Gotta' shred those scales! Gotta' play them slow and thoughtfully too. Also that orange shirt goes great with the turquoise bass, couldn't help but notice.

If you watch closely you will notice one of the reason she gets such a solid clear string-note tone and sound is her finger placement is similar to playing fretless bass which is as close to the fretted bar as she can get (playing fretless is played on fretted bar). This allows superb clean notes on string reducing any extraneous string noise when noted. Yes playing anywhere in fret will give the associated note but will also allow unwanted noises (poor finger pressure) and inconsistencies in note-sound quality. You can tell Ari, from 1000s of hours of playing has very strong and accurate finger dexterity-placement and technic quality when she plays.I love watching her relaxed and isolated playing! She knows where she's going before going there!

Alternating Right hand fingers while both ascending and descending could be the reason for such strong tone. Raking while descending through scales gives a lighter and somewhat softer tone

your pinkie lands in the middle of the fret in your finger per fret playing here. I struggle with this on a fretless(painted frets) because finger in the middle sounds out of tune. My hands are bigger than average, what would you suggest?

Amazing teacher. Qestion: if we do the same exercise ascending and descending in 2th, 4th, 5th....13th it will contain the digitation of any existing baseline?

What is the Right hand technique you use for this exercise and generally? If you could break it down that would be a plus because most youtubers forget about the right hand completely in their lessons. Great lesson by the way.

Anybody know if Ariana talks about her signal chain at all? Her tone is always deliciously full but clear. Probably some DI signal blended in but I need to know!

I'm the guy doing the sound for these videos. You're correct, it's a mix between what the room mic picks up (an AKG C414) from a small TC amp and direct signal from an Allen&Heath XB10 mixer. I then treat it with various plugins: Fabfilter EQ + Multiband compressor, Saturn (for saturation), Uhe Satin for tape emulation.

saying notes out loud...while you're at, SING them before you play them. It will boost your ears tremendously. (just make sure there's no one around if you're a terrible singer...like me)

ziggybass ziggybass: you can always pause the video, work on what's being taught, then go back to the vid and keep going until you feel you've grasped the information. that's what I've done in the past and it does help.
