Tales of a Trapline Ep. 2 - Deer Hunting & Marten Trapping
In this second installment of the 2022/2023 trapping series I stay busy focusing on filling my deer tag. I also make my first run of the marten loop. When it comes to hunting and trapping there are no guarantees but persistence plays a huge part in ones success.

awesome video wow big like
It's a silly detail, but I love seeing your little bird friend hanging around with you.
Thank You for another great video. Keep em coming.
There's always a next time Ryley 👍
Cant wait to see you snare uo some wolves. Other critters are always good to see. Wolves and Wolverines sre the ultimate prize in my opinion. Thanks for sharing
Love it
Thanks Ryley for sharing this with us. 🤙
Enjoy the skinning of the furs. Would enjoy seeing more techniques and how to's on that kind of stuff. Great videos.
You got some good bucks in the night cam. Just got to coax them into the freezer. I really enjoyed this episode. Not easy to boot hunt those bucks or freeze your bones in a tree stand. Thanks for sharing the adventure!
Great video my friend
Great video, as always! Thank you
Sorry to see you didn't get a deer. Good luck with the trapping.
Keeping it real!!! I started hunting with my husband a year ago and have had deer fever and No deer ! Oh well I am going for the meat now ! Keep up the great videos
You gave it a hearty try! Nice video my Friend. Take care
Great video...thanks for taking us along. Always nice to see the landscape you are able to hunt/camp.
Looking forward to the next chapter of the trapping season
Riley, a suggestion if I may. Try rattling and grunt calling every 15-20 mins. I started doing just that about 20 yrs. Ago and I have found it to greatly increase the amount of game compared to hunting without those tools in my arsenal. Thankyou for you hard work on creating your vids.

I agree on the rattling. On a calm cold morning Riley should try rattling. The bucks can hear that sound from 300 yards away and will come in to investigate. They’ll usually circle to try to get downwind of the sound. If they hang up try the can call.

I didn't do much calling this year. I thought being quiet and waiting all day would lead to success. Next year I will certainly call more. Thanks for the tips! Take care.
Beautiful country. Good luck with snaring.
Pretty weasel. Put the effort in for the deer.
Another great video Riley. I can completely relate to all the effort that goes into finding what we all hope will be a prime spot for bagging a deer, the endless waiting game, the feeling of disappointment that can creep in and the thoughts bouncing around in your head like “should I move or stay put?”. All part of the magic of deer hunting and the very thing that keeps drawing us back. Makes the successes all the more special, if it were easy what would be the point?!?! 👍

Yea the pursuit of game always brings me back. Quite an amazing feeling when you're finally successful too. Thanks for watching!
some quality time in the bush, you tried, all ya can do , cheers
Awesome video! Cheers from Newfoundland!
Well bummer, maybe next year haha! I didn't have any luck this year either. Best of luck!
Great video 👍⛺️🦌
There's always next year for deer and now you have the entire rest of the season to concentrate on the trap line. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Very true! Thank you for watching. Merry Christmas to you too!
I feel your pain Brutha. Hunted hard this year but no deer and no elk. I did manage to bag a couple antelope early on. So that takes the sting out a bit.
Try makin dinner outta some of the critters ya catch in the Trapline bud and maybe a sub par deer will look better to ya in the crosshairs and in the fry pan.

Very true!
Would love to know what your plans are for the marten furs. Thanks for this video, that was a nice segment with the PIP zoom in and your barrel in shot. Its an added difficulty trying to get the shot on camera too.
You better not hurt that 4 wheeler.

No sir! I'm being extremely careful with it.

I think you have to help yourself out with deer hunting for next year by harvesting some of those wolves!! Question: At 3 pm on that final day, if a nice sized doe would have popped out on that trail, would you have taken her? Nice vid as always. I'm hoping you can get a few lynx this year.

I'm not sure if I would have shot a doe. I would've shot a small buck for sure. Hoping to get a few wolves and lynx this season. I'll certainly try my best. Thanks for watching!

@@KuskWild I deer hunted for about 40 years and never shot a doe. Just a "thing" but now, when it comes to "for food" - I probably would. times are tough
When you are hunting for grouse you see deer. When you are hunting for deer you see grouse. Wish those old Savages with a deer cartridge and a 20 gauge were still made. Then I'd get nothing.
Thank you for the video. Can't wait to see your trapping content for this year's season!!!
What do you do with those small hides of weasels and squirels?
Great videos. How long is the loop?
Questions: you say Fresh Wolf Tracks, then correct yourself that they're from a couple days ago. How does one know how fresh the tracks are? When you hunt in the snow, have you tried using the cadence of other animals so that when they hear you it sounds less like man and more like other animals? I've never hunted but I've heard of this idea from pretty successful hunters.
Why is it out in the open when you can sit in that big log behind you so you have some cover behind you to break up your silhouette
In this video at 8:20… was that an owl?

That was a grey jay.
Why aren't you hunting over that gigantic scrape?
@KuskWild

I sat over a few scrapes. Didn't see any deer during the day. Seems most scrapes are tended to in the night.
What's wrong with the honda. Those old ones will run 4 ever.

Needs a few parts replaced. Hoping it will last a few more years.
Stop hunting antlers and hunt meat. Nothing wrong with young deer. Other than that I enjoy your videos. Keep on keeping on.

Yup, one of these years I'll learn. Once I'm fed up with having an empty freezer haha. Thanks for watching. Take care.
I appreciate the outdoors and the animals in the video, but you need to put in more of the hunting and trapping, not just talking.
