Daly is leaving out the best part. During the Crown Heights Riots (which Al Sharpton had a big hand in fermenting) Jimmy Breslin was mugged by three kids aged 14, 14 and 11 who relieved him of his wallet and his trousers, leaving Breslin to trudge to the precinct house in his drawers, much to the amusement of the cops on duty there. Breslin hated the cops, firemen, construction workers and blue collar white ethnic New York in general, but he especially hated the Irish Catholics in the city. He never had anything good to say about them or their culture and he would never fail to malign his own people just to ingratiate himself to the lefties on the Upper West Side or to the literary crowd in Greenwich Village. It's like the old quote from J.M. Synge: "Put an Irishman on a spit and you can always find another Irishman to turn it." Jimmy Breslin never got tired of turning that spit to thunderous applause from the limousine liberals of the city.

I miss how things used to be when the world made sense. Some one looks at you the wrong way you can crack them in the head . Now people talk shit and call the cops or video tape you.

In the context of a "remember the good old days" nostalgia piece, a line like "Kardashian was a guy who sold you rugs" comes across like "if only we could go back to when we didn't have to hear from anyone with names that sound like that." Yuk.
