This was great Michael (and Sprouht). I had a summer job a few years ago that allowed me to visit virtually every convenience store on the island, and I remember on my first trip to Robinsons I got out of the car to pet a goat on the side of the road and then followed it for 20 minutes in suit and tie to one of those coastal meadows, gave him a few of my baby carrots, what a spot. Looking forward to the rest of the series fellas!

He was forced to retire when the CNR was shut down and it ruined him. All he wanted to do was work. Love to Pop and Nanny Taylor up above us. 15:07 WHOA.... I thought i had done a pretty crazy job restoring the original wooden LÉVIS train station sign, white paint with the beveled corners painted black and the original black paint lettering (took me 2 months, with a teeny tiny paintbrush so as not to alter the original hand-painted shape of the letters) - you can see a similar sign on Jasper's station still, and they used to be all over Canada... The Lévis one i recuperated when the station closed in 1998, and after restoring it, i screwed it on top of the wall in my studio in Lévis. But the whale skeleton??? That another level. Captain Dave is really a badass!!! 👍

The old Newfoundland joke about the speed of the Newfie Bullet train was that a young woman gets on the train in Port aux Basque and starts talking to her seat mate. She reveals that she is headed to the hospital in St John's because she is due to give birth. Her seat mate looks at her and says "you don't look pregnant" and she replies "aye by, but I'll be full term by the time we makes it to St Johns". Love Newfoundland. Our old cabin has damaged bathroom fixtures that were cracked during one of the trains many blow overs in the notorious Wreckhouse area of the Codroy Valley, so named because of the high winds that blow in off the gulf and caused the train to wreck many times!

I loved this! Thank you. One of greatest adventures of my life was a trip in a small plane, from San Francisco, northwest to St. John's. After the pilot's class reunion in Detroit, and a visit with some of his family, we stopped for refueling in Montreal and Charlottetown. (As an Anne of Green Gables enthusiast, when I was small, I was in HEAVEN on PEI ... so beautiful!) The flight over the Newfoundland island was fascinating. From the air, much/most of it appears to be a gigantic dense forest. I imagined everything I ever heard about magic fairy tales that took place in a forest, happening down there. The forestation is so dense that small planes can't readily look for potential emergency landing areas, which was my job as "navigator." However, when a flight plan is filed with Air Traffic Control, in Gander, they make contact with the planes - every 20 minutes, or so - to be sure that everything is OK. Now, I have some clue as to what's really down there. I loved the visit to St. John's. We didn't get to Dildo (I'd have remembered the name), but we visited Petty Harbor, to see the workings of the cod-fishing industry. We enjoyed a lot of fish-'n-chips, as you said. We also had deep fried cod tongues. Lobster, too. On the way home, before dipping south of the border, we stayed in Quebec City ... great French cooking! Then worked our way back to SF. 'm going to love this series!

I cried watching this. I moved to live with my then boyfriend in a town nearish Grand Falls-Windsor. They forced me to move back to Ontario after we had a fire in our apartment and his mom didn't want to keep me there. I'm suffering from PTSD from everything my ex put me through, and that translates to having trauma about the island/whole province of Newfoundland and Labrador. This also extends to the Maritimes as well. I continued watching not only because you're presentation style is so interesting and attention grabbing, but as a sort of exposure therapy. I returned to Ontario back in March, and we broke up fully after 3 months of torturous back and forth. He told me he cared about himself more and that's the last time I heard his voice. He got a new girlfriend 2 or 3 days later and they're still together now. He never loved me and it still rips me apart. I still have belongings held hostage by his mother who refuses to mail them to me and I've had several plans to retrieve them fall through for health and financial reasons. I need to go back to the island to get my things and close that chapter of my life. I need to go there to dissociate the island from him, because it is a beautiful land with lovely people. I need to make the experience one that is my own. One that I can cherish forever. But until then, I suffer everytime I see or hear the word Newfoundland. I cry whenever I see a piece of labradorite. Newfoundland dogs and Labrador retrievers make me tear up. Coming across people or watching videos or shows with Newfoundland actors freezes me in place. I can't enjoy life right now because somehow the Island is everywhere. I cannot escape it, so by watching this video, I'm choosing to embrace the tears and the sadness. Today I saw a quote from a Facebook group based in Newfoundland (I was reading an article about AI photos of birds of all things! The photo discussed was posted to this group so I took a peek at the group). The quote said: "Let your tears of 2023 water the seeds you plant in 2024". And how fitting is it that such a quote comes from the place that has given me so many tears over this last year?

This is such a thrilling adventure! About a month ago I began making my reservations for a month-long road trip from Chicago near my home to Saint-Pierre and back. There are so many exciting experiences to be had, and this video has gotten me even more excited.

Saint-Pierre is so lovely! you can walk the entire island in a day its so tiny! Make sure to drop into George Street when you get here to Newfoundland. I believe it has the most bars on one street in North America, and its where he got screeched in, called Christian's pub

I will never forget when 9-11 was happening in America my parents were vacationing in Canada, air travel was shut down and my mom and dad were not allowed to reenter America , mom and dad said that the Canadian people were so hospitable and kind to them, 21 years later I still remember the love Canada extended to my parents, God bless Canada and her people 🇨🇦🇺🇸

Great video. A couple of notes, 1 Toutons are typically made from bread dough and fried. Yes typically eaten with molasses, but some prefer them with pancake syrup. 2. The railway here was a narrow gauge system, and couldnt accommodate the mainland cars without an axle change.

Sure, I'm from the US, but being hockey player, I've always felt connected to Canada. Spent a lot of time there at training camps/goalie schools. I love Canada and have some great stories from a couple of Provinces. I would love to have the money and time to make this trip. Once coming back from Edmonton with my goalie bag they asked me "Are you one of the Fleury boys." I said no but they still gave me a wink and gave me expedited process through customs. So awesome.

Glad you got to go to Newfoundland 😊 The Newfoundland hospitality is second to none, always making sure you never go hungry. I hope you remembered to get some Gravol, for motion sickness. Sometimes if you’re travelling on the Cabot Strait, the ocean waves can be choppy.

A couple years ago my wife and I went from Halifax to Vancouver by VIA rail. We had a sleeper from Halifax to Montreal. Stayed overnight. And the next day got Business class to Toronto. And that evening we had Prestige Class from Toronto to Vancouver. Prestige Class is VIA's top-of-the-line sleeper Suite. Larger room, Queen sized bed for two, your own bathroom and shower. And all the bar service you can drink. Meals (great meals) are included in all sleeper accomodations.
