. Tallness was considered an asset and arranged marriages between families had prioritised it, as had personal selection of partners. So tall people were more likely to be married and have kids and then their tall kids would also be more likely to get married and have kids. What it means is that tallness in the Netherlands seems to have been caused by selection and the people as a group had become gradually taller and taller. This could also have happened in South Sudan. Not definite, but one thing is for sure, the hot-climate-causes-tallness theory mentioned in the video has no legs at all!

There is a large number of Sudanese people up here in alaska and I worked with a bunch of ladies and omg are they the sweetest most genuine women I’ve ever met in my life. Covid shut down the place I worked and I haven’t seen them in forever and I truly miss them❤❤❤

I visited Gulu in Northern Uganda in 2009. I think that's not too far from SO Sudan. Love the people.

I'm a Dinka. I call BS on the climate explanation. It's pure pseudoscience. Most of our neighbouring tribes, with whom we share exactly the same climatic conditions, have a pretty short average height. If climate is the actual cause, they'd pretty much be tall too.

2:13 according to google and wikipedia, the areas of South East Asia near the equator have the shortest male height average of 5'3".....and that is a tropical area like South Sudan..... How did the Dinkas get a height increase while Southeast Asia didn't?
