Yay- so stoked to see this video! My mentor always said “natural finish = natural wax” & to always use olive oil soap (savon) on lime finish to maintain the permeability & prevent lime eating the wax. Its awesome to see u showing the differences & types- thanx ron!

Thank you for this video- really gives you a better idea on how the coloring may change with each product. If you were dealing with a time constraint issue, which sealer do you feel is the most versatile and easiest, in your opinion, to apply. Granted, depending on the color and look you are going for in regards to sheen, do you feel there is one product/sealer finish that most clients are happy with(a “middle of the road” option)? I always learn so much with these videos😊

I have been in love with venetian plaster since 2019 when I first had the chance to see it for the first time. Time came for me to paint my living room and I was ecstatic to find venetian plaster in America. My husband and I ordered it and did all the work that is needed. We applied three coats of the venetian plaster and then I took on the task of burnishing with a trowel while my husband was applying last coat on some of the walls. The walls were looking really good with some small spots here and there where the walls were not perfectly straight, (but is what we had to work with). Because of some small imperfect areas after the last coat, my husband used a sand paper here and there to fix it. Then I went to burnish it again but it didn't make it shiny like before. He even used one of those electrical tools to polish it but I had to stop him because it was leaving some streaks on the wall. He said they will eventually cover when we were going to apply the wax. We applied a thin layer of wax (that came with the plaster) and he used the electrical tool with a different soft pad to polish it but it doesn't look near as shiny as other videos I've watched. I am completely heart broken because the end result is not like what I've seen and we don't know what to do and how can we fix it? Please help us and tell us what can we do now to make it really shiny. I tried to go over the wax with the trowel but it doesn't look like there is any difference? How many coats of wax can we apply? Please, please help us. The walls now are a little shiny, in some spots they are not that shiny, some spots have streaks looking like on top and overall it looks like there is just some grease over the walls after the wax. This is a desperate call for advise. Overall is looking (especially when the light hits the walls) like there are scratches on the walls and after the wax it looks like we just smeared lard over the walls.

you have to apply another layer of plaster and try to burnish again. wax dont make it shiny it just seals it. burnish what makes plaster glossy and shiny

This video helped me choose a finishing coat so thank you! I went with the soap and love how it came out. About 3 weeks after I finished my wall I got a small leak in my roof and the soap coat has water lines running down it. Any advice for how to repair the soap coat? The plaster seems to be fine

Looks great 👍 I like the beeswax but they all give great texture and finish. Question Witch venetian plasters do you sand with 1500 to 2000 grit to bring out the shine instead of trowel burnishing. other than the metallic plasters please

Hi Ron, nice presentation! Question: Which wax is more water resistant, Spatula wax or Decor wax?

  • @MB-to5gl

Slight off topic questions in the use of these four materials: What heat level can these materials tolerate? For example, can a soap or wax sealer be used on an electric fireplace facade or in a steam shower? If using an extra fine, filtered, creamy, Venetian-like textured Microcement, would any of these sealers have a similar effect on that material in terms of enhancing richness of colour tone?

I’ve noticed you use a lot of the same brands of plaster many of us use & would LOVE a video sharing your thoughts on the various brands (Novacolor, FirmoLux, Firenze, Meoded, San Marco, Color Atelier, Limestrong, etc) & which lines you like most.... I know most ppl are brand loyal but having experimented with most of those I do find there can sometimes be quite a difference- not sure if its based on the region of italy they’re made, how old the slaking is, or if its just manufacturing quality difference (some have very consistent micron grits in the marmarino offerings while others seem to be varied)

I’m a little confused, Firmolux is the brand that makes marmorino and the bees wax. If I’m doing a backslash I would seal with decor wax. That’s a permanent sealer, beeswax will come off in time IF you clean or wipe down

hey mate im currently doing a house in Bali. Due to the lime products not existing here, I have sourced quicklime from a mine, slacked my own putty, local workers are rendering the external + internal walls as i type...finishing coat is a mixture of putty and lime sand i have sourced also (alot of sourcing here to use these materials)...thin skim coat finish, steel trowel finish. Question is; what is a good natural sealant i could use externally especially as a water repellant that is suitable and breathable product for lime plastering? I would most likely have to use a natural product as not much is available here. There are limestone tile sealants (chemical base)?...any thoughts how i could problem solve here? Wet season is really wet here, none wet season is hot...

Hi, a limestone tile sealer should work, I’d make a sample first and check for c compatibility and longevity I’ve used similar types of sealers on floors and it had no issue

Hi Ron, I used the Savon finish behind a sink and it has stains from soapy water (looks like permanent water drops). Otherwise the soap finish is very water resistant from the steamy bathroom. Which sealer would you say is the best for high-use areas for preventing stains?

You know the soap wax works as a waterproof layer if it goes on a not quite dry base?? The stearic acid in the soap reacts with the lime plaster and forms a water repellent layer. But the lime needs to be slightly hydrated
