Orin's mother tried to kill her as a baby, Gortash was sold to a warlock, Ketheric's daugther was killed and he was manipulated into dooming his people and his entire land. All broken people, to be used by the Dead three. That's the extend of my sympathy ofc, still doesn't excuse the people they became in the end. But it does put things into perspective

Orin was fucked anyway even if she had a cushy home life. Bhaal isn't like Bane or Myrkul whose chosen are put on fairly loose leashes, Bhaal requires a sense of intimacy. You don't need to be psychopathic to command the dead or to be a tyrant. But to be a murderer is to desire the blood of someone and act on it. It's a twisted deed, Orin and the Dark Urge are both cruel and comical in their desire to kill. When you kick the squirrel into a tree, you make a little rhyme of it before acting instantly.

@@loserinasuit7880 Orin was not fucked up from the start. She grew up in a MURDER CULT. She has shown other predispotitions besides murder, like art (She leaves a painting of herself if she kills Zevlor and finds a twisted beauty in her murders, contrary to Bhaal who doesn't believe in such "nonsense" and just wants his followers to kill) and she has a capacity to love others in her own way with the main example being her grandfather, Sarevok, who mistreated her and her mother, and even so she loved him, to the point that she breaks and has a meltdown if you tell her how Sarevok was the man who ordered her mother to kill her, a reaction that shows how painful that event was for her and how desperately she wanted a genuine connection in her life. Orin was brainwashed since she was born and has faced HORRIFIC trauma, hence why, one of the main narratives of this game is Nature vs Nurture; Orin didn't have a natural predisposition to be a bad person, her circumstanes made her so, as it happened to Gortash and Ketheric, and that's why the three chosens are such good villains, because they are sympathetic but not excusable. And about Orin's bhaalspawn nature: many bhaalspawn have become good people, most do, some even not showing any murderous signs at all (Imoen, from the old Baldur's Gate games, for example). Bhaalpawn are not a 100% guarantee that they will become murderers and [SPOILERS DARK URGE]: even Oathbreaker Paladin Durge once joined a paladin order to fight these urges and do good, but they ended up succumbing to their urges and giving up on fighting them. Durge, the most perfect bhaalspawn created directly from Bhaal's essence, was trying to be good at some point in their lives and can be good again after losing their memories. Even Sceleritas says that Durge had a predisposition to be misdirected without his guidence, which shows that Bhaal had to send a butler to control them and manipulate them in some way to follow his wims. All these stories are written to guide one of the main narratives of this main game; Nature vs Nurture, to show that it's the circumstances that shaped all these villains and bad people, not their inherent nature.

@@loserinasuit7880 That's not what I said when I mentioned Orin's art, read again; I mentioned it to show that her true nature is not inherently evil and based on the service of the Lord of Murder but that she has other things going on in her life and personality, that she could've nurtured her artistic skills in a different more positive way if she wasn't born in the circumstances she did. She IS a tormented soul AND a perpetraror, both things can be true if you allow youself to think a bit deeper about the themes this game gives you. And Bhaalspawn have a higher chance of doing murder but that doesn't mean the chances are that high or that's their true nature, because the blood of Bhaal curses through their veins makes them commit acts they disappove of, very much like people who have intrusive thoughts and find their thoughts repulsive or morally wrong (but in the case of Bhaalspawn the intrusive thoughts are so strong they act on them). It's crazy how one of the main narratives of this game is how nobody is tied to their blooline and you completely ignore it in favor of a simplistic narrative that is "being born inherently evil" LOL

Well Orin has her nuance. She's a tool that wants to be greater. Bhaal has no love for his children and they're born from blood and not through any earnest lineage. She does love Sarevok as a grandfather but he doesn't care for her as she must die so he can be Bhaalschosen. She's like the Dark Urge but instead of amnesia and a party that wants you to reject the Urge, her entire family embraced it so hard they killed one another. Plus her being a chosen of bhaal is just innately more intimate than Myrkul or Bane because murder is an intimate thing.

She was never the orchestrator of the Absolute plot she is too impulsive for it. She barely holds herself together when making rash decisions and only does so because Sarevok wills it. With full intention of killing her later for the title of Chosen. Myrkul preys on the weak of heart, and Bane preys upon the prideful and arrogant. But Bhaal just takes with no regard for anything.

Dragon hide, scales, steel for reinforced boots, there are some made from the weaves of magic with spells. Plastic soles also exist. I've seen the Djiins of the fire plane wearing brass shoes in the city of brass, and boots of flying in the plane of air. So, a lot of materials.

On one hand, it is meta to know what happens during the finale of act 3. At the same time, what they did to Gortash was far worse than what he did to them. It's honestly a difficult question for a good aligned character to ask and would ultimately be up to them. I know my follower of Bahamut would slay them and have them be judged by Kelemvor. While my urchin would just walk away, seeing it as a fitting punishment for creating a tyrant.

Apparently a lot of plot details and such was scrapped for Act 3, and I think Gortash was involved in many of them. It is probably why Karlach, deeply involved with Gortash' story, does not have a happy ending most of the time, and that he is the only representative of his death god whereas the other two had other followers, or were possessed or given bigger power-ups by them. Compared to the two of them, his background is left alone a lot. It would not surprise me if there was supposed to be a story about the warlock somewhere, but that it was taken away. It still works, in particular in the current political climate in various countries, that Gortash is in most ways just a hateful powerhungry tyrant, and one can just assume that he took a lot of power and lessons from the warlock that he used now. I myself did not feel like I missed anything from him, even if it would have been nice to have more since I loved the evil trio and their scheming the most.

@@hallowtide93 Oh, sorry, if I gave out some spoilers! To be fair, I actually found Gortash and Orin's stories to be very good, but that might be more to do with how it worked in my character's favour, rather than anything else, I cannot say. I liked how Gortash and his actions feel a tad more, I wouldn't say realistic, but that it feels closer to home due to how politicians and propaganda in certain countries have acted lately, so even if we never learned more, I am happy with what we got. But yes, while I liked Act 3 over Act 2 if only due to aesthetics, I do feel it was overall weaker even if I liked it a lot.

@@Penamesolen no worries about spoilers haha, I’m actively looking for things to do in ACT 3 that’ll draw it out. I’m basically going to do everything remotely possible before I have to get to the ending. From what I’ve seen it’s very intriguing, and the Urge does get into things a little more deeply, but I am still kinda curious what they binned.

In all fairness, he put a complete stop to The Emperor, who was controlling a cities council member and had running a cult worshipping the God of betrayal and political corruption.
