Born and beaten in Millbrook Lawns in '71. Unfortunately moved out in '83. I love looking at these old videos of the old town. Saint Maelruins was my old primary school from '76. Think it opened I'm '75. Sean Rafferty was principal of the senior school and Ms Gelolgy, probably spelled that wrong, was principal of the junior side, little blast from the past for anyone reading that. Original number on the house we lived in was 367 Millbrook Lawns which later changed to 49 The Wood, due to the seriously major expansion back in the late '70s and wanting to differentiate between the roads. There was a shop which was where pretty much everyone went to buy their groceries, HG Williams. It's now gone unfortunately which is called progress. I sometimes drive through it and laugh and smile, thinking of the people who lived and shaped my life and so many others. Rest in Peace to those gone, my class and friends and people I knew are the aul one's now, but that's absolutely fine, I am happy, in a good place and I'm now a father. ( Jesus lads, some idiot put me in charge of human lives. ) and I've shown my kids places I've talked to them as they were growing up. In their opinion, it's a cool town, possibly humoring an old man, but regardless of them, my memories and what shaped me and what shaped me was Tallaght, and that makes me extremely happy for some reason.

I can reliably inform you that this was made in 1996 by myself and two others through Tallaght Artsquad on a budget of 73p. It was distributed to schools in the area along with an accompanying workbook.

Thanks for the info, and nice job for a budget of 73p haha. I picked up the VHS from Old Bawn Community School library in 2008 so that'd make sense. I just presumed it was 1991-ish era

Wonderful oral history of the area. Brilliantly captured in what’s now a retro style. Love it. Thanks for posting and I’m sorry I’ve only just discovered this.

I used to work in Kiltalawn House 1995 - 1996, it was a lovely building, especially that summer 95 which was a hot one, we'd all be working out in the grounds instead. I'd say it was a dark period for the people in Jobstown though because the buses stopped going into the estate after 4pm due to anti-social behaviour. I got that last bus every day, almost at the terminus and going into the winter there was a sinister atmosphere on that bus til you got out of the estates but the only thing I ever remember that shook me was the smack of a concrete block against the bus window close to where I was upstairs coming completely out of the dark, no warning. It didn't smash the glass but it gave us all a fright and if drivers were putting up with the likes of that, no wonder they refused to drive in there at night. I remember at the time it gave the place a really really bad name which was very unfair, because looking back, I can see this was just one anti-social element in a community giving the whole area a bad name.
