Tall Trees of Sam Houston: Boondocking Texas
Continuing on my travels through Texas, I found another good free camping location just over an hour north of Houston. Surrounded by tall pine and oak, it is a great shade spot as the weather gets hotter in the spring. Thanks to viewer Mark Lester for suggesting this spot!

I've been housebound due to health issues since 2004 and truly appreciated being able to travel with you. Thanks so much for sharing. :)
My wife loves the sounds of nature..and it helps her feel better..thank you from her.
Your voice has become a calm-inducing addiction for me, and I'm sure others. Take care Dad!

I appreciate the natural audio as well. Gotta appreciate the beauty of God's creation when you can. Safe travels!
Slim Potatohead, We enjoy your quiet time, with all the beautiful creatures of ancient times, the plants, the birds, the experiences of being a firefighter, (LOL) and doing your duty as a good human being. Thank you Slim. You do humankind proud. Our spirits travel with you on your journey. Carolyn and Colin Hogarth
Your video work on this one is really nice, Slim. Also, thank you for taking the time to put out (and report) a fire in our National Forests. While it may have been unnecessary, responsible visitors like you are always welcome in my book.
I'm retired & it doesn't get any better to start the week by watching/listening to one of your videos, brand new or otherwise.

Although brief, loved the flashes from the lightening bugs.
The sounds of the forest opened my heart. Thank you for sharing.

I'd actually enjoy just a fixed camera shot of the forest and 10 minutes of the sounds of the Sam Houston birds. And to see the starts of the night sky more. We don't get those views in the big city!!!
Hi Slim, yet again i find myself thanking you for a great video, and yes, you made my day. And congratulations on the 51K plus sub's, it's very much deserved.

And in August, you have 70K subscribers. Well-earned!!!
Yup. Texas is where its at. Only bad thing is our bi-polar weather. But it's cool.
Another great one,,, If you want humidity’s...just keep going East. And no...you never get used to it. We camp, but it’s usually northern Arkansas. We raised our 4 kids tent camping. Now we have 10 grandchildren and we still have family camp outs in the Fall. The beauty of tent camping is the fact that you are always together fo at least a weekend! Keep up the good work...I’m beginning to see great benefits with the A-liner!
LOVED the section of nature sights and sounds, especially the lovely bird songs.

And the fire flies!
Hey, Slim! Nice video. Those little aviators are called "lightning bugs" here.
I feel I should be thanking you, Mr. Slim Potatohead! Your videos are of a very high quality - both technically and artistically. I am grateful to be able to share with you, your adventures.
I LOVED the bird songs!
I lived in San Antonio many years ago and remember well that hot humidity. I don't miss it.
Thank you for caring enough to put out that fire. They should post signs where the do the control burns. Excellent shots of the forest.
I haven’t heard those bird sounds since we moved from NC to PA some 4 years ago. Thank you for sharing
You are blessed to do what you do.
I don't have a trailer and haven't camped in a few years, but somehow I got addicted to your videos... You've got interesting subject matter and great production values.
I too, look forward to your videos. I will often re-watch the nature ones as they are so beautiful and inspiring. The bird songs were the best music!! Thank you, thank you...all love and openness to you.
Quite an orchestra, playing out your way. The sights and sounds abound, enjoy your day. ☮❤♻
We call them "lightin' bugs". Glad you were able to be here while the dogwoods were blooming. Watch out for the wild pigs/hogs.
Yes you are the inspiration to begin enjoying the simple pleasures of nature. I just finished a 1300 mile trip to leave my van to get converted and because of you I took my time. Was amazed by the wildlife along the way. Smiled when you showed the click bug. I am always getting the bugs that come into our school and it always tickles me that some of the biggest tough students cringe away. Thanks for putting a smile on my face.
I love your videos, I love the outdoors and yes it does bring peace to the heart and soul. I thank YOU for bringing this to me. Your piece with pictures and birds singing was fantastic. I disagree with the Rangers about the burn being intentional why wasn't someone there to keep and eye on it. I think you did the right thing trying to put it out.
Your spirit radiates my friend . 😊
We really love your photography and also just playing the natural sounds of the forest instead of ruining with music.
.....the photography........the flowers........the bird song........such beauty!!........ the mind/heart of our Creator......our God!!........ \o/
Makes me feel relaxed every time i watch this nature video. Love it.
Slim, I love your sense of humor
You have the knack for packing more into a 15 minute video than others put into an hour. Always, always enjoy every minute of your efforts.
The beautiful Smogless Texas night sky. Thanks for the reminder!
Your love for outdoor is contagious. The way you handle every situations that comes your way be it be positive or negative is inspiring. Happy camping!
what I love the most about our vlog, are the shots around your campsite, the trees, the flowers, etc. keep it up.
No Slim! Thank you!!! I'm living my travel life through you and if I ever recover my health I wanna buy an A-liner and hit the road... Good luck and blessings to you.

Still got that eye for beauty. Thanks Slim.. you deserve all 50 of us
I have to agree, it just wouldn't be a good week without something new from you Slim. Another great one.
So many memories came back when watching you hold the lightening bug.... when I was little, my cousin and I used to play with them, they were everywhere in Cuba, my grandmas front and back yard was always full of wonderful flowering plants and trees of all kinds, and it was a lighting show when the sun came down. Beautiful, magical memories!
The bird songs were lovely and relaxing.
Wow ! Another Slim P relaxing therapy session. Your videos are getting better and better. Made my day again . Sincerely thank you Slim for your insights and entertaining videos ...looking forward to your next adventure...
Great video. We use the little plastic containers of moisture rid. When we move we put some plastic wrap with a giant rubber band we get at the dollar tree. If they tip over no mess😀
Another excellent video, Forest service is supposed to place A-frame signs out 48 hours prior to first ignition on controlled burns and leave them up for the remainder of the burn. Spring is a popular time for all our national force to do controlled burns except for the primitive areas.
I appreciate your channel and your freedom to travel. I can't scoot around with such freedom because of my special needs wife, a stroke survivor. But, watching your videos brings me some travel joy. Thanks. And, I missed the tip on that lift assist 2 x 4 idea.
Hey thanks for venturing into my back yard. I live in Houston and have camped in that area many times. I always like it when someone comes here and has good ideas for beating the heat and especially the humidity.
I think you have a good voice for commentary, but I do enjoy your trips so when I retire I can go to places you have been. Thanks , from subscriber

I love his voice & his great commentary . Makes it feel like your watching a National Geographic Channel or a Nature Show on PBS . I think Slim is missing his calling . He does a great job on every vlog he posts . I'm hoping soon he will be headed my way before the stinking hot & humid weather arrives here on the west coast of Florida not real far from Clearwater Beach on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico . His trailer doesn't have any a/c .
Your videos are the BEST! I usually watch them more than once. :D
It is so great to take part in Your adventures like this. Thanks for sharing great material and it just gets better and better. Greetings from WW2HistoryHunter
Slim, you have an extraordinary eye for framing and taking a photograph! Very, very nice. Your soothing voice adds to your videos and makes for a intimate viewing, as if I was hanging out with a friend. Very calming.
Hi slim. I've been watching for a little while and really like your style. Thanks for putting yourself out there. That takes guts. Your honesty, and sense of peace is awesome. I'll be hitting the road full time soon because I just can't do the rat race anymore. I live in Minnesota and love camping here. Happy camping slim.
Thank you for another wonderful video...birdsong, lightnin' bugs, spring green....all of it much appreciated! Journey mercies.
I started watching your channel when you had about 10k subs. I appreciate your ability to capture and present the wonders of our diverse country. Your unique personality and your special talents, both mechanical and technical, are refreshing and enjoyable to watch. I wish you all the best as you continue to share your adventures. Both thumbs up !!!
We're all happy to be your subscribers because you bring such a lovely experience into our lives. The footage of the foliage with the bird song background is incredible, as is the time lapse of the night sky, well done! Thank you for sharing your amazing journey with us!
Slim it's hard waiting till Monday mornings for your videos but there worth the wait. It's because you play the natural sounds with your increasing photography skills that I believe is why you've gone from 10,000 to 50.000 plus in such a short time. Love the simplicity
congrads on 51k plus subscribers. thanks for the show and tell adventure. safe health and joyful journeys ahead
Thank You Slim. The forest shots and sounds were great. The shot of Smokey Bear brings many memories of when I was growing up back in Oakland New Jersey. My father often dressed as Smokey for our town parade and a few times I got to dress up as Smokey for the kids next door. My dad enjoyed telling stories about Smoky's adventures.
Hay you are in my back yard. Just a few miles down the road. So you going to the Big Thicket, Sabine, Washington on the Brazos the first capital of TEXAS. Go see the Battle Ship Texas.
Once again you made my day. Happy trails to you
Great job...thanks for taking me with you! God Bless.
Thanks for the night shots and the silent part. I'm visiting your channel to relax from daily business until I can pack my stuff again and sleep underneath the stars.
Has anyone else say that you remind them of Marty Stouffer (Wild America)? That's not a bad thing. Rather a compliment. Keep up the good work!! Maybe I'll see you on the Mogollon Rim one day.
Talking about people breaking into your camper, you said "What are they going to get, a couple cans of beans?" I don't know you other than what I see in these videos but I get the impression that if anyone asked you'd happily give them a couple cans of beans. I've been watching a lot of your videos recently and just subscribed. High quality stuff without any drama. Thanks for all the work you put into them.
Well, another item scratched off my bucket list, finally got to look up Slim’s nostrils! 🤪 Congrats on besting the 50k subs Slim! You really deserve it! Thanks again for sharing your travels and experiences with us!

LMAO!
I love how relaxed these videos are
You should try Angelina, Sabine, or Davey Crockett national forest. Always some beautiful spots.
You've shown places that I'm not seeing in other videos that are definitely inspiring me to go further east than I thought I'd want to go. I've briefly traveled through the area but not for camping. I hadn't given much thought to all the great places to camp north of Houston. Now I'll add it to my list. Thank you!
I'll scroll through because I'd like to see your shower setup. Your enthusiasm is definitely catching and I love your sound wisdom.
You should be producing content for National Geographic Channel, because you are without being paid.

I'm working towards my goal of hitting the road every day! I just hope that after 50 years in this crazy world I can learn to slow down, relax and let it all go. Thanks for the inspiration, Sir.
Hi Slim, Glad to see a new video. I’m a long haul trucker and have slept near many of the places you’ve visited. I am highly blessed living near some of your favorite sites in Utah. :)

That bug that hops around I believe is the same one that is the lightning bug. If you notice on the video they have what appears to be eyes The Click bug has the same two dots on his back. That bug has the ability to flip itself back over with that click when it lands upside down.
Thank you for sharing your adventures with us . I do enjoy getting out camping as time allows and taking photos as often as I can .
Your nature piece at the end, your commentary in the final shot, and the sounds during your final talk made me cry I am experiencing America the Beautiful through your videos and it means so much. Melissa in New Zealand.
So beautiful and with a nice touch of humour.. you have a gift for sure !👍
I LOVED the sounds of the woods and you sharing what its like to "be there". I'm a huge fan of your wandering Slim!
I wish to express my appreciation for your hard work on these videos. I highly enjoy them and find there content both entertaining and informative!
Thank you to you for sharing your travels. Enjoy watching your videos so much.
What is nice is to see and travel around with Slim. Always have had big motorhomes and it's neat to see and experience the back woods boondocking experience. Keep up the great work! 😊👍
So I'm visually impaired and I heard (always intend the pun) of a group that takes bind and blindish people like me on forest walking tours to experience birdsong. Sense exploring is my favorite thing to do when camping.
Slim, your awesomeness is epic. Thank you for eveything you share wih us. Much appreciated.
My neck of the woods. Your are so right about the humidity
Wowee! Congratulations on nearly 52k subscribers, well deserved for sure. I would have put that fire out too, last thing any of us needs is a forest fire in the woods we're camping at. There truly is nothing like that sense of serenity just being able to sit and observe nature. Thank you for bringing us along 👍🌞🌞🌞🌞
love the nature scenes! great job!
and yet, another great camping trip. Thank you Slim - from eastern Canada
More of the requested sounds and sights of nature. Your mic and sound recordings are better than any other channel I watch and listen to.
Beautiful photos and the sounds of nature are so relaxing and peaceful! Can't wait to get out there!!!
Another great one Slim! The reverse is true as well. Thank YOU for sharing your journey, especially with such style.
It is definitely a treat when I see a new video from Slim Potatohead pop up. Thanks!
always interesting and not the same old,, whats for lunch etc etc. Great videos, you are the best vlogger out there with nature.
Slim you do an outstanding job putting these videos together. It is obvious that you take the extra measures other youtubers are unwilling to take. I truly enjoy your channel.
Thank you for the beautiful pictures and sounds
Congratulations on the 50,000 subscribers. You have earned them. Loved, loved, loved the forest sounds part of this video. Perfect. 👏🏻

Your videos are very much appreciated by me and a lot of people. They are beautiful, informative and relaxing. And another nice thing as far as I'm concerned, you aren't trying to "act". You are being who you are which is really nice. And congrats on your 50,000!
And I sir thank you. Stay healthy my friend.
I download ALL your videos and store the files in my laptop. When I travel in places there's no wifi or cellphone service in the hotel where i'm staying, I just drag ten or so Slim Potatohead episodes into my media player playlist, play 'em and just sit back and relax, while slowly sipping my coffee...aaah, this is the life!
