TIME STAMPS: 2:29 -- Talib starts things by naming off his personal favorites from Dom's catalog. They go on to discuss Dom's strengths for songwriting, where his style evolved from, the straightforward and efficient approach to his pen game, how he balances his lyrics depicting a life of indulgence while still keeping a conscious tone, his goal of trying to illustrate the full spectrum of hood life in the good along with the bad, and the biggest star on his belt being that he is his mother's favorite rapper. 9:39 -- Dom speaks of his appreciation for rapper/actor Krondon of the group Strong Arm Steady who he's worked on numerous projects with. Jasmin goes on to ask Dom how his upbringing in Leimert Park, Los Angeles impacted and influenced him as an artist. They also discuss what he learned that helped his career after majoring in business management and business law, as well as linking up with his cousin Jason Madison to put out Dom's debut mixtape album '25th Hour' in 2008. 18:04 -- Dom is asked to explain the importance of visuals in the world of music. He speaks on how his cousin Jason attending film school would end up being a key element to their strategy for success, how his 'From The Westside With Love' series of records represent him as an artist and his community of LA, teaching his son how to appreciate things in life, his affection for Earle's On Crenshaw being a staple in his community, as well as creating his own OpM clothing and merch line. 27:37 -- Dom breaks down what he meant when he penned "if I was from New York I would be the Brooklyn type". They also talk about Dom's earlier days of running around with Rick Ross as well as how he met him, why he thinks his song 'My Type Of Party' was so well received in 2012 and how it fit into the lineup of 'Yellow Album', and he outlines what made him take inspiration from the cult classic film 'The Warriors' for his album 'Get Home Safely'. 39:01 -- Dom is asked for his views on the reasonable and acceptable ways, as well as the problematic ways his community has changed due to gentrification. They go on to discuss the homeless situation in LA worsening while home prices skyrocket, how important understanding the hood codes are to safe passage and Dom explains why he chose to remain independent even after receiving an offer from Interscope records back in 2013. 52:58 -- Dom is asked to walk us through the creation of 'Double Up' on Nipsey Hussle's 'Victory Lap'. He goes on to detail on his close friendship with Nip, their seamless chemistry and mutual respect while working together, being Nip's hype man at shows and what it was like in the booth when they recorded their collab. Dom is asked about his impression of Nip upon meeting him for the first time and Dom speaks on seeing the living example in Nip of what he wanted to accomplish himself. 1:01:23 -- Dom speaks on when The Game first got in contact with him for a feature on 'Born 2 Rap'. They go on to discuss Dom being told the album couldn't be finished without him and The Game having 80 to 90 songs recorded for the album when Dom came on, that had reached 250 by the time it was completed. Dom also gets into his respect and admiration for rapper/producer Hit-boy, Dom's focusing on the making of 'From The Westside With Love III', and he states what he wants his legacy to look like.

Dom Kennedy has over 10+ projects in the game. All of em are fire. Man is a living legend.
I just appreciate how much Talib and Jasmin allowed Dom to fully speak on everything they talked about. It felt like Dom just been waiting for the right place and opportunity to say and share a lot of the shit he was saying. I know he talked about saying a lot with the least amount of words, but this felt like one of those spaces where he can fully articulate the meaning of "don't withhold the knowledge that you acquire". He definitely always carried himself to be just that... and it was good to hear him speak on a lot of the things that needed to really be heard as far as knowing yourself and how to navigate certain experiences as a creative

Great interview. I love how Talib interview people and actually listen and allows the artist to give their answer and doesn't cut them off. I always heard about Dom but just started listening to him and wish I got into him way earlier.

Dom the type of person who makes timeless music. So some days I’ll be going through some emotion or another and all of a sudden a lyric that I can relate too from dom pops up in my head and I’m like “damn where I hear that song” or “what song was that” turns out to be one of his songs I’ve only heard once before then I will get stuck in that song for a few weeks. It’s not his delivery or beats in particular but the fact that everything he say is so real and true that it touches everybody in different ways. That’s what I call a real people person. This is by far my fav interview of you bro.
