Talisman Alliances: Fate Beckons | Contents Revealed for First Talisman Expansion from Avalon Hill

Ойындар

Always Board Never Boring spotted that preorders are now live for the first expansion for Talisman Fifth Edition from Avalon Hill. In this video he takes a closer look at the components that have been revealed and shares some of his early thoughts.
Please note: On further consideration ABNB believes (at least most of) the new adventure cards will be "Trial Events" depicting the evil druid and indicating the doom counter should advance one space. In this way, the players will never know exactly when the doom tracker will advance as the trigger events will be pulled from the adventure deck.

I saw talisman in a games shop when I was a lot younger - I didn't buy it and always wondered what the gameplay would be like. I bought the steam version and after playing for about 6 hours with no end in sight I wondered if the board game was the same. The new 5th edition looks good and this expansion has got me interested in it again. Maybe one day I will buy it to add to my vast collection of games. We will see :) Thanks for the video as always Kev. Take care mate.

Thanks for watching. Talisman really is a lot of fun, but is really at its best when you have a group of players around the table who enjoy racing, pushing their luck, and screwing with each other.

I'm really interested in 5E. I like the idea of a Doom Tracker, and the art is excellent. Hoping to get some extra Talisman dice after release. I would like a set for each player as we do sometimes get 6 players on game nights. Thanks for the video. Cheers

Generally you only need one dice per player. Occasionally you roll two or three. The warrior always rolls two in combat. But for the most part, being able to give each player one dice would be useful. Of course, you can raid your D6 box, but it just isn't the same, is it?

This looks promising. I too like Talisman as a competitive silly romp, but like I mentioned in your last video most of my board gaming these days is 1 or 2 players. And all my Talisman 4th ed collected dust once my regular group disbanded and I decided to part with it. For a group of people especially those who don't play board game Talisman is easy to teach and play, and this edition looks really nice. So the potential to have a good 2 player variant could be worth it.

It looks like it could be well thought out. Enemy NPCs could be an interesting addition to regular games too.

Looks good to me. Funnily enough at Game Expo a couple of weeks ago I bought a copy of Talisman 3rd edition and then saw that Talisman 5th edition was on sale too. I’m really happy with my 3rd edition purchase but this new one looks different enough to be a future purchase.

Was that in the bring and buy part? I saw a copy of Magic Realm in there but just couldn’t justify the cost.

@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring No It was from a seller in hall 1 who had quite a few retro games and things. I spotted it towards the end of the day. From the Bring and Buy I got a copy of Middle Earth Quest and Fury of Dracula both Fantasy Flight games. So I had a good time.

@@jameswhitehouse5706 Nice finds. I have Middle-earth Quest and I love it. I used to have FFG's edition of Fury of Dracula but it never got played so I sold it. I do intend to pick up the original at some point.

Really exited about this! A fresh and new take on Talisman with co-op play. Count me in. I think this could also be a good entry to Talisman for my younger kid. I think the standard way of playing Talisman is still to brutal for him at the moment. So co-op could be the softer introduction.

I think you may be right there. For younger gamers, having your stuff stolen or getting stabbed in the back by other players can be rough, so this will definitely put a fresh spin on it. I'm still not entirely sure it's going to work for me, but I would be more than happy to find out it's a blast, and I am more than prepared to give it a good go to find out!

I’m thinking the same thing. My kids are young and hate losing. I find co-op games the best way to play with them.

there is co-op play in 4th ed blood moon expansion with the alternative ending lightbearers

Yes, but that is one alternative ending, predominantly using the same mechanisms in an otherwise competitive expansion. This is a whole co-op expansion, built around that idea.

    Doesn't 4ed Bloodmoon have a co op scenario/ending?

  • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring

    @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring

    22 күн бұрын

As I understand it, there is one alternative ending in Blood Moon where the characters can work together, simply not attacking each other and sharing a win if the objective is met; but for the most part it's still a versus expansion. Fate Beckons appears to be built from the ground up to be an entirely co-op campaign - the whole expansion is geared towards it rather than one optional ending. It appears to be adding a lot of mechanisms specifically for that purpose and is the first "true" all co-op expansion for the game.

As a solo board gamer I love this. The fact it could've been included in the core, as it obviously was ready at the same time, annoys me. I am pleased that it's not a true 'legacy game, but a 'green legacy' (resetable) one.

I know where you're coming from, but it's pretty common for ready or almost-ready expansions to be partitioned off though. And I would say it does make sense to separate off a brand new way of playing the game, especially when it has sealed boxes and envelopes which would muddy the "clean" core set with new ideas and would necessitate a much bigger and more expensive core box.
